The Hodgepodge Post

There's been a few things I've wanted to post about but didn't really want to make a separate post for each of them so I decided to plonk them all down in a hodgepodge post.

I'm still not really one hundred percent on board with Isabelle's wig. She has got to be one of the hardest dolls for me to find a decent wig for. Although I like the colour of both of the Luts wigs I ordered for her, the pink wig is a little thin at the front so you can see the white wig cap beneath in photos and the blue/purple wig is gorgeous but it sits on her head a bit weird.

So I'm still not sure what kind of wig she'll have in the end.

This is the latest photo I have of her in a medieval dress (which also happens to be my favourite.) I can't help but think she might be a Princess here, maybe a past life? Could work plus it means this wig is only associated with her past life incarnation. That's one way for her to wear a wide selection of wigs right?

Yet another Monster High doll purchase although this will be probably be the last one for a while unless the toy stores here happen to have Scarnival Draculaura or Saritage Operetta.

I had seen this girl when I purchased Twyla and Lagoona but I wanted to think on her for a couple of weeks. I've wanted a Rochelle Goyle in my collection for a while but like Lagoona, I was particular about which version of her I wanted. So last Friday, I figured I would go to Toyworld and if she was still there at the sale price, then I'd get her and if she wasn't then that solved that issue.

She was there and still at the sale price so she came home with me.

She is the daughter of The Gargoyle, which gargoyle is anyone's guess. I had wanted her because she really reminded me of an old cartoon (Gargoyles) I used to watch back in the 90s, that and well, she looks like cotton candy and that's always a good thing.

She is the Ghoul's Night Out edition.

Out of the box. She comes with a brush and stand.

Her dress comes with an arm warmer and cute little scarf. It's a simple one piece with pink details in shiny leather-like material. Her wings are detachable with fine detailing. Her hands are clawlike. Her shoes are a silver and pink number with the fleur de lis symbol. Her handbag also has the same symbol and does open. Her face screening is gorgeous with pink tones and subtle pink glitter eyeshadow. I love the colour of her hair. It's one of my favourite things about her.

She is such a colourful doll. I used to not like pink very much but I've been really digging the colour recently. Besides, at least one of my bjds has pink hair as well.

I love the stone marbling on this doll. It's different and very gargoyle-like. I love these tiny little details that MH put on their dolls.

While I was at Toyworld picking up the MH doll, I decided to browse through the Lego section not really expecting to find anything and was surprised and kind of excited to find they had the Ghostbusters Lego. This particular lego, along with Back to the Future are really hard to find on shelves here and the only way to get your hands on one is through ebay or an online store that sells them. And online prices are quite high for these. I managed to get this one for $20 less than the majority of the online prices.

I actually bought it on the spot because there was only 2 left and I didn't want to miss out. I gave it to hubby to give to me for Christmas but he said I could open it early. I think he wanted to help me build it and had been asking when we would be opening it.

I finally did open it on Tuesday and it took us 4hrs but we managed to get it put together.

First are the Ghostbusters themselves. Don't they look adorable in lego form?

The show piece, the car. Boy, was this one complicated lego to put together. There were so many pieces, so many! I am not used to the number of pieces this required to be put together. I can't even imagine how many pieces the new Doctor Who lego being released on 1st December will have!

I'm glad hubby wanted to help me put this together. It was well worth it. Fingers crossed Toyworld get the Back to the Future one in. Apparently when I asked at the counter, a few people had been asking for it so they might just get it in.

And finally, I wanted to share some links I came across whilst browsing. These might be of use to someone so I'll post them here. They all center around toy photography.

  1. That Rochelle is one of my favorite MH dolls, my girlfriend has it as well :) I love her style and the accessories she comes with. Great that you managed to get her for the sale price!

Legos are really fun, I used to play with them a lot when I was a kid! I haven't looked much into them nowadays, but I've seen some people use Legos to create great props and even complete rooms for their smaller dolls :)

Thanks for posting those toy photography links! I enjoy browsing for such tips too, I feel like you could never have too much info on photography~

    1. She just looks so perfect and so colourful. It definitely is one of the reasons I am so drawn to the MH dolls.

Oh wow, really? I'd love to see what people do with the Lego for their dolls. That would be so interesting. I tend to be pretty particular about what sort of Lego I buy so it tends to be things like Ghostbusters, Doctor Who, Big Bang and Back to the Future.

No problems at all. I also learned a few things from those links myself. Although the vaseline on the lens, my concern would be how to get it all completely off the lens afterwards!

  2. Omg those Ghostbuster Legos!!! I want them so bad. Both my cats are named for the GBs XD
It's really depressing how many people don't realize that.
Many props for the lego assemblage! I do not have the patience for that - I never did. It's cool to see them all together!

Aw I loved the gargoyles cartoon when I was a kid!! It was one of my favorites (along with everything else - cartoons were best in the 90's)! She does kind of look like an updated version of a character who could be in that show.

