Ever had that one doll that is so hard to wig? That happens to be Arianna for me. I am trying out a new wig for her. I'm also moving her character from the Urban Fantasy story to my Fantasy story. She is still keeping a similar role though.
The newest member to the Fantasy story is Arianna, an Elyder Wytch. Their kind was once among the most prominent in the realm but they were mostly wiped out during the Wytch wars when the persecution of Wytches reached its peak thanks to the Mages who incited the persecutions declaring the Wytches innate magical abilities did not come from the divine but from the realm of demons.
A handful escaped the war and went into hiding, careful to keep their powers a secret. Some of the citizens believed that the Mages were jealous of the Wytches and their innate wild magic which allowed them to easily command magic and the elements.
Mages on the other hand weren't born with innate magic. It took years of intense study at the Academy, discipline and focus to attain the principles and capabilities of harnessing the external source of magic and bend it to their will. And unlike the Wytches, once a Mage was able to harness the magic and use it, the sheer energy it took would render them useless and spent afterwards requiring a few hours to days of rest to replenish depending on the type and strength of magic wielded. The Mages were also colour coded depending on their disciplines. White for Healing, Red for offensive magic, Green for defensive magic, Black for manipulation magic. Mages just didn't have the capability or energy to spread them across all disciplines and therefore they could only master one of them.
Wytches on the other hand could perform any type and strength of magic. They didn't tire easily after its use and had a seemingly endless supply of it at their beck and call. They were also at one with the natural environment and had the ability to communicate with any type of animal. They were feared by the Mages but it was also feared that they would join the Lord of Shadows when he reappeared in the mortal plane. The Mages decided it was better to wipe them out before this happened.
Side Note: The 'Bandrui' (Druids) are actually descended from the Elyder Wytches which would make Deirdre Quinn a descendant of Arianna's bloodline. Just a bit of random fact to tie in the Fantasy story which happens roughly 1, 000 years prior to my Urban-Fantasy story. Another little fact, Wytch power tends to run strongest through the female line than the male line. In fact, it is very rare for male offspring to actually have these powers. They may be able to communicate with animals but that's the extent of their abilities. There has only ever been one male offspring who has been born with all the powers of an Elyder Wytch but they rarely speak of him because he became the First Lord of Shadows and was responsible for appearing again every few centuries.
Arianna keeps to herself and lives in the forest surrounding Farnworth. She keeps a magical barrier around her home to prevent people from straying too close and discovering her, however Ailsa was able to break through the barrier and the two became fast friends.
During the raid on Farnworth, Arianna arrived too late to protect most of the villagers however, she managed to protect Ailsa from being slaughtered and disguised herself as a villager, allowing herself to be taken prisoner along with Ailsa in order to continue to watch over her.
She hasn't got her official outfit yet but I'm working on that.
She's very pretty and this wig looks good on her, the colour is very nice with her skin tone.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean though, I have dolls that I've really struggled with wigging but finally, one day, it suddenly all comes together!
xx
I wasn't sure about the colour and eye combination but somehow, I think it works which is great as I think the slightly wild look to the hair fits her.
DeleteArianna looks really nice in that wig. And I like her crochet cape.
ReplyDeleteYeah, finding a proper wig isn't easy. I have a similar problem with my boys' eyes.
Eyes and Wigs I think are the hardest to get right for dolls. I can't even imagine how much I have spent on both just trying to hit the jackpot for all the characters!
DeleteI think you found perfect wig for her. It matches her eyes. And of course I love the story.
ReplyDeleteI love that her new wig makes her eyes really pop.
DeleteHi ALasse,
ReplyDeleteWigs are often a big problem for me, I have bought what I thought would be the right wig for a doll, only to find the opposite. Usually several wigs later the right one turns up. I really should try on what I already have before making a purchase though, then I wouldn't end up with more wigs than I have heads! LOL!
I do like this one on Arianna, it suits he complexion beautifully and emphasises her lips and eyes.
The story is coming along nicely too, now I wonder if you will ever turn it into a book?
Big hugs,
X
I hate to think how much in total I spend on wigs. I have so many in my stash right now that I have never used as they looked good on the model but when they arrive here and I try it on the doll, I didn't like it! I think that's why I love the fashion dolls like IT. No need to worry about hair or eyes! Just concentrate on photos and clothes!
DeleteMaybe one day. I love the story too. It took me by surprise as I lot of it just kind of came to me like random scenes come to me in my head and not necessarily for this story but many others I have yet to write!
A beautiful doll with great story to accompany her! Yes, I'm absolutely sure, that the roots of persecutions were the envy and fear - a truly devilish combination.
ReplyDeleteI also think that this wig fits Arianna perfectly. I have the same problem with Fan Tien - there are only two wigs he can wear and not look strange in them. I'm working on a third ;)
Envy and Fear of the unknown are always such big instigators of persecution through out history. Humans have such a horrible history of that and many other atrocities.
DeleteI am sure you will find just the right one for Fan Tien!
The struggle is real when it comes to wigs! I think this one suits her very well! Her story is intriguing!
ReplyDeleteI really love this wig on her too although I wasn't sure at first but the more I look at it, the more I realise it matches her rather wild personality and nature.
