Winter Warmer

Made this crochet scarf a while ago and haven't got around to posting photos of it yet. I rather like this yarn even though it is hard to crochet with. I think the thickness of it can be used for either MSD or SD but for this shoot, Naiya is modelling it as it shows so well against her sky blue resin.

Plus I don't take nearly enough photos of her. I put some new eyes I got from a friend in her and I rather like how eerie it looks. I do like the white hair on her better than the blue hair but I just need to find a better style I think.

I am still largely experimenting with different types of yarn as I'm not too fussed on the super thin ones. I find it too hard to see my stitches. I'm thinking about offering commission for some of the crochet scarves a bit later in the year when I have more time but not sure about this yet. There are a few crochet things I want to experiment with (crochet pets/robots) for dolls and hats. And I still have to get started on learning how to sew clothing for dolls. Not to mention the sets I still have to build. So many things to do, so little time...

  1. Those eyes are indeed amazing. For a moment I thought they were enhanced in photoshop or something.
    Eyes worthy of a oracle.

What kind of wig style do you want for her?

And again, she's a real beauty. I'm so glad she stays with you. :)

I think it's a great idea for you to start making scarves and hats for bjds. There aren't really that many on the market.
Can't wait to see what you come up with!

I'm not great at sewing, but if you have any questions I'd be glad to help you.

    1. Nope, no enhancement in photoshop. That's how they photograph. They're amazing. I am pretty sure they are Eyeco silicone eyes.

I'm not really sure yet on her wig style. All I know at the moment is white hair. I'm finding though the problem I am having with most wigs is because she has those elf ears, the wigs even though are a good fit keep sliding off her head, pushed back by those ears.

Me too. I think she conspired to stay because she fell over and broke a prong on her headcap. Hubby glued it back seamlessly for me but I think it was a warning from her!

I have another scarf already made but it got dark so maybe tomorrow I will take a photo of it.

Thank you for the offer! I am looking forward to learning to use my machine a bit more. I have a book that takes you through step by step on how to measure and make a basic pattern. I'll try that and see how I go. Knowing me, I'll get frustrated with it at some point.

  2. I agree, those eyes are amazing!! They suit her so perfectly.

I always have trouble with wigs too... I want the amazing colors that mohair gives you, I love the softness, and the gradients and the just rich colors all around, but I don't want mohair because every mohair wig I've ever had gets frizzy really fast. Maybe they've gotten better? I don't know.

Thanks so much for checking out my blog too :) If you have a link somewhere that I can share on my blog as well, please let me know, I'd love to do it :)

I also really like the scarf... I think you've got a good length and thickness going on there. I find that when people make scarves for dolls, they often don't consider the weight of the yarn, or the thickness of the scarf itself. I have many a bulky scarves that just don't work well with dolls. Yours looks pretty perfect though.

    1. I love mohair wigs too but it's hard to find one that is done well. A lot of the ones I bought off ebay have the cap showing quite obviously and are always so thin on the top.

I've been following your blog since finding the link on Xhanthi's blog. I love how you write the blog from the point of view of your doll's and I adore Nikki. She's such a character.

I don't have a link button at the moment but I can certainly make one up and put it up on a tab titled "Link Me" in the next few days.

Thank you for the comments on my scarf. I like to experiment with different yarns and I try to use smaller size crochet hooks. Sometimes I have to admit, the yarn works, sometimes it doesn't. Lightweight yarns though do tend to work quite well compared to the thicker stuff.

  3. You could try the same wig I got for Bea. It's from For My Doll and there's no problem with fit or ears getting in the way. That's if you like the style. :)
I'm guessing though that other wigs from them should also be a good fit.

Hehe, a girl with character. :)

I think I might have here something for your crafting journey. I'll include it with my next small package. :)

  4. The wig she is wearing in this photo is a For My Doll wig and it catches on her ears. Monique wigs are nice but they are so flyaway and hard to manage.

Oh I am intrigued and thank you for the something for the crafting journey.
