Why do I collect dolls?
This question has been swirling in my mind recently and I've come to the conclusion that it is because there is beauty in them. In a world that can often be filled with so much bad things, it is nice to have something around that reminds us that not everything in this world is bad or corrupted. Some might argue that dolls are materialistic in nature but to me, they represent dreams, ideas, inspiration.
When I look at my dolls, I see an imagined world in which they get to be the heroes of their own story. And that is not such a bad thing.
Why do you collect dolls?
Agreed, they're the physical embodiment of ideas for me. :)
ReplyDeleteI think that's what makes them the most attractive, at least to me.
DeleteThey're an extension of my art, I have too, I have no choice.
ReplyDeleteI actually mean that, because when I started this whole comic-thing I also started customizing action figures at the same time. I failed miserably at that...it was too hard to find figures that matched my characters. And they're teeny. I'm better at dolls. It gives me my action figure fix and having the dolls is the closest I'm ever going to get to having my characters alive and in front of me.
That's the great thing about dolls, especially these ones. They do make great shells for characters. Physical shells I should say. Most of my characters were always done in the Sims game. So it's nice to have something tangible.
DeleteOooh, I like this questions, and this month has been so busy I almost missed it!
ReplyDeleteDolls are absolutely little vehicles for stories and creativity, but they're also a way for me to keep the concept of "play" alive. I think so many adults get so wrapped up in being "ADULTS" and just take life waaaaay too seriously in general, that they forget the magic of play.
It's why I started the Adventurers Club too, I want to encourage that "play" in other people. :) Of course, then the very adult job of promoting the club and getting it out there more is something I really need to step up and do more of, LOL.
You've hit the nail on the head there. We do get wrapped up and told quite often we need to be adults the older we get and it's nice to be reminded every now and then that there is still that inner child and it hasn't completely been squashed by the every day need to be more grown up about things.
DeleteThe Adventurers Club is very inspiring for me because it does encourage me to take that time out that is often needed to just let your hair down and be a kid again and play.
I've not been around much either lately but that's more to do with picking up old hobbies again than anything else.
