Black Label vs No 26

I can't believe how fast this week has gone! Work has been crazy busy so it's nice to finally get to the weekend and some doll time.

First up, I want to introduce you to the Black Label Barbie. These will be my first in this line of dolls. I had actually just wanted Katniss from Hunger Games to turn into Lara Croft but she came in a two pack with Peta at an exceptional bargain price so I thought I'd just grab the pack with both of them in it and turn him into the Tenth Doctor. I had to order these guys online as these dolls are never available here. They arrived earlier in the week.

To say I was blown away by the detailing on these is an understatement. I was quite surprised and delighted to find the resemblance to the actors in these face sculpts. And the face screening is just beautiful on both dolls.

They look so good in the boxes, I really was tempted to keep them in their boxes but you know me. I just have to 'play' with things. The box art itself is quite lovely. The back on both are similar except they have their character names and details.

They do come with doll stands BUT they can stand on their own. The only thing was the back of their suits were lightly sewn in but it's easy enough to snip and add in snaps so you can redress them. I believe Katniss has the typical heeled Barbie feet. She can stand here because of her shoes. Their knees and elbows can both bend and they also have wrist movement which is nice. Peta's knees feel a little loose though but I can probably fix that.

Katniss comes with a bow and arrows which I think are quite nicely designed. The bow does feel a little fragile so won't stand up to rough handling.

Katniss looking gorgeous. This was taken before I washed out the styling products in her hair and redid her braid.

Peta as he appeared out of the box. The amount of products on these dolls made their hair feel like cardboard. It had to go. There was even some on Kat's face which I had to clean off.

Peta after his hair was washed. It felt really soft and quite nice. I like how this frames his face now.

A joyful reunion after being freed from their box.

Both dolls also came with their very own COA. I thought that was a neat touch.

I also picked up a Fashionista doll from K-Mart. They had these guys on special and really cheap so I thought I'd pick one up and see what I thought. She is Number 26. I haven't got a name for her yet so I'm calling her 26. Reminds me a little of the Get Smart tv show!

I have been rather fascinated by this particular size in the line. I like that she's curvy.

I had read that some of these dolls came with flat feet. Mine had slightly heeled feet but she can stand on her own in these shoes. I haven't tried out of the shoes though. I love her figure quite a lot. She's also on the shorter side in terms of height.

These are all the dolls in this line. I rather like 24, 22 and 29 and may try to get these if I happen to see them in store. The only thing I was a bit disappointed about was that these dolls don't pose at all. Their arms and knees do not bend. They can stand and sit and that seems to be about all. This makes photo ops a bit challenging. I'm still hoping they come out with the Made to Move bodies in these shapes so I can hybrid the heads.

What would a post be without at least one doll doing a selfie? The way the light reflects on her lips, she almost looks like she has fangs.

And a comparison with the Black Label dolls. Katniss looks so small next to her!

I've been wondering what it is about the Fashionista girls and Basic Barbies that appeal to me and I realised that they remind me of The Sims! That explains it all!

Have a rockin' weekend everyone!

  1. I hadn't realized that those Hunger Games Barbies had unique headsculpts so that's brilliant to see. And I can't wait to see how they evolve into your Tombraider and DW customs!

    1. Have you seen the Wonder Woman one in the Black Label line? She looks amazing. I'm kind of procrastinating on whether I'll get her or not. What's stopping me right now though is the shipping costs from the US. They're getting as bad as Australia! Our postal costs are ridiculous nowadays.

    2. Is that Batman vs. Superman Wonder Woman? I've been eyeing her as well (and maybe Batman too) - I keep thinking that because the movie got such bad reviews the dolls should go on sale, but so far I've only seen them for full price or higher.

    3. Yes that's the one. What are they at full price? Doll Peddler has her for $49.95 USD and I think they have Batman too, I can't remember. It's in the Barbie, Pop Culture section of the website. I'd even be happy enjoying her through your photos if you end up getting her. I'm actually debating over her or the DC Comic Wonder Woman (although she's pretty much sold out everywhere here right now).

  2. I love collector edition barbies, they are always so pretty! I'm not familiar with the Hunger games but they look really nice!

Of course my favorite is the curvy barbie though I can't believe her ankles are so thin! I guess that makes her fit standar barbie shoes right?

Can't wait to see the customs you are planning for these! step by step photos would be lovely if you ever decide to do that, the progress photos on how a character becomes another :D

    Have a great weekend!

    1. The Hunger Games is a series of movies based on the book of the same name. It's actually not a bad read. It's YA fiction. Mattel released a range of characters based on the movie versions which were all really well done. Sadly, I haven't been able to get my hands on the other two versions of Katniss, one that really reminds me of Lara Croft. They're really pricey on Ebay though.

I haven't tried other shoes on her yet, mostly because I love the shoes this particular curvy Barbie came with a lot. Wait, I just tried some pink boots that came with a Barbie fashion pack on her and it's too small for her. Her feet seem just a bit bigger than the normal sized Barbie girls. So maybe custom or curvy shoes only?

I don't plan to change the faces because I adore them a lot. It's mostly just the outfits I will be doing. Katniss to me already looks like Lara Croft. Okay so her eyes are a different shade but I'm not really bothered if it's not 100% accurate.

Hope your weekend is a good one, relaxing and fun!

  3. Crikey Alasse, when I read the post description I wasn't sure if it was about Scotch or Perfume. LOL! I think the Katniss resemblance is uncanny, probably the best I have ever seen on a doll! I would keep her as she is and find another doll for Lara Croft if she were mine.

Number 26 is not bad at all, and I really like her shapely legs.

I shall now look forward to seeing your customs when they are done.
    Hugs,
    X

    1. Oh of course, there's a Scotch brand called Black Label right? I should know that as it's the one I buy for Dad all the time! And Perfume ... yeah, I could see No. 26 as a perfume name, hmmm ... you have my creative wheels turning now!

I definitely don't plan to repaint their faces. I love them the way they are and Katniss already looks like Lara Croft (in fact, the moment I saw this version of her, I thought of Lara Croft straight away! - Oh the actress would be great in a Tomb Raider movie!). I'm just going to change out their outfits. Won't be 100% accurate but will still (hopefully) show the general gist of the character.

I love No. 26 and those legs are so nice. I saw No. 22 in person at Toyworld today and I like her but not enough to want to add her to my collection I think. She's pretty and all but I much prefer No. 26 and her face style and colouring. There's also another one that comes with a fashion pack although I am not sure about her yet.
