BJD Meme: Company vs Crew

I've been seeing this meme going around on IG and decided to do one for my own crew. It's amazing as I didn't realise I had quite so many dolls! I've made the company photos a little duller to distinguish between those and my own photos of the sculpts for my crew.

NOTE: Links for companies referenced are at the end of the post for the curious.

...and yet another Meme. This one I saw on Fantasywoods IG and decided it would be fun to do.

1. See the Company vs Crew photo montage.
2. Newest to my collection would have to be Jamal, Minifee El who I bought from my good friend, littlegreythings back in August 2015. Incidentally, I have not bought any bjds since.
3. Oldest in my collection would have to be Geraint, Dollzone Cosmo even though he's just a floating head. I bought him in 2010 and he was the second 'bjd' I ever bought.
4. I honestly don't really have one. I go where the sculpts that call to me are regardless of the company that makes them.
5. I don't like to name this company but it was one of the first I dealt with when I was relatively still new to the hobby. The sculpts are quite lovely but the customer service I received was what turned me off the company. So you could say they are my least favourite solely because of the bad customer service and for no other reason.
6. I've only ever had one true grail and that was Dollshe Saint. I own him and those that have read my blog already know the story of how that came about. I got lucky and I'll always be thankful for that. I have no regrets even if his rhythmos body is not exactly poser of the year.
7.  Eye shapes. I seem to be drawn to a certain style. I also love really detailed sculpted hands.
8. The world around me, the big moments, the little moments, the experiences I've had in my lifetime. Music is also a great inspiration. I often hear something and an entire story can unfold in my head. This is one of the reasons I have theme songs a lot when it comes to stories and characters. Music is a great motivator and for me, very evocative.
9. The oodles of creativity that comes from this hobby, from the companies with their designs and concepts to the owners and their wild imaginations. I am also thankful for the friends I have made through this hobby, the gorgeous people I've come into contact with who are always so inspiring and encouraging.
10. I'm sad to see Recasts in this hobby. We're already seeing its effects on the second-hand market and on the doll companies. Also the judgemental nature of some people outside of the hobby particularly against adults who collect dolls. I'm sad many of us have had to experience this first hand.

I can never resist my favourite Chibi generator over at deviantART and decided to do some of the Tiny crew. I haven't been really sure about them recently (the 16cm tinies) but whilst I was doing up the Company vs Crew photos, I was looking at the defaults of the Pukifee and AQ girl and the default company photos reminded me of why I bought these girls in the first place. I saw something in these sculpts that I loved and it was a good reminder and gave me a kick of inspiration for them.

From left to right: Inera (AQ 16 Jesse) | Merida (FL PKF Mio) | Rune (Bimong Chuu) | Yana (? Sculpt not yet decided).

After crunching some numbers, I realised that I could afford to buy another BJD at the end of August as long as I don't get any more integrity toys fashion dolls (those girls are pricey). I've definitely decided on a Yo-SD. These four girls will be part of a story called "Avatars".

Yana is the 'human' of the crew. She's a bit of a nerd, loves her books and video games and is an ace of both. She has a big imagination and prefers to keep to herself. She's not socially awkward, she just doesn't have that much of an interest in people. Books and games are her "friends". Her parents are thinking of making her see a psychologist as they feel her lack of social interaction means there's something wrong with her which drives Yana deeper into her books and games. She inadvertently picks up a game called Avatars which is trending big time right now. There's rumours of a secret level if you're good enough to beat the game which of course, she is. What she doesn't realise is that secret level is inside the game itself, one she gets sucked into. There she meets the Avatars she herself has created for the game and together, they set out to find a way to release Yana.

That's pretty much the premise of my concept for the Tiny crew. Next step will be starting to gather together the look and style for each of the dolls. Their style is a hint to their abilities and powers within the game world. I've even been thinking of catch phrases they say when they power up.

