Impldoll Box Opening

Wow, it's been a long time since I've done a box opening like this. As the regular readers of this blog will already be aware, my bjd collecting rate has decreased quite a bit in recent years. I've bought the random body and head here and there but not a full doll from a company in a while.

Having said that, this particular doll (or dolls) is actually a combined Christmas and Birthday present from my very supportive husband. I ordered them on the 30th November 2017 and they arrived today. Of course by the time I finished work, picked them up from the post office and got home, I was losing light fast. But I just had to take box opening photos on the actual day they got here.

When I ordered the dolls, Impldoll were having an event and because I qualified for one of the event gifts (a free 'baby' doll) I ended up with two dolls in this box.

A year or two ago, I talked a little about dolls that 'got away' and I mentioned Impldolls (then limited edition) Christopher in gray skin. This was going back to about 2010. I remember because she was among the first dolls I considered as my second bjd purchase. By the time I made a decision to get her, she had already been listed as sold out. I remember being incredibly disappointed. I also had to try and save for her which added to the delay.

So I took that as a lesson not to procrastinate too long on limited dolls. It was also one of the reasons I never really paid too much attention to any limited doll thereafter. I didn't want to get burned again. Fast forward to November 2017 when I was talking to my husband about the dolls I regretted not getting when I had the chance to. He offered to buy me a doll as a combined Christmas/Birthday present so I was browsing around and saw a normal skin Christopher on the Alice Collection site under the Impldoll company. Intrigued, I emailed Impldoll directly and asked if this sculpt was still being offered as they didn't have it on the actual company site. I was told yes, I could still order her but she was more of a custom order as the one on Alice Collection just came with the new Star body which I didn't want. I wanted the original Star body I saw her on back in 2010 (which luckily they still offered as an option on their website.) Long story short, I emailed through my custom Christopher order directly to Impldoll and the rest as they say is history. Of course the face up in the promo photo above was a limited face up and I just got the normal default on her which is lovely.

Massive long box. Christopher is 65cm after all. I didn't take a full photo of it because it's just a standard brown box with the logo on it.

Really well packed and protected during shipping.

Awesome book of dolls by the company. While I love their new sculpting style, I really love their older sculpting style more because I feel the older dolls had a uniqueness about them that perked my interest.

A little hint of the dolls inside.

My free event doll was Baby Doll Gela. I've had my eye on her since she was released years ago. I don't know why I waited. I think mostly because back then, there weren't a lot of owner photos of her. She normally comes on the hooves as she's a fantasy doll but I requested she come on the human body. I didn't expect to also get the fantasy parts which was a bonus! I can practice painting the hooves.

These dolls came with glass eyes which was fantastic. They were nice colours too, blue and grey. The eyelashes were taped on not glued on so I love that they did that in case someone wanted to position the eyelashes themselves. I will have to glue them on my dolls. Not sure how to do it so I will have to visit Youtube for tutorials.

The main event. I love Impldoll face ups. It's very delicate and lovely. You can't really see here but the eyebrows are just done so fine. She also came with heeled feet.

So before I go on to showcase more photos, I have to say that I really found the experience of dealing with Impldoll quite smooth and friendly. My emails were answered very quickly, within a day but most times, within 10-20 minutes! They shipped when they said they expected to ship which was fine by me. The dolls took roughly three and a bit months to produce and ship out to me. But I did have two dolls and both had face ups and one was gray skin so I took those factors into account. I know some other people on DOA have had dolls in a month or a bit over a month but I think those ones were blank.

I love the quality of my dolls. The resin is beautiful and smooth and photographs matte which I like. They stand right out of the box, no restringing necessary. Some people may not like how tightly they are strung but for someone like me who actually likes my dolls tight, the stringing was on point.

The dolls are sanded and I don't see any sanding marks, even on my grey skin doll which is nice not that seams bother me at all. If a doll comes to me with seams sanded off, I consider that a bonus.

Overall, I am extremely happy and think the wait was worth it. I love my girls.

On to the photos...

So the Baby Doll is actually a smidge smaller than a Yo-SD. I love the size a lot. However, plans for her to wear all those 6-7inch wigs that my other Yo-SDs wear fell out the window because her head is smaller. Not enough to fit into a 5-6inch wig and 6-7inch is a bit big on her. This wig continually falls off her head. So maybe a 6inch but there aren't many wigs in that size around. Ack. Lucky she's so pretty.

