I must sound like a broken record now but I have been working quite a bit lately so I haven't really been around. Hopefully, I will be back to normal soon.
Today gave me the chance to do just that by cleaning the craft room which has been in a state of chaos for a month or two now or whenever my last free time was. I find, when my craft space is a chaotic mess and not the organised chaos kind, my motivation and inspiration suffers. Now that it is tidy again, maybe I can start on some projects soon.
Whilst I was tidying things up, I took the opportunity to play around a little with my Dollshe Saint. For a while now, his character name just hasn't really meshed with me so I recently tweaked him (yes I know, tweaking my dolls is an absolute obsession with me). Whilst playing around with him, I discovered sadly that the small ball joint that connects his hand to his wrist is cracked in two places. Ack. And of course I can't buy replacements as Dollshe don't sell the Rhythmos body anymore. So ...he might be getting some jointed hands at some point.
He's always been a bit of a tricky one when it comes to wigs. I've had him in mostly short boyish wigs but they've never really been quite right. And his name has always kind of been a bit 'meh' to me. So I decided to try out Amaryll's wig style on him and ... I love it. He's now totally an 'Alden'. He deserves a fancy name with his new look. As this is Amaryll's wig, I did order him a new one. I wanted a more blonde colour anyway for him and this wig is white. I used to have two Saints and my last one had long hair so I don't know why I never thought to try it with this one.
He looks quite aristocratic now which is what I was going for. I haven't changed his character though. He's still a former solider who lost his twin brother during the War of Ashes. It's been eight years since that happened so he's let his hair grow longer making him look much more like his brother. He used to be the one sporting the short hair look and his brother wore his hair longer. He's still quite the damaged character who needs the loving arms of a good woman to heal his wounds. (ahem Deirdre).
I do think the longer hair makes him look older too and has aged him compared to his younger, pre-War self below.
And no blog post is complete without my angelic immortal, Belarus. My vain, beautiful immortal who likes all things of beauty.
I found a pair of earrings that I converted into a necklace to complete the outfit for Belarus. I really love how it compliments his whole look and style. He is all about extravagance and elegance.
When I got Amaryll's gorgeous outfit, I discovered it was missing the belt which was one of my favourite parts of the outfit so I emailed Impldoll about it. They did send out the belt (a month later) as it had to be made. I think maybe it was forgotten originally. The parcel arrived this past week and I was surprised to find not only the belt but this little head inside the parcel. An apology gift from Impldoll for the wait. I was definitely surprised by the gift and it did a lot to cement the company's customer service in my books. I think I will paint him. He does match my Bluefairy resin quite nicely but I think he'll be a floating head for a while. He has nice little fangs too and such a cheeky grin.
Still on the subject of floating heads, it's easy to say, "Oh Cosmo can share the Soom body with Epidos" however, I have a hard time swapping out the Epidos head on the Soom body because well, look at him. So right now, I am window shopping for a body for Cosmo. It's going to be tricky as Cosmo is a 2010 head which has yellowed and I will be buying a brand new body so ... resin match may not be 100%. Cosmo really deserves his own body anyway as his story is quite interesting and I really want to write it. The problem is the head has a really small neck hole but the head itself screams for a more buff type body. I've tried him on my AOD 62cm boy body and his head looks a little bobble headed because the shoulders aren't wide enough to balance that head out. Someone also kindly tried him on an Impldoll old FGB 65cm body and it looks okay but I still feel it's too lean for his face. His head kind of fit the Soom body which has a neck of 11cm. A 10.5 cm neck would be better. It's a shame Dollzone didn't just archive his body on their site so I could check out the body measurements instead of removing it completely from the site. Ack.
I also got my Shiva head (MH Ghoulia) back from the face up artist this past week. I will have to take a photo. Sadly I ran out of daylight today so I will post photos of her later. I think with her, I may 're-interpret' Shiva rather than recreate her exactly from the game. I'll stay close to the character but maybe deviate a little with the outfit.
That's all the update for today. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!
First photos reminds me of one of the Targaryens. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou have wonderful dolls.
Thank you for visiting the blog. I do sometimes think I have too big of a collection!
DeleteKeeping it tidy and nice are always a plus, but sometimes I work better in an organized chaos - I know were things are and do not need to search for them. :D
ReplyDeleteOh, sad with the ball joint being cracked in two places! As long as it does not just crack all the way and drop of, it can work. Hope that you can find some jointed hands that suit.
That long white wig just does it, right? It is a big change and as you wrote, he looks very aristocratic, older and more urbane! And Belarus, such a handsome one!
What a surprise to receive a doll head like that - such a happy face and what a grin! Wonder what he is up to! :D
Look forward to seeing your Shiva head.
Happy weekend!
I am going to try and glue the cracks together and hope that holds for a bit. I have seen a few hands, both jointed and non-jointed that could work for the body, it's just a matter of resin matching which is always a pain.
DeleteThe long hair really does go well with that face I think. Even if Saint is a very grumpy face!
I was surprised to find the head in there. Not sure what I will do with it though. I will just have to see. Hope you had a good weekend!
Actually Dollshe sculpts are not exactly my type. But I like how the owners style their dolls. And I agree, Saint is meant to have long hair. I would give him a bit wavy hair. He has such aristocratic features. His face has the potential. I like the faceups by Rugged Realism or Pepstar. As for the cracks, do you think they can be secured with resin sold in craft shops or something? But giving him a new pair of hands is probably better option.
ReplyDeleteThe apology gift is a really sweet gesture. Haha, the grin made me think of Ed from Cowboy Bebop. Oh, poor Cosmo, looking for a proper body can be a real pain. Have you considered Charm Doll 71 cm body?
Shiva tickled my fancy. :) I'm looking forward to seeing photos of her.
I have a blonde wavy wig on order for me. I'm hoping it looks like it does on the wig photos but we'll see. His face reminds me of faces from the classic era.
DeleteI could try that but I did find some jointed hands that are coming out that will work for him I think. I could try gluing the bits together as I checked today and the crack has completely split through the resin in two places. It's only holding in there right now because the hand part is pushed up against the small ball joint. It's amazing really as I rarely play around with my Saint at all. Maybe the resin was just weak in that area too.
Oh I hadn't thought of the Charm Doll body. I will have to have a bit of a look and see what it's like. I really would love to make him whole but I'm really not liking the chances of that.
I'm hoping to take a photo of Shiva at some point. Just have not had a lot of time lately.
