It's a boy's life

Random photos of the Pureneemo and MSD boys.

We kick off with Loki and Ansel. I forgot to take a photo of Cyril so sadly, he misses out on this post. Ansel (the one with the glasses) is a new boy. I bought him from my friend at our last meet. He is the Detective Boys II Aoto with dark brown hair and green eyes.

Initially, I had bought Ansel to replace Loki (my Alice's Tea Party Aoto) but once I photographed them together and stuck the glasses on Ansel, I decided these two make perfect twins. I will dress Ansel a little more formally when I can decide what I want for him. It seems Azone aren't big on releasing clothing for the XS boys sadly.

Next up are my three MSD boys, Charlie, Jamal and Vincent. I'm still largely trying to figure out Jamal's character so he is a work in progress. I got his new wig from my friend and it's perfect for what I wanted for him.

Charlie and Vincent's story kind of wrote itself back when I had a strong vision of Charlie waking up beside some train tracks with no memory but his name and a strange tugging that leads him to a library in the small town of Thornton's Gap and Vincent. A conversation follows between the two of them in which Vincent realises that he's actually not talking to a living person but a ghost. That's when Vincent finally, truly believes everything his grandmother had told him about their family's heritage and responsibility.

I have a specific outfit in mind for Charlie but I just haven't been able to get it yet. Maybe one day. At the moment, he's rocking a temporary look.

And then there's Jamal. The only BJD I purchased this year (from my friend). I have to admit, I do freak out a little whenever I have him out because this particular tan colour and doll in this colour is no longer made so I'm always aware that if he gets broken, I'm pretty much stuck for replacement parts. This is also why he tends to sit in the display cabinet quite a bit and you don't really see as many photos of him. I'm careful with all my dolls but special care is taken for this one.

He's really quite beautiful and this wig really finishes off the way I saw him in my head.

And just an extra one because I just couldn't help myself.

I decided this is the younger version of the older Jamal I once owned. It's been a while now and most people wouldn't have seen the story of the older Jamal (this is going a few years back now). When I first introduce the older Jamal, he's a broken man who has been taken in by a woman called Najara. He's trying to turn his life around but escaping his past is proving much harder than he thought. It would be interesting to see how he was before this period of his life happened.

**Najara was an RS Chun and Older Jamal was an RS Gang. I no longer own these dolls but snapped these photos for this excerpt in 2011.

They're at a stand-off, neither of them wanting to give in.

"I can't save you if you don't want to be saved." Najara says bluntly. She's been patient these past few months, never asking questions, never wanting explanations for why he comes home with blood on his shirt or bruises on his face. She doesn't mention that he wakes the house with his screams or that she's caught him sleepwalking, a gun in his hands and a snarl on his face.

Today she knows it's time. It's been three days since his return from whatever place he disappeared to. His nightmares are worse than they've ever been. This time, he has come close to causing harm, right here, in her domain.

"I know you weren't aware that it was Zeke. You were dreaming, that's all. But it's time to tell me what's going on. Time to help you and maybe stop these nightmares and the sleepwalking."

"Maybe it's time for me to move on." Jamal says instead, avoiding her eyes.
She stiffles an exasperated sigh. "That's not what I'm saying and you know it. You don't always have to be alone in the world Jamal. I know you think you do, I know you believe it's some punishment meted out by the Divine but it's not."

He remains silent, unmoving. Even his eyes hold no clues to what he's thinking.

He's like a dead man walking. She thinks to herself.

She reaches out and makes contact with his hands. He flinches and begins to pull away.
"Don't." she says gently. "It isn't going to hurt you. It's just hands, touching. See." she turns over his hands. A flickr of pain crosses his face.
"You saw her again didn't you?"
He lets out a shaky breath. "I needed to be near her."
"It's not healthy for you to go to her grave so much."
"She was my everything. And because of me, she's dead."

"Stop blaming yourself for everything. The universe isn't out to get you."
She glances at the half empty beer can in his hand.
"Don't drown your sorrows too much. You can come to me for anything Jamal." she rises and walks back inside feeling his eyes on her.

