The Caged Seer

Today's photo subject is Serilda, my Caged Seer. I feel that she needs a more elaborate wig style so I will have a look at something a bit more in line with what I am wanting. This wig is nice but the fibres are so silky that it is hard to control.

I don't seem to take a lot of photos of her. She's not the best poser (she's single jointed) but she is pretty. She is a MyDolling Heeah. She was the first of my dolls to wear this style of costume. I had originally got her to be the Yuki-Onna, a spirit from Japanese folk lore. I've always had a fascination with this particular folk lore. If I can get a second head of this sculpt for this body but have her with painted red lips and a more evil expression, I will have my Yuki-onna. But this version at least is taking the role of my Caged Seer.

Her story is one of the more tragic I feel in the story. She was born blind yet that never really affected her that much because she had the love of her parents. She lived a happy life in her early years until at the tender age of seven, she began to experience visions. Those visions sometimes made her faint and she could be unconscious from them for days. Word of her abilities reached Emperor Mafar and his Red Cabal. Determined to own this rare treasure, his guards forcefully took her from her parents. They protested against the Emperor's actions and were put to death as traitors to the Empire.
Serilda was locked inside the Black Tower, there to wait on the Emperor when he had need of her visions. Only the Emperor held the keys to her prison. It was believed that she must remain untouched and pure for the visions to remain as her gift.

Later after the Emperor's death, the keys to the Black Tower passed down to Empress Mahalia. Feeling sorry for the girl who had been kept isolated for most of her young life, Mahalia allowed her son Ydros to visit with the young girl under the supervision of Master Teo. These have been the only contact that Serilda has known since she had been separated from her parents.

It's interesting to note that Ydros regrets that he couldn't take Serilda with him when he escaped the palace. The Black Tower is too heavily guarded by both the palace guards and members of the Red Cabal. But Serilda had already seen his escape in her visions but chose to keep silent about it to the Empress. I guess it's her small revenge for her captivity.
