Taking a step up

I joined the W Club this year. I know I had previously said I wouldn't again and I didn't join in 2016 however, it was hard to get any of the dolls at retail price (most were triple that if not more on the secondhand market). Plus, one of the upgrade dolls was a really neat looking Poppy Parker.

She is the 12" Popster Poppy Parker doll from the Swinging London Collection. I really love the face screening on her and it looks like the fashion theme for this year might be the 60s era which I love. Mod style fashion. Bright, fun colours and designs.

I'm also stepping it up this year and plunging into the world of 16" fashion dolls. I purchased my very first today, second hand, at a great bargain.

She is the Silver Shine Mallory Martin from the Poppy Parker Fashion Teen Collection line. She uses the old Tullabelle sculpt (Poppy Parker's granddaughter) but in this reincarnation, I believe she is Poppy Parker's best friend.

I purchased her nude so she doesn't come with any clothes or accessories which is okay as I wasn't too fussed on her dress anyway. I think she is quite a stunner and she has my favourite hair and eye colour combination which is a bonus. I am pretty excited about delving into this new size of fashion dolls. I'm hoping to get a 16" Poppy Parker doll at some stage. I am hoping Integrity release some this year.

In other news, I have discarded the wishlist. They never seem to work for me. I decided to not get anymore bjds. I really feel that I've moved on from the acquisition of those dolls. I'm happy with how many I have currently and don't really want to add anymore. I may even decide to downsize at some point. Although who is to go will be a hard one.

Wishing everyone a great weekend!

  1. Wish lists never work according to plan haha. You know what? I've been thinking the exact same, I have enough BJDs!!! I want a YoSD version of Lucas at some point, but for now I'm having a blast with other dolls :D Never thought this would happen to me haha

And that's okay. You can always change your wish list back again and go buy more BJDs, that's the beauty of being human~ happiness has not a formula set in stone, it changes as we change :)

Not sure how the W clucb thing works? You pay a subscription for the club and get the Poppy Parker girl from the first photo with it ??? or they elt you buy it? Are you getting her?
I love Poppy Parker, and that's on you!! Before your blog I was really not into fashion dolls at all, but yours are so gorgeous!! and that new one is very nice, love 60s clothing style too~ Did you watch Mad Men?? LOOOOOVED the clothes, was the reason I started watching that show in the first place.

I had no idea there were bigger fashion dolls, had to convert the inches to cm on google, she's like an msd!! She looks amazing, will you be posting comparison shots between 12" and 16"? that would be neat!
1/6 dolls are my favorite size and I'm not even sure if MSDs are for me hahah, but I haven't give my Junia a fair chance yet.
Congrats on the new girl!!! (or girls?)
Hope you are enjoying your weekend~

    1. I think I am feeling so overwhelmed by how many SDs I have even though I only have 5! Maybe like you, I've become more predisposed towards the smaller sizes for all their advantages; ease of travel if you want to take them with you, less storage space required, cute outfits, easier to handle, less weight. I don't often handle my big dolls much anymore because they feel so huge and clunky.

If I do buy another bjd, it would have to really really win my heart and I haven't seen one do that in a very long time for me. I have been looking at those PVC dolls from Bluefairy though. I have a spare Pureneemo body or two that might need one of those heads!

With the W Club, there is a base subscription fee ($50USD). Every year when they open up the join period (usually 3-4 weeks around January/February each year), they also offer around 3 upgrade dolls. This just means that if you want to, you can pre-order one or all of these upgrade dolls when you join the club. So for example, for me, I joined the club and wanted to purchase the Poppy Parker upgrade doll so I pay the $50USD (join fee) + $25USD deposit for the upgrade doll (obviously if you buy all three, it's $25USD deposit for each upgrade doll). The dolls aren't due for release until later in the year and you pay the rest when the doll is ready to ship. Most of the dolls have a total cost of $120USD. So you just pay the balance when the doll comes in and the doll gets shipped out to you soon after. I don't mind this method because I don't have to outlay the entire amount up front initially and if needed, I can just save up to pay the balance when it's due.

There are a lot of benefits to joining the club like lotteries for some special doll releases that are only available to club members and knowing of upcoming releases before the general public. There is quite a few advantages and perks which is the attraction for me to join the club.

