I've been fascinated by the Yuki-Onna ever since I first read Clamp's Shirahime Syo manga. I have wanted to re-create her in doll form for a while now but could never really settle on the perfect sculpt until I decided to revamp MyDolling Heeah. The idea to use this sculpt came from this photo of her I posted on my flickr as The Snow Queen. (She was definitely my favourite character from Narnia.)
She photographs quite pale and although she isn't exact (no blue lips), I still think she fits the part perfectly, especially when I came across the white outfit from Dollmore. That sort of clinched it for me.
It never ever snows in my part of the world so I had to make do with some fake snow courtesy of carocha's snow brush. I can visualize a particularly fierce snow storm, a hapless mortal fighting their way through it alone and then ... the soft sound of a woman's voice singing an eerie lullaby. Entranced, the mortal follows the sound ... to his/her death.
Oh wow! She's absolutely gorgeous!! I'm facinated of the Yuki-Onna too (and many other japanese folklores) and I think you managed to create her perfectly with this doll! ^w^
ReplyDeleteThank you, I am glad that I was able to make her as close to my version of this mystical being as I could.
DeleteAlasse I think your interpretation of the Yuki Onna is perfect and the gown looks absolutely wonderful on her. I really love this doll's face, it's exquisite.

Thank you! I've been itching to have a doll represent the Yuki onna for a while now. I am glad though I didn't go with the SD size that I had originally imagined for the character. MyDolling Heeah is such a beautiful doll. I love everything about this doll, her face sculpt, her body sculpt and she has the most beautiful hands of any doll I own.
DeleteShe's super gorgeous, I love your vision of the Yuki Onna~
ReplyDeleteAnd absolutely love the first pic *u*
Thank you! I'm just glad she turned out as I imagined. Maybe that's why I have always felt a bit lost when it came to her character because she was always meant to be this one!
Deleteooh she's really prefect for this! The sculpt even has that look about her that some of those drawings have. And then you styled her so beautifully!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am glad the Yuki oona came through so clearly with her. I'm truthfully quite excited I was able to make this particular creature happen.
DeleteThis story is amazing - love ancient Japanese horror stories. She's looks perfect for this part too!
ReplyDeleteI'm not usually a fan of horror but this story really captures my imagination. I love reading about all the various versions of the Yuki Onna that are out there. I don't know if you're familiar with the Sims game but a talented machinima director created a sim version of one of the most popular versions of the story here.
