A new lady arrived today, one that I could never have imagined being able to get my hands on. She is the Silkstone FMC Joan Holloway from Mad Men. She was released in 2010 and as with most dolls I come to late, I don't hold out much hope in ever being able to acquire them. If she does pop up on the second hand market, she's usually quite pricey and she sells lightening fast.
I found her on ebay from a seller in Australia (added bonus!). She was being sold without her outfit and accessories although she did come with her corset, stand, box and COA. And she was a really reasonable price. In perfect condition (she had been removed from her box but only displayed in a closed cabinet by her previous owner).
She is my one and only Silkstone grail which I am so happy to have. I had always wondered what the attraction with these dolls were but having one in my collection, I can see the appeal. She has a good weight to her, like my other Silkstone girl. And of course, red hair and blue eyes, my favourite colour combination, how could I resist?
Her box. I love the illustration on the front. The back shows all four of the characters released in this series.
Here she is in her box, safe and sound and looking fabulous. This Silkstone girl is different from my other one in that she is on the original Silkstone body (that does not pose). It is a beautiful body and the skin feels so silky and smooth. Kind of reminds me a little of some of my resin dolls.
Her corset is beautifully designed. Massive long tag though. This corset appears to have been designed to not be removed from her as there are no closures. I'm not too bothered as it acts as a stain barrier too.
I tried her in one of my FR dresses which she fits fairly well. The little black belt didn't fit though as her waist is a smidge wider than the FR girls. This girl totally fits the 50s - 60s theme so well.
I really adore her pale skin coupled with her hair, eyes and lip colour. She looks so striking.
Posing her is a challenge but it's do-able. All she needs is some pearls I think.
I'm working on a 50s/60s themed diorama for her and my other Silkstone girl which I will post more on when I actually make some progress and have something to show.
Happy Weekend!
Congrats Alasse! And so we have another red haired girl joining the collection, what a great choice! She is very sixties, especially in that dress, and yes a string of pearls would certainly finish the look. Perfectly. :)

I couldn't resist her at all. I can kind of see why people prefer the original classic Silkstone body though. It feels really nice and silky and although it is a challenge to pose, I rather like the seamless lines for showing off the fashion.
DeleteCongrats! I am so glad that you found her. She is really beautiful and I loved her in the "Mad Men". The dress fits her nicely!
ReplyDeleteI got the dress I bought for her finally and still need to take a photo but the new dress fits her to a T. I've only watched a few episodes of Mad Men so far but she is quite the character.
DeleteI love the 50s/60s fashion style also, and this girl is really wonderful looking! I also adore the pale skin x3
ReplyDeleteThe pale skin I find makes her make up really pop too which is nice. I wish I could wear fashion from that era but they're so tight around the torso area.
DeleteI love her!!! Congrats!!! Hope to see more of her soon :D
ReplyDeleteThanks! She has a new dress which suits her perfectly.
