Last night, I came across Rinmaru Games Mega Fantasy Avatar Creator. Okay, I totally love these things. It's basically digital dress up dolls and I've always had a weakness for those! I spent way too many hours playing around on it but I did come away feeling inspired to try and create the characters as I originally saw them again.
I've always been a big fan of the fantasy genre so it'd be neat if that could be reflected in my dolls.

This mostly pertains to my MSD collection. I'll start from top left, row one.
Arianna {MNF Halloween} - Rogue/Thief Character Class; Raised by the Black Crow gang.
Aron {DZ Hid} - Fighter Class; Mercenary for hire, rumoured to be a fallen knight.
Illyana {MNF Shushu} - Cleric Class; Priestess of Celestris, Patron Guardian of Avaria.
Jamal {MNF El} - Ranger Class; A hunter of the nomadic people of the steppes.
Silvano {KDF Maska} - Bard Class; Storyteller/Singer with an idealised vision of heroism.
Yuki Onna {MYD Hee-ah} - Ghost/Spirit - Inspired by Japanese folk lore and 'Shirahime Syo' manga by CLAMP - the only doll to actually resemble the character of the Yuki Onna in doll form.
All of the characters (except for the Yuki Onna) are part of 'The Companions' who set out across Avaria to find and destroy the Seven Seals that if found and brought together would bring about darkness and destruction to all the kingdoms.

There's one more companion who joins them for her own reasons, an elf who is searching for a powerful artefact that belonged to her people and was stolen by a human thief.
Her name is Farryn and these are the three versions of her that I am procrastinating over. She's the only doll I haven't got yet and will be the next resin doll I purchase once I figure out if she's a wood elf, a nomadic desert elf or one of the Drak'kin (elves that are half dragon blood and half elf blood).
Each of the elf groups have their own distinct pros and cons so it's just a matter of whether I want more of a druid character that uses earth magic and can talk to animals, a hunter type character that combines physical and magical attacks {offensive} or a character that utilises a combination of hunting, blood magic and dragon specific magic skills. The latter being the darker of the groups.
How could I do one of these without actually making one of Deirdre as I see her, as a Queen of a great Kingdom.
Last one, my original protagonist from the original Seven Seals story, Raen Svestra. I've actually never tried to shell her in doll form. I have thought about it a few times but have never been able to find a sculpt to do her character justice. She was a mercenary fighter who found herself embroiled in a quest to find the Seven Seals and destroy them. She was aided along the way by her companions, a mage running from his family, a nomadic man who was outcast by his tribe, a dark elf seeking redemption for a heinous crime and a healer just starting out.
Now that I think about it, Raen seems to carry the essence of Deirdre or is it the other way around ...
Okay I have got to stop playing around with this avatar creator otherwise I'll get nothing done today!

Oh, I love that these inspired you to remember your characters! x3 It's always good to get back into your own universe again :3 ~
ReplyDeleteI agree, it's so hard to get specific looks for dolls, in the end you might need to commission costume sets also xO That's why I gave up on making dolls out of my characters xD!
I feel like I haven't visited that universe in a long time. I kind of gave up trying because of the lack of clothing available! I honestly envy those that don't have characters for their dolls. I think there's such a great freedom in that. You're not restricted to the vision in your head which can sometimes be too complicated to make a reality!
DeleteI love both your dolls and your fantasy character ideas for them, I find it all very interesting and your dolls are always so nice to look at too.
ReplyDeleteI love Yuki Onna, you did a great work with her and I love her doll form way more than any avatar of her you could create!
I'm very intrigued by your elves classification, in games is usually the healer elf and the hunter elf and not much more, or at least the ones I've played. I don't read many books that have elves in them I don't think. Eragon comes to mind. I was never a fan of LOTR.
Avatar making is super fun, I love seeing what people come up with.
Hope you have an amazing week!
I'm quite pleased that I could actually make Yuki Onna a reality. I've always been fascinated with all the folk lore surrounding her existence. Both good and bad. It helps that Xhanthi did such a great job on her face and it just really suits the character well.
DeleteOh man, I couldn't even get through the second book of LOTR. It took me an entire year to finish the first book. It's a heavy read. I don't mind the movies though.
I'm fascinated by elves. Some consider them good, others consider them bad {like the bad faeries}. I see elves coming from a host of different backgrounds and cultures and have their own group of different races.
Hope you have a chance to check out the avatar creator. It is a lot of fun!
When my shoulder gets back to normal again, I hope my week gets better. Hope your week is a lot better than mine!
Last night, after the theater (youngest daughter and her group had a performance) and the need of just relaxing a bit, I played around at Rinmaru. Made all kinds of avatars just for fun. It is great place to be at and create characters.
ReplyDeleteI really understand the part of just giving up the story because it is hard to find special clothes or even fabrics, if you want to make costumes yourself to the dollies. I agree with Irene, it may be a way to go with commission. Pricy, though, but a way.
I like your characters, they are interesting. I have always had a place in my heart for LOTR, Harry Potter, van Helsing and such things. It is easy to find inspiration that way.
Have a great week!
Isn't it addictive though? I had so much fun playing around on there.
DeleteWhat theatre production did your daughter and her group perform?
I remember commissioning one lady ages ago and she did such a great job on an outfit but don't think she's still part of the hobby. It'd be nice if I could commission her again. But yes, commissioning is pricey. Will have to see if I still have a job in June.
Love fantasy stories. There's just something so magical about them I find.
Hope your week turns out great too!
Hi Alasse,
ReplyDeleteThis all sounds very interesting, you know how I love fantasy themes and stories. I really do wish you would attempt to sew the costumes for yourself, I am sure you could do it and it would be a great exercise in turning you imaginings into reality. You need not rush, just attempt one at a time.
I like the third version of Farryn best, but I love anything dragon related too. :)
Hugs,
X
I am going to try and sew some of the costumes. I just need to research how to do some of them. I know the basics of a simple medieval gown so maybe I can start with that ... Thank you for the encouragement!
