MH Box Opening: Frights, Camera, Action Operetta

Tonight was late night shopping and on a whim, I decided to drag the hubby out for sushi and a bit of retail therapy as it's been a pretty emotional week for the both of us with some bad news at the beginning of the week.

I was specifically looking for some Sims 3 expansion packs as they're selling them dirt cheap at Big W and Target and figured I might as well pop down to the Monster High aisle to see what was there. I wasn't expecting much as the last few times, they've had hardly anything. But to my surprise, one of the dolls I wanted was there. I was super excited as I had seen people trying to sell her for a pretty penny on ebay because she was apparently "rare".

Long story short, I managed to grab her. I think the make up for these dolls can be really hit and miss but Frights, Camera, Action Operetta and Dead Tired Ghoulia are among the two defaults that I don't actually mind. Even hubby was surprised when he picked up Frights, Camera, Action Draculara and compared it to one of the First Wave Draculara. The make up was wildly different, more bold on First Wave and more subtle and quite lovely actually on the Frights, Camera, Action version.

Enough of my bleating and on to the box opening. To usher us in, the Monster High theme song which I quite like I have to admit.

Theme Song: Fright Song

Here she is, minty fresh in her unopened box with all her little accessories. Sadly, there was no DVD so I assume this meant she is the version from the DVD.

Without that pesky plastic cover to obscure her gorgeousness. I think what attracts me about this particular model is that she has this very retro/vintage feel to her look and style which I am loving quite a lot. And that hair is all sorts of lovely. If I was a braver woman, I would dye my hair like that.

Oh my gosh, getting this girl out of her packaging seemed to take forever. She was pretty dang secure nestled in there with bits and pieces holding her and her accessories in place. And tags in weird places (like the one in her head). So strange. Her hair as it turned out was a lot softer than I expected. I thought it'd be this greasy stiff thing but nope, it felt so lovely and soft.

Her outfit looks nice but I am not a fan of the material. I think I will have to figure out what I will make her. At least I have her default dress as a sample for size and she doesn't have to be naked while I play around with fabric.

Overall, I am incredibly happy with her and feel kind of lucky that I was even able to get her.

It's actually quite funny that I got her tonight as earlier today, I had ordered Dot Dead Gorgeous Operetta which I am having sent to Tin Ink Studio for some custom work. I actually got to see this model in person at Target tonight and I am kind of glad I did decide on a custom face up for that model as I wasn't so fussed on her make up.

What can I say? I love being a collector.

  1. Oh I love MH dolls! I don't really have any, I really want to customize them so I have two girls who are skeletons and a few shoes I like for when I get them finished (or started ha)....but I love looking at them. Congrats on finding her! She's pretty cool!

    1. I actually have had a fascination with them for a while now but got my first one (custom) a while back and really fell in love with the size, weight and feel of them. But this particular model caught my eye because of how she was styled with that rockabilly retro vibe going on about her. Then I found out she was apparently the daughter of the Phantom of the Opera (one of my favourite musicals) and that kind of sealed the deal.

If you intend to customise them yourself, you can get the nude dolls on ebay secondhand for pretty cheap. I have seen quite a few being offered in your part of the world. I didn't opt for that myself because the shipping was always more expensive than the doll!!

You should check out flickr. There are some amazing photos of these dolls on there. That's how I was able to decide Operetta and Ghoulia were my favourites thanks to all the owner photos I managed to find (of which there are plenty, both of custom MH and default MH dolls.)

I would love to see you do a custom MH doll. I think they would turn out fantastic. I've seen some of the other work you've done and I've always loved that skull one you did on one of your resin boys (wasn't it an Alex sculpt? Everytime I see that sculpt now, I call it the Alex sculpt). That still blows me away.

    1. I really was not expecting to see her in the department store. The range we have here is pretty limited and it's so rare to see Operetta or even Ghoulia here. So yeah, pretty stoked. I think I will have fun with what I am going to try and make her. Getting inspiration from the 50s and 60s.

  3. Ahh she's lovely! I love the retro style they've given her and you're right, the default makeup is really nice too.

    1. I think a lot of the Frights Camera Action models have a different style of make up than their usual counterparts. They're not too bad. I also like the make up on the Dead Tired series - they seem a bit more toned down which is nice.

I can imagine her in a lot of 50s style dresses with those poofy skirts. Red, Black and White seem to be her colours so that will be interesting to play around with.

  4. She's a really gorgeous Operetta! How exciting that you found her. Retail therapy is always a good thing. Did you end up getting the Sims 3 expansions as well?

    1. I really love this version of Operetta. I am glad I got it. I even like her make up so that was a bonus.

The only expansion I didn't have was Island Paradise and University. They were selling them for $16.00 each which was amazing. I rarely see the expansions go for such a low price but maybe it's because Sims 4 is being released this year?

I almost bought them. Almost. I ummed and ahhed about it for a while but decided to put them back because I wasn't sure how much I would play those expansions before Sims 4 comes out. Plus I am still playing the Into the Future expansion at the moment. I am still trying to get a dystopian future to happen.

I will say, I am going to miss the weather when Sims 4 is released and I really hope they make that the first expansion. Weather is one of my favourite elements in the Sims.
