I've been trying out a few different surnames for Vin and came up with Maldoran. I don't mind how it sounds coupled with his first name (which is Vincento Maldoran but he prefers to shorten it to Vin.)
Vin (DZ Hid) is the protagonist of my (possible) story idea for this year's Nanowrimo. I'm still figuring out the actual plot (two weeks left to do that!). Originally I was going to do a sequel to the last finished Nano novel I did but ... after re-reading it, I decided to do something new because that story needs a major overhaul and it's not exactly "Rewrite a story month." That and I am procrastinating on it.
Vin's supporting characters are Myst and Meridian (MNF Shushu), twins who may aid or hinder him on his journey and Ghost (Luts KDF Maska), the boy with no memory. There's also Cedric (MNF Carl) who is a native dweller to the land Vin will find himself in and a possible ally in his journey.
The extra characters who appear are Ariadne (not yet shelled), Rune (MYD Heeah) and Nikolas (Limwha Mono).
~Quick excerpt~
Random scene that came to me...
"Staring at it isn't going to help." Cedric's voice sounded to his right.
"I know that. It's hard to let go." Vin turned away from the faded photograph.
"Try. You need your wits about you where we're going. Put it away. I need to know you've got my back out there."
He shoved it to the bottom of his carry pack.
"I got your back. Don't worry."
"When we find her, she'll tell us how to open it again, I'm sure of it. She knows things. She'll help."
Vin stood and took a swing from his canister. "I hope so."
He wasn't certain about putting his trust in a stranger but Cedric was convinced it was the only way. In the distance, he spied the tower, a beacon in a barren world. Gazing at it as the sun sank below the horizon, he felt a cold wind blow from its direction and a dark foreboding crept into his bones.
He looks great, and yey for Nano, I'm still deciding if I want to play this year, like I do, but I've been so dry lately writing wise. I managed a two page short last night, but the other times I'd tried recently I'd just stared at the page for hours.
ReplyDeleteAck, I hate when that happens. You just sit there and stare at this blank screen. Good luck with Nano if you decide to do it this year!
