Enter Helena

I mentioned in my last post that I was waiting for a body to arrive for my Bimong Dandelion head. The body arrived today and my Dandelion looks really nice on it.

The body is the Old Souldoll Double female body which has been discontinued. I purchased the body second-hand from a seller in Australia. The body was from 2014 but the previous owner had kept the body mostly in the box and as far as I'm concerned, it looks in pretty good condition. There were a few marks which were mentioned on the sales post but they came off easily with a magic eraser and some warm water.

I did have to use a neck donut to lift the head up otherwise without it, she had no neck as the face plate hangs a lot lower at the front. It also gave her a really good range of head movement too. Without the donut, her head didn't really move at all.

This is a better photo to show the resin match. From my research, I discovered that apparently the old double Souldoll body used the old normal resin colour (which I've read has changed since). So newer resin batches may not match as closely. Even with this, the Bimong head is a lot lighter than the body but I think once she has a face up, that will help it to blend better with the body. It's not a horrible match but not 100% either but as I rather like the sculpting, the height, the slenderness of this body a lot, it's not a deal breaker for me.

I'm really glad  I waited around a bit longer than I intended for the right body to show up for her.

These are the hands on this body. They are so pretty. I may give her fingernails a french manicure look. She also came with heeled feet as well as her flat feet which was great.

Close up of her features. I really adore the sculpting on this face. Those lips are so lovely. I've already got a face up artist in mind. I thought about painting her myself but I just don't think I can do this sculpt justice. I know exactly what look I'm wanting for her. But gotta say, even blank, this girl is gorgeous.

I really wanted to see how she would look with wigs and clothes on. I'm still not sure if I'll keep that wig for her final look. I like the style though so I might go with a black colour instead in the same style. Clothing wise, this girl is going to be hard to dress. She's not as big as the standard SD girl and not as small as an MSD girl. She's an in-between size. Trust me to like a body that requires a whole new line of clothing! Ack.

I suppose that's a good thing as she is meant to be 'Helena', the geneticist who works with Geraint and she wouldn't really wear this sort of style normally. Her hair is usually neatly tied back when she's working and she is also supposed to wear glasses. Looking at her like this though, I am tempted to turn her into another character entirely but ... we'll see after she gets a face up.

Have a good weekend!

  1. Congrats on the new body!!! She looks great in it and I'm sure the difference in color won't be noticeable once she has a face up, blushing tends to make resin looks a bit darker so it's good the head is lighter and not the other way around.
Can't wait to see her finished!

    1. I'm really loving this body. It's so petite. I think it's similar in height to the Zaoll bodies. From what I've been able to research, Zaoll clothing and shoes seem to be a good fit for this body although I haven't purchased any yet.

  2. Hello! I like your doll characters and I'm curious about the story you create. This Bimong girl is amazing. Giving her a faceup will be like diamond cutting - she'll be a real gem. Have a nice weekend!

    1. Thank you for your comment. Always nice to see a new face on the blog! I think it might be a while before she's finished though as I will have to send her to my face up artist to work on her. My stories are ever evolving. But I tend to prefer a mixture of genres.

  3. Hi Alasse!
Congrats she looks wonderful on that body. I'm curious as to where you found the donut though and would have loved to see photos of how you put it in. :) I'm with you on the very slight difference in the resin colours, sometimes the body match is more important and a little blushing often helps overcome this.

I shall look forward to seeing this gal when she's complete.
    Hugs,
    X

    1. I'll make a post a bit later on how I put on the neck donut and some links although the one I used on her neck I got years ago and I can't really remember where but I do know of at least one place that sells them but they aren't like the one I used on her. I have found the heads that use the faceplate system seem to hang lower at the front - this is the same for my Dollshe Saint when I used to hybrid him on another SD body before I got his Dollshe one I also had to use a neck donut otherwise he would have had no neck!

I also think by the time you add the clothes, wig etc, the colour mismatch doesn't seem to be as prominent except in specific lighting.

  4. She is gorgeous!!! And she looks amazing on the body.
And think you are right. It is easier that the head is lighter than the body, since you can work with a god face up to cover that. And the match is already not so bad... the head is just a little lighter. I am really happy for you - I think Helena already looks stunning

    1. This body is really nice. I still think I will have to glue suede her knee and thigh but otherwise, even without, she stands not too badly. I am using the string that came with her but I think I am going to try and find 4 or 4.5 string as I think that thickness will give her better stability.

I already have a specific type of face picked out for her. I just need to send her away at some stage to get it done.

    2. Ohh, do you already know which artist you want to send her?

    3. I have one in mind but it depends on how busy they are and if they are able to paint the style I am looking for. It'll still be a while though I think. In the meantime, lucky she's so adorable even blank!

  5. Congrats on getting her a new body! She looks amazing! And even without the face up, she is beautiful. Look forward to see her with a face up!
The head, Narsha Zihu, I got was a bit lighter compared to the "yellowed" body, but a face up did wonders.
    And a donut?? O_o Sorry for asking - a what? :D
    Have a nice new week!

    1. A neck donut or I think it's called neck protector these days. It goes inside or outside the head I think. I have it outside to lift up the head so the doll can have a neck and it's not swallowed up by her face! I'll make a post to show the photo of how I have mine. It works pretty well and does allow her a better range of head movement.

You know, I always think to myself, if I got Narsha Zihu then I could technically have child, teen and adult versions of Helena (MYD Heeah being the teen version and this girl being the adult version). It's a very tempting idea save for the fact that I actually want my MYD Heeah as the blind seer with pale blonde hair!

  6. That body looks like a perfect fit!

I love the angle of that first photo you used here - it gives her expression such a haunted look. It's lovely!

    1. The body is really great. I'm very much in love with it. I kind of wish I knew about these in between sizes earlier as I would have got my SD characters in this size instead. They feel easy to transport around too and aren't as heavy as the SDs.

This girl photographs so well, even blank!
