Second mystery doll arrived today ... and she was worth the wait!
She is my very first Silkstone Barbie. I've been curious about these dolls for a while but what always stopped me was their lack of posing ability (although that's not going to stop me from getting an original body Silkstone at some point!). So when an articulated Silkstone was first rumoured, I followed the news quite closely. Sadly, I procrastinated too long and missed out on getting the very first articulated Silkstone, the blonde version of Classic Black Dress. I hope to get her eventually (if the price is right, she tends to go for double and sometimes triple her retail these days).
From my understanding, these dolls are called Barbie Fashion Model Collection or BFMC for short and seem to come in under the Gold Label collection.
The box is really gorgeous and depending on how the light hits it can appear gold in places.
The back of the box tells a little about the BFMC line.
These are always a nice touch for any collector doll.
I love a good packaging and attention to detail. It's the little things that make you feel you are getting something extra special.
And there she is ... let me just bask in her glory ...
I love how her head is slightly tilted so that it looks like she's dreaming of far away places.
She comes with a super sturdy stand which has some good weight to it so you don't have to worry it might fall over!
And the biggest shock of all? She's heavy. Like holding a YO-SD heavy. I got my husband to hold her and his first words were, "She feels like a bjd."
Her skin is silky and soft to the touch. She has a really good weight to her and feels quite solid. She obviously can't stand on her own as she has the heeled feet. (Because Silkstones never wear flats!). But she can do poses! Her elbows bend, her wrist move up and down, her legs bend - nothing overly complicated but her jointed peg system does the job. The peg joints feel pretty stiff but I like it like that. I often don't like how some of my other vinyl doll joints feel so loose like they could just fall off.
She's really a very stunning girl. I had heard about the weight of these dolls but getting to feel them in person ... so surreal especially when you think they are going to be light like the playline Barbie but nope, they are heavy like resin. A good weight though. I'm pretty sure my Tinies aren't even this heavy. I'll have to compare her to the weight of my resin dolls.
To finish ... I'm blown away and am possibly converted. I already have my eye on another but it's taking a bit longer to save for her. Hopefully she won't have sold out by then!
Happy Easter everyone!
Ohh, i started looking at silkstones after what you said in your previous post! She is super fab, I love her makeup and dark retro style!
ReplyDeleteShe is very charming in person. Does that mean there might be a Silkstone in your future?
DeleteI adore the fashion for these dolls and now that they are articulated, I feel like there will be more possibilities with photographing them.
Congrats!! She is stunning!! Only Silkstones and classic barbie reproductions have this vintage face???? It's my favorite Barbie style, so classy! Loving the dress paired with boots and that hairstyle is so fitting. I'm guessing her clothes quality is very nice??? at least compared to their playline, but what about compared to BJD clothes?
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised that she is that much heavier than regular Barbies! how interestingly cool :D
There are definitely differences between the reproduction face screening and the Silkstones. I feel the Silkstone has more detail but they are very similar in style. Both remind me of the retro style. In terms of clothing quality, I feel the black dress this girl came in is very nice quality, on par with Fashion Royalty clothing which is always really great quality (similar to bjd clothes in my opinion). Shame the boots are plastic though but still nice quality but nowhere near Fashion Royalty doll shoes which are amazing. She's supposed to be more of the basic doll in the series so I'd really love to get one of the more luxurious dolls with the more complex outfits for a comparison.
DeleteI held her today and held a Yo-SD (Bimong Chuu) and a Minifee girl. Her weight (to me) would be between the Yo-SD and the Minifee girl. She is much heavier than my Tiny bjds (16cm). Twas very surprising.
She's lovely! The cut of that dress and the style of her hair are fabulous. Congratulations on having her!
ReplyDeleteIt's a very retro style which I adore quite a bit. I hope to at least get another one or two of these dolls for my collection - only a small collection though.
DeleteCongrats, I really love her - stunning and her face is so nice with that retro style! Amazing that she is so heavy, would not expected that.
ReplyDeleteSame here. The weight really surprised me but it was also pretty neat. This retro style never grows old. I really love that particular era so these dolls are really right up my alley.
