Finally, the vision has been made reality. This is how I've always pictured Astrid in all her Queenly glory. A modest Queen not given to displaying her wealth or royalty but proud of her clan heritage and in tune with the earth beneath her feet and the sky above her head. She embodies the protectiveness and nurturing will of the Mother Goddess.
I finished Astrid's outfit yesterday but it was late at night so I didn't want to take photos until today. She is wearing a similar dress to the green vine ones in terms of pattern and design but in a lighter, more neutral colour. She wears a plain surcoat over the dress coupled with a simple silver necklace and a modestly designed bronze crown. Her hair is the colour of fire, her eyes the blue of the sea.

The surcoat is my own pattern after some research into their shape. I made it a little bigger on her so it would pool around her as she walked. As you can see, the sides are not closed but left open. She doesn't need shoes as you can't see her feet anyway but I am planning on making her shoes and a medieval style hose that she will wear beneath her dress.
I am really happy with how she is looking now plus has clothes made for her specific body size (she's 52-54cm tall). But just her overall look with the jewellery pieces, the hair style - it's how I imagined her as the Western Queen - in touch with the land and modest with her fashion. She's a stark contrast to Amaryll who is more showy in her fashion choices.
That's it for now. Enjoy the coming weekend!
She looks fantastic in this outfit! Very Irish. :) She's definitely the queen who is close to her people and who takes part in a battle instead of giving orders from distance. I wonder what she would look like with green eyes.
ReplyDeleteI'm really happy she gives off an Irish vibe. She really reminds me of those types of ancient Queens. And you're absolutely spot on - she doesn't shy away from battle. I do have an idea for her battle outfit as well but it'll be a bit of trial and error I think. She looks okay with green eyes, they were the first colour I tried on her when I got this wig but I prefer the blue on her with this colour. The green eyes I tried felt flat to me but these blue eyes have a lot of little details that make them more interesting. Besides, I have to be careful to not have all my dolls with red hair and green eyes. I've caught myself doing that sometimes as it's my favourite colour combination!
DeleteAgain - I love both the outfit and the music. It's perfect! And Astrid is one of those rulers, who are close to their people, they lead them, not only rule, they understand the joys and the sorrows of their people, not close themselves in their palaces or castles. Her clothes are practical, but still regal and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI didn't want her outfit to be too - rich looking. I really wanted her to be a Queen who was humble but also knew that she had the power only because she had the hearts of the people. I think Astrid and the King of Tallanon would have a lot in common there. They both put the needs and safety of their people before their own interests.
DeleteI had a lot of fun making her outfit. It was enjoyable to finally see her becoming the Queen I've always seen her as in my head.
She really looks so regal and beautiful, but definitely not a showy queen. I love the outfit and the crown is perfect, as is her hair and eyes.

I'm adjusting her outfit a little. I like sewing clothes for this size. She's not quite and SD but also not an MSD. She's an in between size but got to say, it's one of my favourite sizes.
DeleteI love her look. As it was written above - she looks very royal even in simple gown. She is the true Queen, she doesn't need to show of with rich outfit.
ReplyDeleteI am working on another outer dress for her which I started three weeks ago before I came down with that horrid cold but haven't been able to get a chance to finish it yet. I'm having issues with the hemming the neckline so I'm trying to think of another way to do it without ruining it.
DeleteShe is looking amazing in her outfit!
ReplyDeleteWell done! :)
Thanks! It was very simple to make which suits my current level. Simple is good!
