The Embrace of Power

I don't have much free time this week as I am working extra shifts due to staff being away but I was browsing and listening to music as I tend to do most nights before bed when I remembered a song I had heard not so long ago from the live action movie, 'Aladdin'.

As I was listening to the lyrics, I realised this song was the perfect song to encapsulate Mahalia, a woman forced into a role she didn't want but somehow grew into that role to become more powerful than she began it with.

I decided to do a photo manipulation of her showing her two sides and the transitioning between them. I used only textures to achieve this effect. I will link to the texture creator at the end of this post if anyone was curious.

Mahalia's Character Theme Song:

Speechless by Naomi Scott

**Made using textures from Sirius-sdz at deviantART.

"Why do you show surprise? You made me after all with your deceit and coldness, with your words that cut and the hatred you bring. Who did you think I would become if not another version of you, a better version of you. It's strange isn't it? You built me to be your doom and now you want to destroy me? Your apprentice has outgrown you old man. And I will seek my vengeance."

  1. Mahalia really looks like a powerful queen and brave woman. It's a good idea to illustrate a character with a song.
I hope the spreading of coronavirus stops soon. There are some sick people here in PL but I don't panic.
    Take care.

    1. I love finding theme songs for my characters which is why you will see me link to a lot of sings - I pick theme songs even for specific scenes. I feel it helps to convey the vibe/atmosphere I feel when I write those scenes or characters.

Me too. It is affecting so many lives in such a short time. Stay safe and well!

    1. Yes, it definitely is her song isn't it? I could actually see her singing it. Oh my gosh, a fantasy musical number. Reminds me of Galavant!

    1. I had a lot of fun doing this manipulation. I really wanted to show that two different side of her - the side that has to put aside her feelings and fears and doubts and the more vulnerable side that is truer to her character.

    1. I love theme songs for characters, it helps me to convey the mood of a particular character although to be honest, I can get really sidetracked looking for the perfect song!!
