I have been lucky in one instance though. I fell in love with Luts Maska when I saw the elf version of him. By then it'd been a while since that release and he was a limited. I never thought further on it until they released Ghost Maska. I had been keeping an eye on Luts releases and managed to get him. He doesn't have the elf ears but that wasn't a deal breaker for me. Plus I really liked the ghostly face up on him. That however has been the one and only time.
So I thought today, I'd do a post on the ones that got away.

First up (and I think I have mentioned her on the blog before) is Day Tripper Poppy Parker with the pale blonde hair, freckles and yellow eyeshadow. I adore this version of Poppy. It's my favourite of all the Poppies released. She came out in 2012 (I didn't get into these dolls until 2015). I have seen her come up about three times on the second hand market, all for around the $400-500USD mark which is beyond my budget for this doll line. I am still waiting and hoping she will come up one day at the right price.

Next up is Sugarble Hellena. I really wanted to get this doll in grey skin. The problem was, I discovered this company after they renewed the body for this size and I wasn't a fan of the Version 2 body especially after reading a few reviews on it. I actually preferred the aesthetics of the old body. Sadly they didn't offer the old body anymore as a choice. I was debating getting her anyway because I just adore her face when I by chance stumbled on a discussion on DOA about the company discontinuing this particular line and all the sculpts in it. Saddened by this news, I went to the site with the intention of ordering her anyway only to discover the order period for the last chance to get these dolls had already closed and by a few weeks. Again, I was late to the party. I did email the company and they have said they are renewing the line but I'm not sure if they are renewing just the body or the entire line including all the sculpts. They didn't have an estimated date for the renewal dolls, but I'll be keeping an eye on their releases just in case.

I actually didn't know about Sio2 or that they even existed until fantasywoods posted her box opening for this cutie. This little one is a Sio2 Sheep. Just something about this doll draws me in and keeps me there. The face is adorable, the sculpting is amazing and she's just so unique. Shame more dealers don't carry this company's dolls.

Last but not least, I just discovered this little girl last week whilst browsing the company's website on a whim. She is Fairy Orris of Mushrooms. Her little face just takes my heart and I adore everything she comes with. It's a shame most of Aileen Doll's releases seem to be time limited.
These dolls aren't listed on my wishlist anymore for several reasons:
1. With bjds, I don't tend to buy second hand these days unless it's from someone I know. Just a little too wary with the current environment.
2. Second hand prices for some of these are beyond my doll budget.
3. I still hold out hope that the companies may one day decide to re-release these sculpts for a special event or something.
4. I'm content to continue to dream of these dolls even if I will most likely never end up owning them.
Do you have a list of dolls that got away? Were you lucky enough to get them in the end?
It seems you still have some chances to buy some of these dollies later on! I do hope some of the companies re-release older dollies also!
ReplyDeleteSIO2 is quite a talented sculptor I think!
My ultimate getaway is Dollti Wooyan (released in an extremely limited number around 2005 I believe then the company basically disappeared)~ it's kind of fun to have these kinds of dream dolls though!
I would love if companies had a special event where you could order any of their previously limited dolls. That would be awesome. Although I'd have to think carefully about which one I would get as I couldn't afford to get them all at once!
DeleteOooh I am actually familiar with the Dollti brand. The Wooyan sculpt sounds so familiar too. I will have to google search that one! That reminds me of another well known company but I can't think of the name right now but they made dolls with posable feet and toes. It's on the tip of my tongue but I just can't remember the name. They kind of disappeared too. I always wonder whatever happened to them. Ah, Domuyu!
All very lovely dolls, love the colors of that Poppy edition!
ReplyDeleteI think yuou can still get SIO2 Bleater through taobao, but it is a pain, or at least it was for me since the translated options made absolute no sense. In any case I've seen some dealers for SIO2 and they keep releasing great stuff so who knows, maybe you will fall in love with a nicer sculpt later on.
The one doll I truly love and I came way too late to buy it is the Aileendoll cats, not the huymanized version but the cats with the wings and the cute eyes, so adorable and perfect! Wish they would release them again
SI02 are really talented and I think they will release more things that I will fall in love with. Whether I know about it before they sell out or not is another story entirely! I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with your little sheep.
DeleteOoooh those cats! I know exactly the ones you are talking about. I eyeballed them too when they were first released but procrastinated way too long and missed out on those. I thought they were pretty cute. Here's hoping they will release them again!
Hi Alasse,
ReplyDeleteI do hope you manage to find the dolls you missed, at the right time and when money is not a problem for you. Sometimes it's difficult to get them all aligned. :)
Luck has been on my side, because the one that did get away ended up not right for me anyway . . . too big!!
Hugs,
X
I keep hoping the stars will align one day but for right now, I'm content to keep on dreaming. That turned out good then that the one that got away ended up not being right for you.
DeleteI hope you'd get a chance to purchase them at some point in the future! You never know ;3 I'm sure at least the SIO2 sheep will be available for pre-order, though their ordering system can be a bit confusing. Sugarble dolls seem really interesting too, I almost cave in when they had the super sale with naga bodies... Trying to not get more yo-SD sized dolls myself though ^^;
ReplyDeleteI'll just keep my eyes open to see what Sugarble come back with in the future. SI02 seem like a company that will continue to release some great stuff so it'd be interesting to see them evolve. I think I am the opposite to you, I've fallen head over heels in love with the smaller sizes lately.