  1. littlegreythings? I love it when people I know online hang out. I love it and I'm also jealous! Anyway Young Jamal is a perfect young Jamal! And as usual I just love how you style your dolls. Charlie doesn't even look like a KDF (which is a compliment).

The photo-illustrated story is so much fun, thank you for posting!

    1. Hehe, her dolls are very recognisable aren't they? I'm rather sad though as she's moving to another state soon. There aren't a lot of people in my town who are into these hobbies sadly.

Thank you. I clicked on the idea when I was going through those old photos of Jamal and Najara. Why not I figured. My KDF is my only Luts doll and I have to admit, I like how easy he is to pose. And he does photograph quite well.

It makes me miss writing. I haven't done it in a while. Although I continue to have a lot of ideas for stories which I continue to record in my notebook.

  2. It might be just as well that I'm moving... you seem to come home with new dolls from me every time you're over lately. XD But, man, I'm going to miss having doll days with you when I go.
I love Ansel in those glasses!! Funny you chose him to wear them, as I think I bought them for him in the first place.
And omg, I loooove the photo of your three boys! Is Charlie the one you tried the sparkly eyes in? Did you change your mind about them? I love the idea of Oscar eyes, but hardly any of my dolls wear them. It's been a while since I got to see Charlie... you think you might have room to bring him for the next meet? And seeing Vincent... I'm so sure he and Jamie (my little Williams) would get on like a house on fire. ;)
Love the wig on Jamal, although I already knew he'd look perfect in it. :P And how nice to see Najara and big!Jamal! I had forgotten all about your pretty Chun.

    1. I'm going to miss our get togethers too. And I never mind bringing new dolls home from you. Or new figures :-) The doll days have been really fun and relaxing for me and the highpoint of a very rough year. I'll still hound you for photos though after you move. I love to see your collection.

Ansel just has that look about him that screams, "Give me glasses". He is so cute. I adore him and he's definitely made me love my other Aoto more too.

Yep, Charlie is the one I tried the Oscar eyes on. I took some photos of him wearing them but the eyes came out a bit weird in the photos which is a shame. I just couldn't get the eyes to work in the photos but I'll bring him and the eyes along and show you. I might have to bring Vincent too but maybe for the January meet. I'll see how many bags I'll have! So far, I have two bags set aside for the dolls alone and one bag for other stuff.

Jamal looks perfect with that wig. It's exactly the style I was trying to hunt for. There were a few longish type wigs at Luts but not exactly like that so that worked out so well.

Seeing Najara and Big Jamal made me a little nostalgic for these dolls. But their bodies both drove me a little insane. Big Jamal's knees were always a bit problematic for me, same with Najara even though I did suede her. I don't think I will ever purchase the sculpt again though because I liked those specific ones with those face ups so they wouldn't be the same dolls.

    1. It is confusing as I wrote that snippet back in 2011 when I took those photos even though they are going to be the future version of Jamal. Yeah, I confused myself just then.

I didn't know either for a while but they do make the Pureneemo boys although I have only seen the XS ones. I don't recall ever seeing ones on the M body. And I think there are only two as far as I know, Aoto and Yuka. They seem to release them in different versions a lot.

Oh yes, Jamal, (both of them) have such gorgeous skin colour. It reminds me of dark chocolate.

  4. All your boys are cute! Jamal's color is soo gorgeous @o@ I understand your caution around this rare guy!
I love the story snippets you've shared, especially the one about someone not realizing they are a ghost is a very interesting one to me~

    1. He's the first doll I have that is like that so I am kind of a little freaked when I have him out but I'm extra careful with him so it's fine. If I ever take him for a photo op outdoors, I think I will try and get a stand so he doesn't fall or anything and just edit out the stand. Rather be safe than sorry!

I actually have the narrative version of that story, the ghost and Vincent somewhere on my computer. I actually wrote it out one day during a morning tea break at work. The whole scene just came to me at that moment and I went with it. I love when that happens.
