From what I gather, the regular Freak du Chic line came out first. Then Mattel released Freak du Chic Noir which had a more dark circus theme and consisted of (so far) two dolls, Clawdeen Wolf and Twyla. The interesting thing is, Clawdeen is normally released in brown skin but for this particular release, she has grey skin and I think coupled with that gorgeous purple/black hair (she has two black strips on the underside), it works a treat.
Firstly, we have her card and gorgeous character design artwork. I love how enthusiastic she looks here.
The full length view of her on her stand. I am really loving the clothing design she came with quite a bit. Her bolero is fake fur.
More details of what she came with. The hat is quite cute and comes on a headband. Her make up is really striking and is one of the reasons I really like this face. She also comes with a necklace (plastic) and her hands are gloved (painted) to the elbow. The fingers have long claw-like nails. Her boots have gorgeous lace-up detail on the front.
I actually washed and combed her hair and it looks a lot neater now and doesn't look so dry.
She also came with this cute companion.
I really like this doll. There's a lot going on but it's all good in my eyes. I love her expression and the colour scheme. I'm glad I got her.

Yesterday I ended up getting yet another MH doll (special sale) and the only other vinyl MH doll that I liked.
This time it was the Haunted Series Draculaura. I've been procrastinating on this doll since she came into stock at Target and Big W about a month or two ago. What drew me was the make up. It was different than other MH dolls I had seen previously and in my opinion was a lot softer. Plus, pink hair, a heart on her cheek and that masked blushing over the eyes ...enough said.
Her packaging is typical MH box. I do love the artwork of her on the back though.
First thing I should mention about this doll is that unlike her regular versions, Draculaura in the Haunted line has a much more translucent pink skin which I really like. Her stand is very different from the regular MH stands. I love that it looks like a cross gravestone sitting on someone's grave. The main body of the stand is made to look like chains entwining upwards. The material is also translucent.
Her brush (also translucent) is quite cute and has the MH logo. Her shoes are detailed to look like chains going around the shoes and keeping it on. Her bracelet is some weird thing that I have no idea what it is.
I also discovered upon washing out the styling product in her hair that she has elf ears. I'm not really fussed on the plastic chain that is part of her outfit. If anything, I would replace that with real chains cause then it'd make that chain noise whenever she moves.
And her make up. As I said, I love the way this is done. It is a lot softer and more subtle which goes so nicely with the translucent skin. I did notice that some of the Haunted Draculaura's eye mask blushing was actually darker than others. I chose one that was more subtle and not so bold.
I suspected I would eventually add this girl to my growing MH collection. She's just so mysterious.
Draculaura's vinyl doll version is so colourful, much like Ghoulia's which is why I think they are really the only two I liked in this line.
Her packaging is pretty much the same as Ghoulia's except with her character.
I love the expression on this one and how one knee is bent upwards in a "jump for joy" sort of mood.
That is probably going to be the MH purchases for now although if I can find those MH lego style scenes again, I might end up grabbing one of them.
Also, found out apparently if you live in the USA, Walmart has an exclusive 28 inch MH doll (twins I think). That's the size of an SD or thereabouts!! Yikes! I found a Youtube video reviewing these dolls.
Ahh, I so love MH dollies - especially customized ones! Their designs are always so unique and they seem very versatile! Draculaura is gorgeous and I've been tempted to try MH dollies but I fear I can't paint on such a tiny scale! Hahaha :D
ReplyDeleteApparently they have both MSD and SD sized MH dolls now :-) Although I'm not sure how well in person the character faces would translate to bigger sizes. I have to admit, I do prefer them in the smaller size.
DeleteOh there are some stunning customs out there. So many talented artists in that community.
You have great taste, or at least similar to mina because I adored both MH dolls you picked this time! That's the prettiest Clawdeen I've seen!
ReplyDeleteThose particular faces really called out to me, plus, Werewolf and Vampire, how can you go wrong with that? I'm pretty picky with the MH dolls I buy - running out of display space!
