A quick post with some figure and doll photography.
I also wanted to showcase a Youtube video I came across called "Jerry Business: Little Toys, Big World" by SmugMug Films. It is a very short film about a toy photographer who does toy street photography. I love how creative and adventurous he gets with his photography. I also love his philosophy that if people like his work, that's great but if people don't that's okay too because he'll still keep doing it.
It's exactly how I feel. I'll keep doing this because I enjoy it and love it. Obviously I have been branching out past the dolls and entering the realm of toy and miniature photography these days. I like to mix it up and experiment. Plus, let's be honest, figures are so much easier to pose (and store) compared to big massive dolls!! And if they happen to fall during a photoshoot, the person taking the photo doesn't feel like their heart stopped from it. (Yes I am looking at you BJDs.)
Coraline, Coraline. I love this figure. I have two versions of her. They aren't the most "lux" figures but they are still pretty good at posing, plus I was super lucky to get them as they are hard to find.
My husband bought me the premium version of Bo-Katan from The Mandalorien as I had been feeling a bit stressed about my very slow recovery (and my daughter acting up big time for the past few days). He posed this figure and I happened to be passing by and took a quick snapshot. (He's a big, HUGE Star Wars geek fan.)
The last Momoko doll I bought. I never named her but she's been wearing this since she arrived. It looks good on her and I can't change her yet as I can't carry the containers with the doll clothes so she will have to make do until I can.

I love your Coraline! And as for D being a huge Star Wars fan, you can tell him he's not alone, hubby and I are too! LOL! Every time I see your Momoko I am tempted to buy one, and I really would like another Ruruko too, but I am being good right now and only buying diorama components (if you can call that being good).

I am a Star Wars Fan too but mostly The Mandalorien as I love that series. (Evidenced by all my recent SW Figure acquisitions!!). Surprisingly though am not a fan of Bobba Fett. Momoko dolls are so easy to acquire as they don't take up much space. They have really nice face painting too.

DeleteOh yes, photographing figures is much more stress less than photographing BJDs XD, and it's much easier to find a good spot, where nothing is obscuring the background (aka fence, neighbour's car, your own garage, house on the other side of the street...). Pure fun :)
ReplyDeleteI am really enjoying figure photography. As you said, easy to find a nice little corner of the yard and make it seem like they are in a jungle or an arid desert plus the fact they are hardy little things!
DeleteThe momokodolls are really nice, light too and easy to store and they can pose pretty well for having hinge style joints. I love Coraline. Need to rewatch it again.
ReplyDeleteI 'read' (listened) the book Coraline for not so long ago. Neil Gaiman read it so it was a fantastic time to just enjoy a good book. Love your Coraline doll. In a way it is true, that taking photos of figures are so much easier!
ReplyDeleteAnd less stress with figures. I am always worried my bjds will face plant and break something or chip their face up. I have much more fun taking photos of my figures, Barbies, IT dolls, my vinyl dolls generally than I do with the BJDs as much as I love them.
