I'm hoping to get a post out tomorrow or on the weekend on the Obitsu 48cm posing but today, I'm going to talk about my re-rooting projects and some more lovely things for Eve I got in the mail today.
I got the gorgeous skirts for Eve from Studio 1283. Aren't they just lovely. I also got some nice surprises including a gorgeous ribbon that I can't wait to use to make some SD chokers. Thank you Xanadu!
My FMD order came in.
These are the hair colours I will be using for re-root. I also ordered some cute little hair clips and got the mirror as a gift from FMD.
The hair is lovely, soft and silky, however they are hard to re-root with as they are slippery. Maybe good to use for those hard caps that you glue hair to rather than re-rooting but I was determined to try anyway.
My Pureneemo girl, Freya gets her hair removed. This took me an hour and a half. Then I removed the black paint on her head and repainted with a complementary colour for the new hair. I then began the slow method of re-rooting using the knot method and a doll needle (those are the long doll needles you can usually find at your local sewing store).
I found my thumb got sore after pushing the needle through the tiny holes and read that some people used pliers to pull the needle through the other end - helps save mangling the poor fingers!
What you see here is around 4-5 hours total of re-rooting (spread over two days!). It's slow going. I work with wet hair as I find it's much easier to knot and doesn't tangle. It's a very slow process. I think this will take a few weeks to do. The yarn may go quicker as I only have to do every second plug rather than every plug. We'll see.
{ I just noticed, the pinky colour kind of looks purple here. Must be the light! }
Random photo of my bowl of heads.
Picked up one of those thread holder contraptions yesterday to put my heads on. It works a treat!
The blonde Barbie you can see at the top is all shiny because I was experimenting with brushing on Liquitex Matte Medium. So far, it comes out a bit shiny and is still tacky even after two days of "drying". I really can't see the brush strokes but I'll take a photo with my Macro filter later.
The big female head down the bottom I will be spraying with Liquitex Matte Medium with my airbrush to see the difference.
I also got a blank Obitsu head (the one with rooted pink hair) that I'll paint and will put on my M size Pureneemo spare body.
That's it for the WIP projects. The face ups are slow going. I'm having an issue with making the eyes symmetrical, especially when using acrylic to paint the eyes! Will soldier on though. It's all practice.
Gotta love FMD for always sending those cute hairclips as a gift! Love the colors of the fibers and looks like your rerooting project is going well :) It sounds (and looks) like a lot of work!
ReplyDeleteFMD actually sent the mirror as a gift. The hairclips I purchased along with the hair. They were so cute, it was hard to resist.
DeleteRerooting is slow ... at least the method I am using anyway. I just set up in front of the tv and put on a comedy series to watch as I reroot. Makes the time go by a lot faster!
Love the hair colours - I'm looking forward to seeing the finished heads!
ReplyDeleteAnd the thread/head holder is too funny - it makes me think of a medieval castle's decapitation display, warning the masses: "Behave or you will be beheaded!" ;)
I just wish the hair itself was easier to handle! It's nice quality but boy is it slippery. I'm not sure what it is, not Saran I don't think.
DeleteFunny you should say that, it's exactly what hubby said when he saw it set up on the table where I work. He was looking at the currently still assembled MH and EAH girl I have on their stands and wondering when their heads will end up on there.
The rerooting is looking awesome!! I also received one of their mirror as a gift in my last purchase, though I would have prefered some hair clips XD but it's still a nice detail ~
ReplyDeleteLove the way you have your heads arranged, you are super busy with dolls lately, I love it!
Thanks! It's going slowly but the knot method seems to be the slowest method. Trust me to pick that one to start with!
DeleteI will get another hair clip from them when I order my Obitsu girls' hair. I just love how cute they are. Although not sure if I will use the mirror. Maybe I will embed it into a frame and turn it into a mirror for the dolls.
It seems that way doesn't it! Everything is going slowly though. I think I kind of messed up one of the heads I was painting acrylic on and I can't easily fix it without removing the sealant as well. Which is probably why watercolour pencils might be the way to go ... for the time being.
Oh my god, wonderful gallery of heads! XDDDD
ReplyDeleteRerooting seems like a tough job but it will finally be worth it ~! :D
You're making so much progress! Keep it up!
The heads were kind of overtaking the table so I figured I better get something to put them all on! I do love it as a display stand. Although won't work for Resin heads unless they're tiny!
DeleteI hope rerooting her will be worth it. Sometimes I doubt but I am sure it'll all be good when it gets done. It's just getting to the finish line that is crawling at a snail's pace right now.
