Get Messy and Paint

I've been a bit busy putting together some 1/6 scale furniture I purchased a few months back. I just haven't had an opportunity to finish these off until recently so I decided to get in there and finish everything all at once which meant a few days of painting and gluing and sanding.

But I'm glad I did. I feel like I actually accomplished something during my holidays. I only have a week left of it and as per usual, I thought I would be spending it doing way more doll related things than actually happened. Helena is my beautiful model again for this.

First up is this wardrobe that I had put together months ago but never finished so I got in and painted it in a "Jade" colour. I painted the bar in metallic silver which works great. I just need to purchase some coat hangers for the wardrobe. The chair is new and I finished putting that together and painted it too. I still need to add a seat cushion but the major part is done.

The new daybed which can also act as a sofa. I really love this one - it was quick to put together. The painting took a bit longer though as there was an outside and an inside to paint (where I will store some cushions). I still need to make the seat cushion for this one too but that's okay.

Remember that park bench I put together so long ago now? I finally decided to paint it. I was just going to stain it but then I changed my mind and decided on doing something a bit more colourful because I love colour and lots of it. This took me a while to paint as I had to do between each slate and then because I did the arm parts a different colour, I had to go very very slow in those areas. Hubby said it was "interesting" and said he wouldn't imagine putting these two colours together. I told him that's the point. It's supposed to be a bit zany. My idea behind the colours was the sun in a blue sky.

This shows all the pieces I did. Including the little coffee table which started out as white but then I changed the colour to more of a pearl white. The stark white was just not doing it for me. I am going to the hardware store next week to get some stain paint and some thin wood. I want to make stackable walls and floors (for easy storage and easy to set up for photos) that actually look like painted walls. I have been building some colourful houses in the Sims 4 and really liked some of the colours I put together on the walls  so I want to make some of those walls for quick dioramas.

Hope everyone is having a good start to their weekend!

  1. You've collected very nice furniture and I like the colors. My 1/6 chests of drawers are also bright and colorful. I love how detailed your dioramas are. Helena and other girls are lucky to have such lovely rooms. :)

    1. I love lots of colour. I like the diorama to have that lived in so I like to scatter things around and give this feeling like they've just walked in after a hard day at work or that they've been collecting little things for their rooms for a while.

  2. I think you've done brilliantly with all of these, they're very nice and I like the colours you've chosen. I think the blue and yellow for the bench is perfect for summer days, a great combination.
    Well done!

    1. I really need to test drive that park bench outside in the garden with one of the dolls. I really love the two colours there. It's nice to get them all finished though. They had all been sitting there for a while and if I didn't do it when I thought of it, they might have sat there for even longer!

  3. Well I finally made it Alasse and I am very pleased to see your results! Love the idea of the sun and blue sky it makes me feel like summer has arrived at last!! :) The wardrobe is a perfect match for a little cardigan I have just finished knitting . . . it's a colour that is quite restful. BTW if you want to make it look like the daybed has drawers underneath, just glue on some beads for knobs . . . now I wonder what colour/s the cushion is going to be? BTW I never did get the park bench, now after seeing how lovely yours turned out, I'm thinking I should!
    Big hugs,
    X

    1. Thanks for the tip on the daybed drawers. I will have to see if I have any suitable beads to do that. I haven't decided on the cushions yet. I have a few upholstery fabrics but I'm thinking they may be too thick for the 1/6 scale. Oh the park bench I got from Hobbysearch in Japan ages ago. Not sure if they still have it or have sold out!

  4. Helena is lovely as always, and your new furniture looks fantastic! I love colors, but usually end with quite plain dioramas, because I'm not sure how to use and piece them together... I especially love the daybed, such a brilliant color! Looks really comfortable with cusions :)

    1. I just use the excuse the doll is "eclectic" when I throw random stuff together. I do love colour though. I'm just glad I managed to do that during my holidays because I doubt I will get any free time for the rest of the year!

  5. These furniture look so great! Love the colors, bright and sunny. The Swedish flag, by the way, has the two colors blue and yellow. Not in the same tone, though, and the colors are not for the sun and the sky but for the historical meaning to the royalty. The wardrobe is amazing!

    1. Oh wow is it really? Didn't think I did the Swedish flag colours but that's awesome! Now the problem is where to store the furniture until I use it for dioramas....

    1. Yes I know how you feel, I get like this. I will start something but not finish it for months. I have dresses still to sew for my dolls but haven't got back to sewing again. Will have to make sure I don't leave it for 3 years like last time!!

    1. I love the colour on the daybed too. This is possibly my favourite colour to use for furniture. It's just so bright and uplifting!
