I've been wanting to take photos of him since he arrived back home on Saturday but haven't had the chance. It has been a seriously crazy weekend here.
I had sent him off to an Australian face up artist with the request to make him have a rather pale, subtle face up. I really love how he turned out. I already think his features are perfect so I wanted something that enhanced those blank features. I didn't want anything too strong or overpowering for his face. I also wanted to show a slight feeling of fragility.
Dollshe Saint has been my all time grail doll since I officially joined the hobby a few years back. There was just something so grumpy about his face that appealed (because I have found I am drawn more to grumpy sculpts than anything else). So when I was able to make him "whole" (I bought his head/face plates second hand but his body direct from Dollshe), it was a happy day. And I was just lucky that both head and body were made in the same year and only about three months apart so it was a perfect match. Technically my "first" Saint was just a fresh skin head I bought from a friend and I think that head had had its eyes modded. It had a gorgeous face up by xhanthi which I loved but I ended up selling that head as I preferred the oriental resin to the fresh resin.
The "second" Saint head came with both OE and SA face plates and was sold by someone here in Australia so there wasn't a massive wait and the postage cost was cheaper! Then Dollshe went and had that massive sale when they were going to discontinue their old sculpts and bodies and it just seemed like the planets had all aligned. And Josef could finally become a more tangible character than he was in my head. The fresh skin head had a different name, Alric, who I later wrote in as Josef's twin that died in a freak accident.
This character and doll feel like it has been years in the making and I am pretty giddy that he is finally completed (even if he only has one fullset outfit right now).
EDIT: I just visited Dollshe's website and discovered this announcement from November 2014. I am really glad now that I ordered when I did but I had been hoping to maybe get an Orijean at some stage from them. Bummer. At least the two years they are working on new sculpts for those lines means I can save up!
He's really beautiful, Hun.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Good to see you still about the interwebs!
DeleteHe's wonderful! I'd say the faceup really brings out the qualities you were looking for. :D
ReplyDeleteI'm really glad those qualities came across! It's always nice when a doll is complete.
DeleteHe's very handsome!! I need to take pictures of my Saint sometime soon too, since I'll probably re do his face up next year again for the third time XD I just can't get it right with him, but Saints look gorgeous no matter what and your is very very nice!
ReplyDeleteWhen I started this hobby I hated dollshe sculpts, I thought they were the ugliest thing on earth, but now I love all of their sculpts XD It's something that has happened me a lot, the sculpts I love the most were one the ugliest in my eyes.
If only I could have gotten a Husky as well x.x....
Oh yes, please do take photos of your Saint. I'd love to see him.
DeleteThis hobby does tend to change your mind the longer you are in it! I used to think Luts sculpts were all too similar to each other and largely ignored them for a long time. I think it's only been in the past 2-3 years that I've fallen in love with Luts sculpts and after buying one, I find that I like their aesthetics quite a bit. So yeah, I understand where you're coming from there.
But, I also think it's a great thing about the hobby that it can change us over the course of our stay.
I'm not usually into boy doll that much, but I think he looks fab. I like that he looks a little grumpy and not effeminate like some of the other boy dolls I've seen.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
X
His grumpiness is definitely the draw for me. I can extract so much expression out of that grumpiness. Honestly, I seem to have more boys than girl dolls. That was mostly due to me being incredibly fussy when it comes to girl sculpts though. I rarely find many I actually like enough to own. I like seeing what other people do with certain girl sculpts that I like but I can never picture myself owning those sculpts. If that even remotely makes any sort of sense.
DeleteI can relate to that, it all makes great sense. I probably lean more towards girls because I enjoy sewing for them more, but now I'm knitting, the boys are beginning to come into their own a little more. I love my grumpy little DZ Choco.
DeleteHe's wonderful! There's nothing quite like when the stars line up and everything falls (almost) effortlessly into place! :) I think you really nailed "fragile" for him - and found a talented faceup artist. ;)
ReplyDeleteHis face was painted by Chizzie_Shark. She did a fantastic job on him. I am glad that fragile aspect came across really well.
DeleteThe stars don't always line up so it's great when it does happen!