And like I mentioned in the post, these dolls go for well and truly above retail on the secondhand market. We talk about bjds holding their value over time, these dolls tend to as well, in fact, their value tends to increase the harder they are to get. I found this is also true for Momoko dolls and Misaki dolls as well. Popular lines like Poppy Parker skyrocket in secondhand prices. I saw my Poppy Parker grail (Daytripper) show up on a few secondhand market places over the past year and just recently and they're going for about $500USD+. She retailed when she came out for $99USD.

Mad Men is one of those shows on my to watch list that I never seem to get around to watching. I must add that to my to watch soon list.

Oh yes there are a lot of 16" fashion dolls around, the most well known being from Tonner but there are others, all vinyl dolls. Integrity have a FR16 line as well as their Poppy Parker Fashion Teen Model line (which is their 16" line for Poppy and her friends).

It's hard not to love Poppy Parker. She's such a gorgeous doll. I've become quite smitten by her (as evidenced by the two I have with that one on pre-order). I will definitely be doing a comparison between the two sizes. When I get a 16" Poppy Parker, I will do a comparison with my 12" Poppy Parker. I'm curious how she will differ being 'blown up' to a bigger size.

1/6 or 12" dolls are fantastic sizes for dioramas and there is so much out there for them, furniture and prop wise and they don't break your bank. That's the attraction for me with those dolls. I can actually set up scenes with them that I can't do with my bjds because I just don't have the space to make dioramas in those sizes and store them. I'm already running out of space to store all my 1/6 scale furniture and props as it is!

  2. Hi Alasse,
Isn't it amazing what we learn from each other? I had never heard of the W Club before you mentioned it.

I do like your two new choices, they are both really pretty and quite elegant. I also thing their Faceups give them quite a distinctive look.

    Congratulations!
    Hugs,
    X

    1. It's similar to the Barbie club but the W Club is for those who collect dolls made by Integrity Toys. It's also open to international fans. I'm not sure if the Barbie club is or not. I've never been a member.

I really like that IT went with a more subtle look for Poppy. I always like the lighter shades of lipstick and eyeshadow on dolls. But the glamourous ones do have their place too. I just need to figure out where to get some clothes from. I've been hunting around all day and haven't had a lot of luck!

  3. Had to google W Club and ended up on their page....and found "Dracula and his Brides" and then "Tulabelle". Beautiful dolls!
And those wish lists can be a pain, sometimes. I have a wish list and I think that I will keep it for a while. But as I said to my husband, there are only two dolls on this list that always pop up in my mind. The other dolls does not. He said that I should drop the other dolls and just have the two on the list. I may end up with a wish list with just two dolls. :D
I really like them both a lot, but especially the first one, there is something special with her! Congratulations!

    1. I keep doing wishlists and I should know better by now as they're always changing. I think half the time, I just get tempted by the company photos more than anything else! They always put such great effort into photographing their dolls.

Integrity make really lovely fashion dolls. I just wish I could make the fashion clothes to go with them!

  4. Congrats on the new purchases! I really like the first girl also.
I wish you'd been to the doll fair here on Sunday, there were lots of nude momokos and misakis for sale, there was even a gorgeous repainted momoko! I thought of you a lot!
Let me know how it goes on the downsizing, as I'm planning that myself one day, having 30 BJDs crammed in a closet at home isn't optimal! Haha, but the downsizing itself needs a special approach!

    1. Oh wow, to be able to see Momoko and Misaki dolls, that would be a dream. FRNippon seem to only do one release a year (which is both good and bad!). And they're always hard to get online. A repainted Momoko sounds interesting. I love the face screening for Momoko a lot so I'd be curious to see a repainted one.

Knowing me, my downsizing might be a struggle. Every time i think of who to cull, I get all mushy and think about why I got the doll in the first place and then change my mind about culling that doll! It's a vicious circle!

  5. I love that Tulabelle mold. I think this year I might like to get a doll with that sculpt.

    1. The Tulabelle face looks really lovely. Apparently I recently discovered there are two versions, the older version (1) and the newer version (2.0) which is the version I bought. There are obvious differences between the two so just do some goggling when you find a Tulabelle to make sure you're getting the face version you want.
