Christmas Dolls and A Hunt Begins...

An overdue photo batch from Christmas of the dollies that made it to the Wayward Inn, mostly unscathed. I've already posted about the Misaki doll so I won't cover her today.

I'll start with the new Koron girl that I got from my friend who I have named Rina.

She's either a bear or co-ordinate Koron. She has the brown eyes and hair, very different from my blue eyed, blonde hair Koron. I love her to bits. I really think Koron and Chiika may be my favourite face molds from the Pureneemo line.

I also got a bunch of Pop Vinyl dolls for Christmas. I suspect I may see some Ghostbusters ones for my birthday as they weren't in this batch and those were on my wishlist along with a Sherlock one.

Finally got the Potter gang, Hermione, Harry and Ron. I wish Ron had freckles though but oh well.

And of course, I can't get the core Potter gang without getting their arch enemy Severus Snape, who I love. He may have been a villain but I still say he was misunderstood. Plus I'm a fan of the actor.

Who can forget Marty McFly "Nobody calls me chicken." My Back to the Future core group is complete!

My Eleven Doctors Micro-Figure set. I haven't decided if I will unbox these or not. But they are great little Lego style figures.

My two new ghouls, Spectra Vondergeist and Elissabat.

I am not a huge fan of that pink eyeshadow for her but that's okay as I'll most likely have her repainted sometime this year. She did come with plastic chains over her dress which I removed and she's not pictured in them here. Her shoes are silver and made of chains which is pretty neat.

She's from the Haunted line so has the translucent skin and comes with a stand and a brush.

I've always thought the face screening on this character doll doesn't really match the character from the webisodes. Spectra is a bit more perky, sometimes a little ditzy but can also be intelligent. Her face screening makes me think she's always grumpy which she isn't at all.

Ghoul Fair Elissabat has a substantial red streak in her gorgeous purple hair. I really love the combination and find it quite striking. She comes in a simple dress with detailed red boots. She also came with a balloon game accessory that she can't really hold without it being strapped to her wrist with a clear band or something. (Wouldn't it be nice if MH had different hands?) She didn't come with a stand or brush.

There are rumours that Mattel are planning to reboot the face sculpts and bodies of the MH line. From leaked images, I have to admit, I'm not too impressed if they go ahead with that style. The  girls look a lot younger with big round eyes, almost anime-like rather than the teens they are meant to be. They are also rumoured to possibly be concentrating on the core group which is Frankie, Clawdeen, Draculaura and Cleo so who knows what will happen to the other characters like Ghoulia! On the plus side, at least I'll be saving money for other things as I won't be buying the reboots.

I've also been thinking a lot about getting Rune a friend. After re-organising the cabinet to fit everyone in I managed to squeeze in enough room for another yo-sd size doll should I want one. So that got me thinking more seriously about Rune's friend.

It's been a long time since I actively looked for a bjd sculpt that I want to add to the wishlist (the real one where I actually purchase the dolls eventually). There are so many choices for that size now and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed although there is no rush as it will take me most of the year to save up for one anyway.

I mucked around on gen8's Chibi Maker again and came up with a draft image for her.

Right now, I have two names for her I am debating over, Raen or Seren. She's a very perky character, very optimistic and always looks on the bright side of things. I'm thinking cutesy style clothing for her with a bit of punk here and there to jazz it up some. It's only a rough concept at this point.

To finish off this super long post, one last photo of the new ghouls.

Spectra: I feel kind of cheated, don't you?
Elissabat: Why do you say that?
Spectra: We got a pretty flimsy introduction compared to the other ghouls.
Elissabat: Well, it was the holidays and things were kind of busy. It happens. At least we got an introduction!
Spectra: I guess you're right. We could have been forgotten!
Elissabat: Not possible. We're way too unforgettable.

  1. Great new dollies <3 That is one of my favorite versions of Koron, she looks so cute with brown hair and eyes ^^ I believe I have the same as your other Koron (the one with caramel hair and blue eyes) and she's indeed quite different compared to this one, but both are adorable~

I was planning to ask you if you've heard about the MH dolls possibly going through some changes and how you feel about them, but you already covered that in this post! Seems like many people who collect MH dolls are not happy with the changes, while I had not much interest in them before, but love the new looks... I think the new versions would look more like the characters in the animation and art too. It's a shame though that the new style possibly doesn't look nice to those who have previously collected them :/

    1. That's the word I was looking for! Caramel. I couldn't think of the word for that Koron's hair colour other than blonde. Thanks for that!

I think it all comes down to aesthetics with the MH dolls. The current collectors were drawn to that particular style, that sassy, more mature look to the dolls. With Mattel heading towards a more younger, innocent look, it's lost the appeal to the current collectors. They're ... less attitude I guess is the word I am looking for. I'll be interested to see how they compare in reality to the images we are seeing leaked all over the place right now.

I have heard some disturbing rumours that the new body sculpts will most likely lose articulation in the elbows making the arm one piece so no elbow bend, wrist movement or able to lift the arms out, only up and down. If they did head this way, I would be a bit confused as to why. Their posing for such a small scale doll is one of their main attractions but if they are targeting a younger audience, I guess I could understand the change with how loose the elbow hinge joints can get and how easy kids would lose the current hands. But it seems crazy as even Barbie have released a model with hinge joints for better posing.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did bring in new collectors with the revamped dolls with the newer aesthetics to be honest.

Although I have noticed, particularly in recent episodes that they have been making changes to the characters in the animation. Particularly noticeable with Draculaura. I remember this because I did a double take and thought she looked different from the earlier episodes. And even then, I was a little unsure about the change up to the character.

I guess we'll see what happens when they are released to stores and I'm curious enough that I'll check them out when they do.

