A Shade of Fantasy

Hoping everyone is enjoying their Easter break! I know I really needed this break. Work has been super busy and I'm still looking forward to when I can go back to my part-time hours again. I have so many things on the back burner right now.

Today, I took some quick snaps of some characters that will exist in a fantasy setting. I decided to try and pursue this theme as it's something I've always wanted to do but held off because of how hard it is to find fantasy outfits that also happen to fit within my budget. I may just have to see if I can cobble bits and pieces together.

This is Geraint, my DZ Cosmo who doesn't get an awful lot of photo time as he exists as a floating head for a lot of the time. I initially designed him to be a scholar who opened the wrong book and ended up infused with the soul of a dead sorcerer. Of course, this ends up giving him abilities he wouldn't otherwise have and also changes his personality a bit. He also happens to have memories of people, places and events that belonged to the sorcerer. Although as time goes by, it is harder and harder to distinguish where Geraint begins and Malek ends. The two souls have essentially merged and become one soul. So who truly gazes out of those eyes? Geraint? Malek? Or a being that is both and neither? Something wholly new ...

Illyana I've posted about many times. She's also been a Spellweaver in her many incarnations. This time, she has lived a very sheltered life on the Misty Isles but has been trained to survive outside its walls. Which is what happens when a precious relic of the Alvion Sisterhood is stolen and taken to the Outside world. It falls to her to go after it and retrieve it before the boundary that protects the Isles completely vanishes and the Vanon King invades in full force.

That's it for today. Enjoy the Easter break.

  1. Beautiful photos! I like Geraint, old DZ heads have really nice sculpt. You should show him more often :) And his story reminded me of Motoko Kusanagi merged with Puppet Master. Illyana's story is also fascinating. Her eyes make her look like a child and adult at the same time.
    Have a great weekend!

    1. I miss a lot of the older DZ sculpts. You don't really see them around anymore, even the owner photos. I think their newer sculpts are similar to their sister company Doll Chateau now. I only have Cosmo and Hid of the older sculpts.

I will have to google Motoko Kusanagi and Puppet Master. I haven't heard of those. Are they anime?

Illyana has had so many eye changes. I've finally found the one I like in her.

Weekends go by way too fast! Back to the work grind tomorrow.

    2. Motoko Kusanagi is the main heroine of Ghost in the Shell manga and anime. From the newer DZ heads I like Gray but the rest is indeed much alike DC.

    3. Ah that's right. I had forgot. I even have the Ghost in the Shell movie anime. Although it always confused me when I last watched it but that's going on several years ago now.

Didn't DZ discontinue a bunch of their old sculpts too... it feels like they are changing directions with their sculpting aligning with DC sculpting.

  2. What a handsome doll Geraint is! Illyana is beautiful too! Their stories are fascinating, I like your imagination to bring these dolls to life :-).
    Happy Easter weekend!

    1. Thank you. I like to write short stories and I have to admit my favourite genre is high fantasy so I do tend to write more stories in that vein but Urban Fantasy is a second favourite genre.

I've been in love with the Cosmo (Geraint) head sculpt since I laid eyes on him many years ago. I'm glad I was able to get his head at least before he was discontinued!

  3. Hi Alasse!
I love that first photo you took of Geraint, it has a very mysterious look to it, makes me wonder what he's thinking about. The last photo is good too, I really like the effect you used, looks like a bullet hole when you study it, but I gather she's about to put her hand through the protective boundary.
Hope you are enjoying your Easter downtime.
    Big hugs,
    X

    1. I'm just glad I finally decided to go back to my fantasy roots at least for a few dolls. Not all of them because that would totally break my wallet if I had to clothe everyone in fantasy gear! I'm just waiting on Jamal's fantasy outfit now and Amaryll's fantasy outfit to arrive in the next week or two.

Easter went by way too fast. I can't believe it's back to work tomorrow although depending on what happens with this cyclone that may develop in the next day or two, I may get some unplanned days off! Although I doubt it.

  4. I love that first photo with the hood. There's something about that angle that adds a little mystery to it. :)

    1. I love cloaks. I'm happy I am finally able to use this one for a character as it was made for me by a good friend.

    1. What are you doing up? You should be sleeping! Thank you for the kind words on the photos and stories. I've always wanted to do a story where two souls fought for control of a single body.
