Downtime

Inspiration is fickle. It comes as it will and there is no amount of forcing it to appear when it would rather stay hidden. And so, another length of time passes before I was able to post again. Despite my lack of inspiration when it comes to dolls, I have not been sitting idle. I have started sewing again and have been really enjoying sewing cloth dolls - something I have not done in a long while. But more on that later. For now, some photos of two of my dolls enjoying some down time after a busy week.

Once upon a time, before I entered the world of BJDs and 1/6 scale dolls, I had very little income - just enough for some fabric. I got into cloth doll making back in those days. I wandered away from them as back then, the doll trends tended towards a more country style.

These days, the more modern dolls are bright, colourful and different from the dolls of old I used to make. And this intrigued me. So I have been spending the past few weeks getting to know my sewing machine again to make these lovelies...

These three girls were inspired by different colours: Lemon, Apple and Lavender. I have given two of these away as gifts to dear friends and have kept only Lemon here. These dolls were a lot of fun to make, matching fabrics and putting them together. They are Pink Lemonade Dolls by Tessie Fay.

This doll is so unusual as it has different facial features and is double the size of the dolls pictured above. This is a BIG doll. Bigger than I normally associate with cloth dolls anyhow. But I adore the facial features. This doll was made using a tutorial called Jess Brown Style Rag Doll. I believe the original by Jess Brown is a style of heirloom doll. Obviously mine has bigger arms and legs and I designed both her hairstyle and dress myself. The hair is made from Fleece and completely handsewn. Rest of the doll I did on my machine.

I am working on my own cloth doll designs, one which I am currently calling, "Miss Button Head" and the other inspired by the Netflix show "Wednesday".

That's all for now. Happy dolling

I also try to get back to sewing. My dolls still have summer clothes and it's almost December!

    1. It is summer here right now but not a pleasant summer as the days have been so hot and clammy. I'm just hanging out for winter when the weather is warmer. Hope I can get back to sewing again soon.
