The Post-Christmas Post

First, I would like to thank everyone for their good wishes for Christmas in my previous post. I hope you all had a wonderful day with those you were able to spend it with. Mine was busy as always with lunch at the in-laws and dinner at my Dad's. I felt like all I was doing was eating all day!

I wanted to share some Christmas photos I took that I never got a chance to post about. The lead up to the big day was pretty crazy here.

I did get an early Christmas present from my husband in the form of Gigi Hadid. He kindly let me open it up before Christmas day so I was at least able to 'play' with her a bit.

Sidenote: I have no idea who this Barbie's inspiration is at all. I just really liked her face sculpt and the fact that she is the petite size so she's smaller than my other girls.

This is what she came in originally. Even though she was covered in plastic, when I did remove that sweater, the plastic had not reached far enough to cover her hands so unfortunately, there were some dark stains on her hands. I don't know why her hands weren't also covered as the sweater sleeves end well pass her hand length.

Her first redress. Something a bit casual and summery.

The weekend before Christmas, hubby and I decided to drive around and look at all the houses decorated with gorgeous Christmas lights. First stop was the in-laws who always go all out every year. I decided to take Gigi along for the ride. {I actually decided to rename her Gina}.  The following photos were taken with my phone camera as I didn't feel like hauling the big one around.

I really love how this one turned out.

In-laws house, well at least the front of it. Gina is posing in the front yard.

The sea-saw lights they have every year. Those who saw last year's photos will no doubt recognise them.

This was all hubby. He decided to play around with her and pose her on the sea-saw. He can never resist doing this to my dolls every year. They all get to ride this thing.

This is a Doctor Who Adventure doll, pretty much a figure that can pose and wear real clothing. She's really neat and a huge surprise for me as I was not expecting her. This was from the in-laws. Apparently, they had put the Doctor Who Barbie on pre-order for me (without me knowing) and I told them I had pre-ordered her a few days later (because I was excited about it) so they had to go back and see if they could change the order to something else. Luckily the store let them choose something else instead. This figure is pretty darn cool. I will have to take a photo of her next to my Barbie Doctor Who.

I did a heap more but some didn't turn out. I was using my phone camera which isn't always the best device to use for photos but it's just easier than hauling my big camera around everywhere sometimes.

I'm working on another post at the moment, this one will introduce a few revamped characters since the BJD world got a bit of a makeover. I have updated the BJD Crew page already to reflect the changes. I was doing some test shots and "character voices" just to test how I want to set up the scene when I actually do it. But first, I need to make a very white, very clinical cell...with bars. I'm thinking of just making a corner room with some foam board and a ceiling and maybe paint some rounded wood columns with my metallic paints to get that steel bar look. Lots to plan.

In the meantime, see you all in a couple of days with a New Year's post, hopefully.

I'll end with a music video theme song for the upcoming BJD introduction story post ...

  1. Great lights Alasse. 😊 We took a little drive around our estate on our way home from dinner at the club a few days ago to look at all the lights, I love how people decorate their houses. Never think to take photos though. 😕

That Dr.Who looks quite big, I was wondering how tall?
    Happy New Year!
    Big hugs,

    1. Happy New Year too! I have to work New Year's Eve and the day after New Year's Day. Sadly couldn't get out of it this year. Hopefully next year ....

It was hard to take any decent photos because there were a lot of people walking around the streets looking at the lights. And we were in the car so could never get a clear shot sadly. There was some amazing lights though. It was pretty busy the night we went. We got stuck in one street for 20 minutes crawling inch by inch. Normally it takes less than 5 minutes to drive down that street! But there were so many cars bumper to bumper that night. And people walking around on that street too.

That doll is actually a little shorter than my Doctor Who Barbie. I think she looks bigger because she has more mass I guess, more plastic, wider ... I'm not sure the word I am looking for there. Barbie is more slender and delicate. I think she also looks big because hubby was holding her up when I took the photo to make it look kind of like she was in proportion to the tree which is life size!!

  2. I thought Gigi Hadid is a famous model but apparently she is not that famous. ;) Her headmold is really nice and she resembles the model pretty much. However I prefer Natalia Vodianova Barbie. But I don't like Heidi Klum Barbie.
The photos with Christmas lights are very picturesque. I love the bokeh effect. And Doctor Who doll looks interesting. I guess she is fully articulated.

    1. I've never heard of her until I got the Barbie and even then I don't recognise her at all, but that could be because I don't keep up with a lot of stuff in the media. I will have to look up that Natalia Barbie. I vaguely remember hearing about the Heidi Klum Barbie but can't remember what it looks like. You know, I never knew what bokeh was for the longest time. I always wondered what people were talking about when they used that word.

Doctor Who is fully articulated except for her head strangely even though it looks like it is articulated or maybe I haven't pushed it hard enough. I don't want to break it so I haven't really tried that head joint very much!

    1. Hope you had a great Christmas Day Irene! I was not very organised at all this Christmas. I hope to be better organised in 2019!

I find these "special edition" Barbies are always better made than the playline which is good given their higher price point!

  4. Gina looks lovely, I like her a lot after redressing. She looks so natural. Great gift! :)

And the Doctor Who figure is also really great. Your in-laws care about you and your hobby. That's wonderful.

    Love the lights. :)

Can't wait for your bjd post. :)

    1. I like the sweater she comes with but ... I don't really see any of my other girls wearing it particularly as I know now that it stains!

They know about my hobbies so it's good they got something they know I like. I am still exploring her posing ability.

I'm hoping to get it up next week sometime after the New Year.

  5. I loved the photos, and how great is that they know and support your hobby enough to gift you a doll :)

    1. It is pretty great that they do that. My Dad always rolls his eyes at me when I talk about my doll hobby. But then again, he doesn't really have any hobby like that himself so he most likely just doesn't understand.

  6. Gina is such a cute girl and has lovely hair! And I absolutely love the Christmas decorations. That reminds me, that I had to take a stroll around neighbourhood to watch the decorations and lights here too :). I can't wait for your new BJD project!

    1. It's always nice to see all the lights and the effort people go to during the Christmas season. Gina is a really lovely Barbie. Shame she doesn't have the MTM body though. That would have been the icing on the cake. Given her price point was the same as Doctor Who Barbie who does come with an MTM body, I was kind of surprised Gina's body didn't. It has joints in the elbow and knee at least but still ....

I really want to make a diorama for the bjd project this year. It's just storage being a major issue at the moment so I have to kind of make do with what I have that can also be easily taken down and stored flat.

  7. Wonderful photos! And great that your hubby enjoys it almost as much as you! :) I think it is amazing with the support. My hubby gives me tips on places to take photos at and holds the dolls while I fix things. :)

    1. My hubby holds the dolls too for me but he grumbles about it. He does it anyway. It is nice but I also think it's because he also has a collecting hobby so he understands.

  8. Happy New Year Alasse, and I hope you had a great Christmas. Your Barbie is very pretty, and I enjoyed the photos of her with all the lovely lights!
And Congratulations on the new girl, I immediately recognised the Dr Who actress in this doll :)

    1. Happy New Year to you too! Hope 2019 is kind to you!

I must google about Adventure Dolls as I have never really seen them before ... unless those Star Wars ones were Adventure Dolls too ...