Wigs. I have to say one of my biggest pet peeves in this whole BJD hobby is wigs thin enough to see cap through. I have that issue with almost every past LW wig I've bought, and it usually makes me dislike the wig on site. I do like the look of the blue on her, it goes with her faceup wonderfully.

    1. Honestly, I didn't even remember the names of the Ghostbusters myself until I got this Lego set. I remember the big marshmellow thing (incidentally, hubby is going as that for his annual work Christmas Party. The theme this year is 80s movies.) It's been ages since I've watched the movie. Might do that this weekend. My one vivid memory is of hiding behind the cushion in that library scene where the ghost goes all "Arrrr" on them.

I'm just glad hubby helped me with this lego set. I would have got a bit frustrated with some of the parts.

I agree. They don't make cartoons like they used to. I loved Gargoyles and watched it all the time when I was younger. That and Smurfs and dare I say it? She-Ra.

Normally, I've found Luts wigs have been quite good but it's just this one pink bob wig that I recently purchased and it's the first time I've seen this on a Luts wig. I've had a pink Luts wig before in a different style and it hasn't had that issue so I don't know what's going on. I might see what other pink wigs they have. But yeah, I want to try and make that blue wig work for Isabelle.

    2. Lol Ghostbusters terrified me as a kid. My parents dragged me to the theater to see it and the refrigerator scene is what scared me to death. You should watch it! And 2. Not as good, but still great in that culty way.

Omg She-Ra was awesome. I loved everything He-Man....still haven't forgiven my mom for selling all those action figures without telling me when I was a kid. They were great. I miss Voltron and Gi-Joe too. *sigh* all the goodies.

  3. You got the Ghostbusters lego!! super awesome :D!!!!

Rochelle is very pretty, love her skin and the hands :D!! and the hair of course because it has pink X) I'm not familiar with the gargoyle cartoons but I had a videogame in my gameboy called Gargoyle's Quest. Dunno if they are related though

I hate having trouble with the right wig for a doll, it tends to make me hate the doll in the end when too many tries fail. One thing about wigs though is that it's super easy to re sell them in my local community so I can buy more options if needed :) Love the blue wig though, too bad you don't like the fit that much, I think the color suits her! and it matches her eyes :D

    1. I was so excited when I saw it at the toy store. I think I'll be beside myself if they end up stocking the new Doctor Who lego set. I've been so looking forward to that one as it's the Tardis.

Are they still releasing Gameboys? I haven't heard mention of that console in ages. I can't remember if I ever had one as a kid. Not familiar with that game but it could be by the name of it. I've lost track of how many handheld consoles there are these days. I only have the Nintendo 3DS and the original Nintendo DS. Hubby has the Playstation Vita.

I don't know what it is about pink hair but I've really started liking dolls with that colour lately.

I sometimes have got that way with dolls when I have wig troubles with them myself. I do really love this colour and style on her so I might try playing around with it a bit and see if I can try and make it work for her. I love colourful wigs and it's really so soft too.

    2. Hehe no, they don't make gameboys anymore, but I still have mine! though the screen is kinda screwed up now Dx......... so I don't play it
I still use my psp and my DS lite, but I don't have the newer ones (vita and 3DS). I haven't bought a videogame console in ages!

I used to have pink hair when I was younger, though it was more magenta than pastel pink. I need a doll that can wear pink, all shades hehe :D

  4. Wow I love Rochelle's design xD the details on her bag and shoes are so cool~ and pink is the awesomest color! Aahaha~
That ghostbusters lego is sooo cool! I was reminded of my own legos when I was young so I asked my mom and found out recently my mom gave all my childhood lego away to my niece and nephews! haha :D

Thank you for the links, those are very helpful to any one who likes toys/dolls!

    1. What is that saying? Pink is the new orange or something? I probably got that completely wrong!

Ah what a shame your mum gave your lego away. On the plus side, good excuse to get new lego :-) I'm finding that I really enjoy putting them together. It's relaxing most of the time except when I can't tell a black piece from a grey piece because the way they are coloured and drawn in the instruction book is very similar!

Happy to help! There are some pretty interesting tips in those that I think I might try myself.

  5. I have trouble with wig caps showing on a lot of light coloured wigs. It's such a pain! How does she look in the pink colour? Luts have one of my favourite shades of pink wigs.

Rochelle looks so interesting! I really like the amount of variety in these Monster High dolls. It's quite impressive!
Also, I think I can remember that cartoon, Gargoyles, a little.

The Ghostbusters Lego is too cool. I love the little figures. They did really well with the faces! Kinda want to watch Ghostbusters now... Was there no Slimer with the set?

    1. She actually looks quite good but I have it on Rune right now and I love it on her. I might still get another pink wig from Luts and see what that's like.

Yeah I do love how colourful MH dolls are and then when you get a bunch of them, it's even better. I get all giddy when I see them all in my cabinet, like a rainbow they are.

You know, that's exactly what I said! Where is Slimer? Sadly, there was no Slimer. There's also a lego set of the Ghostbusters base of operations but that one is really really rare and hard to get your hands on. Why do I always get into these things after they've been long released??