  2. Hi Alasse,
The girls are all lovely, but I find the Pop Vinyls a little strange with their somewhat square heads, even though they are kinda cute.

Didn't know you were a fan of Alan Rickman, me too, he's one of my favourite British actors along with Colin Firth and Bill Nighy. The first movie I saw him in was Die Hard, loved him in Sense and Sensibility, as the sherrif in Robin Hood, and seeing all three in Love Actually was a real bonus. :)

Hope you are feeling better today.
    Hugs,
    X

    1. The Pop Vinyls are definitely one of those dolls that won't appeal to everyone. I love them because they remind of me Coraline and I loved that character design. It's the button-esque eyes.

Oh yeah, I love Alan Rickman, he has this presence that he brings to all his roles which I love. It's the same reason I like Colin Firth as well. No matter what roles he plays, he has this very gentleman aura about him. I reckon he'd be great as James Bond! Or even Sherlock. Although I gotta admit, Benedict Cumberbatch in the TV series Sherlock is pretty dang good in that role. Oh my gosh, just a thought - Colin Firth as one of the Doctors in Doctor Who. Now that I would love to see.

I actually have that movie Love Actually. I should watch it again.

Thanks for the wishes Xanadu. I am feeling much better after the New Year Day fiasco!

  3. Lovely dolls and figures! I'm impressed with the Harry Potter gang, so cute!!

Your Koron is very pretty, I like her a lot! And the MH girls are very nice~

Do you plan on repainting many of your mh or only that Spectra? I saw some photos of the new MH faces and bodies with no articulations because people was sharing those like mad on facebook lol
The faces I didn't mind much, though these ones are way nicer for a more broad audience while the others only work for kids I think, since they are more childish. I hope they don't eliminate articulations on the body for their dolls though, what's the point of that? less tiny pieces for little kids to lose/swallow maybe? Maybe it's just a line targeted to younger audiences :o though I haven't read a thing

I love YoSDs so for me it would be awesome if you get another XD hope you decide to go for it :D

    1. Aren't they so cute? They even have a Hagrid Pop Vinyl but he's a lot bigger and so is his price tag!

It would probably send me broke if I were to get all the MH girls repainted but I have to admit that I do like the face screening on most of the defaults I have but definitely that Spectra at least. I don't really have plans to repaint any of the other girls I have. Although, I'd love to see what my face up artist would do for Cleo. So she may get a repaint ... I haven't decided on her yet. I'd love to see how she would look with a more colourful face up.

The internet has exploded with the MH reboot news. So many current collectors definitely aren't happy about it. But you are right when you say the new faces do seem more childish and I really do believe they are aiming it at the younger audience. I don't think Mattel realises how big their adult collectors actually are with this line. But I guess if you can repaint faces, the reboots won't be too much of an issue. But yeah, the articulation disappearing would be a bad move and wouldn't make a lot of sense although would make sense if they want kids to buy them. Kids can sometimes be quite rough with their toys. Heck, I chopped up my Peaches 'n' Cream Barbie hair into an absolute mess when I was a kid! Not my greatest moment ...

I'm still gonna be curious enough to have a peek at them in the shops. I also heard the packaging is changing too so a big change all around. Honestly though, I think it would be a good thing for me so I can spend my money on other lines! But I think I pretty much have most of the MH girls I want now anyway so I probably wouldn't buy newer releases either way.

Peakswood dolls don't tend to be limited are they? I have my eye on one of their Yo-sd sculpts right now. I like the aesthetics of their bodies and faces.

    2. PW usually releases limited dolls for special skin colors like blue grey and tan, but their yoSD line (fairies of fairytales) are always available in normal and white skin :)

  4. Ahh, so many lovely new arrivals! I especially love your MH girls, the colors are just wonderful on them, and I'd love to see some of them re-painted as well!

Is it bad that I like the new MH style? Haha, it seems many people hated it but I thought it looked rather cute ^^; reminded me of some of the re-paints I'd seen before ~

    1. Not bad at all. Everyone has different tastes. But you are right, they did kind of remind me too of some of the customs I have seen around with those big round eyes. Maybe Mattel saw the trend and thought it a good idea to cash in on?

I think the new MH dolls will definitely bring in a new audience which is good for Mattel but I also think they may lose some of their audience as well but that's business for you. Sometimes a change can work well and sometimes it won't.

2016 will most likely be a year of Pureneemo dolls for me though as I'm just about at max. capacity for the MH line in my cabinet. I have a custom one planned using one of those Edit heads so should be interesting.

  5. Love all these pictures, and the dialogue at the end made me giggle. :)

Koron is a 2014 Coordinate model, which, if I understand correctly, means that she is the same version as the Bear Koron, just in a different outfit. I think the Coordinates are only sold at Azone stores? Not really sure.
I'm really happy you like her, though! <3

The PopVinyl dolls are great! They're like super basic Nendoroids, or something, lol.

I adore your new MH Spectra doll. Her skin is so neato! I look forward to seeing what you do with her when you get her repainted. Are you planning to send her to Ticuk?

And, can I just say... DarkElfSooDarkElfSooDarkElfSoo! (not that I'm biased for CP dolls or anything... lol)

    1. Hehe, I felt kinda bad that it was a bit of a rush job introducing the two new MH girls. I'm sure I'll make it up to them one day!

Ah thanks for clarifying that. I forgot to ask you that day! I can go and fix up her profile now. She is just too adorable. This is why I love my Azones, they are my cute adorable dolls.

I'll have to show you them when you come over. I have a growing collection. There are a few more I want to get before I am done.

Yep, I plan to send her to Ticuk. She did such an amazing job on those other two MH girls ... I'm still pinching myself!

Hehehe, she is quite the adorable sculpt but you know me and FL dolls. I hate restringing them. I'm probably just going to keep my options open until I have the cash on hand to buy.