I love games, I love cute characters, why not combine them and the Tiny crew are so perfect for these characters because they're all so cute and adorable and they can get away with cute outfits and cheesy catch phrases!

The contenders for Yana right now are Bluefairy Shiny Fairy Sam or Andy (haven't decided between them) or Peakswood FOF Rabbit Goon or Fox Goon (as girls). Both companies have sculpts that can work as either gender which is fantastic.

Off to procrastinate more.

  1. All the tags in one post, how great!!!! Seeing your entire crew in one photo I realize it's quite big!!! love them all of course :D!!

Just like you in answer 7, I tend to go for nice eyes, though the mouth plays a huge role as well~

Love the idea for your tinies too, there's so many RPGS with the chibi style so I don't think you will find hard to make them look like videogames characters :)
I love both PW and Bluefairy, but I think Fox Goon is my favorite out of those 4 sculpts~ but I think all of those would look really nice as girls!

Hope you have a great week~

    1. I was really shocked at how big my crew was. Even with all the culling I did, there are so many of them!! Although technically Cosmo is a floating head so he doesn't count as a full doll!

What is it they say? Eyes are the windows to the soul? I do like the mouth too. I've started liking dolls with a hint of teeth. They look so adorable.

I actually wish Peakswood offered Fox Goon in that colour but I believe that was a limited colour or something. I rather like the face a lot and have been leaning towards this sculpt for Yana.

Slow week at work but I think it'll be getting busy again tomorrow! Hope yours has been a good one!

PS: Started watching some new K-Dramas on the weekend which I'm getting into, Let's Fight Ghost and also started a C-Drama, Wu Xin, Monster Killer. Enjoying both a lot. Really need to finish Healer though especially after reading your stellar review of the show.

    2. Suntan skin is a special skintone offered at some events only. When Sassy Rosy was released they put all the special skin tones available for all the FOF dolls for a period of time, but it ssadly doesn't happen often, especially when their tinies.

I really want to watch let's fight Ghost too, but I'll wait until it ends airing haha. I'm watching Beautiful Gong Shim at the moment and I like it, though I recently discovered a drama called W Two worlds where the main lead is one of the actors I like but it's a Viki exclusive XD first time Drama Fever let's me down

    3. Did you see the new one called Ice Fantasy in the one of the more recent Drama Fever emails? I'm really curious about that one too. I agree, I'm annoyed Viki has W on exclusive and you need one of their special passes to watch it. Grrr.

  2. Hi There!
Oh I like this Meme Alasse, I will have a go at it myself when I get time.

Love the concept you have for the Avatars, it's a really fascinating storyline and you could really have some fun with this one. It's also one I would enjoy reading. :)

As far as Yana herself ... well, the doll I would love to see as Yana is Fox Goon, the face is perfect for her, sweet and thoughtful, like she's in a world of her own (which she will be soon enough).

I look forward to seeing this develop.
    Hugs,
    X

    1. Oooh I hope you will be able to do the meme Xanadu! I'd love to see all your crew!

I love gaming so it's not a big stretch for me and I love watching anime so it's a natural marriage I think.

It's funny but both you and Fantasywoods like Fox Goon as Yana the most and it's the sculpt I was leaning towards once I put the photo montage together. I think it's the expression that fits Yana the most. Shame they don't offer that tan colour because it's gorgeous but I'd be happy with normal skin as well.

  3. Oh I love the company vs reality meme, I hope I can also do the photo comparison, those are fun but take a lot of time! ~

I think your "Avatars" story sounds very interesting and I feel PW dollies have a bit more sparkling personality to them in general ~ I can't wait to see who you decide on finally!

    1. They do take a lot of time! Still, I hope you will be able to do one for your crew. I'd be interested to see them all together.

Thank you! I think I am definitely leaning towards Fox Goon. I just like the eye shape and lip shape for that sculpt quite a bit, also really like the face up. Peakswood always do such lovely face ups on their dolls.