This is Eolande. She's one of my Ancients. An immortal being that walks the earth.

When I showed my husband this girl, he said she reminded him of a gray skin Galadriel. Then I remembered that scene from Lord of the Rings when she gets tempted by the One Ring and thought that was pretty spot on!

I'm calling her the Lady Amaryll. I'm still working on her back story.

And what's a photo session without a selfie.

I also have a resin head on the way. This year seems to be the year of the resin!

Have a great weekend!

  1. What a lovely new member of your crew! Actually, two members. :)
Your husband is right - she really resembles Galadriel. And the tiny girl is so cute. ^^ And only 3 months of waiting! Wow, that's super fast. I've waited for 13 months to get my DZ boy. -_-; Have a nice weekend.

    1. I think she turned out unexpectedly great looking so similar to Galadriel as I had wanted a Galadriel doll and about a month after I ordered her, I wondered if I should have got her in the normal skin instead of grey so I could make her into Galadriel type elf. But I have always wanted a grey skin doll so it works out better. I had a grey Resinsoul ages ago but their gray was a bit dark for me. This one looks great. I have to see how it looks in natural light.

You know what's crazy? This wait felt like forever to me even though it was just a bit over three months and yet when I order my Integrity dolls, they usually take anywhere from 6-12 months before they arrive and that wait is absolutely fine with me. So I don't know why it's so different with bjds for me.

Ah Dollzone and Doll Chateau. I love their dolls but the wait time is just massive. When I ordered my DZ Hid (through DenverDoll at the time), I had read the wait was something like 6 months or more and I was a bit worried but as he was my almost first bjd ever doll, I wanted to get him anyway. I lucked out as he came to me only after 3 months!

I had a similar issue when I ordered my Dollshe boy. I had read about the 12 month+ long waits but they were having a discount sale and the price point was just too good to pass up so I ordered anyway knowing it'd be a while. But mine came just after 3 months and I think I was very lucky as there were people who ordered before me that hadn't got theirs and they had been waiting longer than me.

I sometimes wonder how the order system works for some companies as it seems like the production doesn't go in the order it was received (Dollshe).

      Enjoy your weekend too!

    2. Yes, the companies' service is a mystery. My friend ordered a carrier bag from DZ and she waited 10 months for it. And when she finally got it, it turned out to be a different type of bag, not the one she ordered. Totally crazy! I ordered jointed hands for my DZ boy and I promised myself it's the last thing I've bought from DZ. I placed an order in December and I was relieved the hands were shipped this month. I just hope I get the right product.

  2. Great choices there Alasse! I also have Gela, but in white, and I have used the hooves on mine. She is an Ice Troll called Tempest.

I love your grey elf and the face-up you received is much more suitable for a girl. I have found Impldoll great to deal with, they threw in a free head for me to compensate for a delay in delivery.

    Hugs,

    1. Do you find the hooves easy to attach?

Gela is a gorgeous doll. I've wanted her for a while so I'm happy I finally got her. I do adore her petite size. I thought she'd be more chunky but actually my Yo-SD girls are a bit chunkier than her! She is just a perfect fit to hold in your hand too.

Impldoll are really nice to deal with. And they're dolls I feel are solid dolls. They're just amazing quality for the price point. I'm now eyeballing Giden and Lucien. I can't order anything anyway until November again (depending how much I spend on Integrity dolls!) but they're both unusual dolls that caught my eye. The free doll gift event was really generous of Impldoll. Not many companies do that. There is usually just a free head event but not a full doll. It was dependent on how much your order came to before shipping but it was still great.

I just have to apply the eyelashes today. And I definitely have to change Gela's O-Ring at some point. I can't take off her head at the moment so placing eyes is very tricky. Christopher has a C-Ring which I really like as it's not completely solid so you can still remove it without having to un-string the entire doll like Gela.

  3. Oh, wow - she is a beauty and I agree with your husband, the doll looks a lot like Galadriel.
And the little one, such a wonderful gift. Congrats!

    1. Thank you. I finally have my grey skin elf. That has been on the bjd wish list for a while now. I had a Song from Resinsoul but he was dark grey skin which ended up being too dark for me. I also had a Withdoll Elf Fenrir but because of the bad experience I had with the company, I'm afraid the doll ended up being sold off because it just really coloured my enjoyment of the doll. A shame as it was a nice sculpt.

I'm just glad I was able to get the original grey skin elf that inspired all the others!
