I hope everyone had a great New Year! I still can't believe it is 2015 already. It all seems so surreal at the moment. I am still recovering from Christmas!
I have been sucked into the "Fantasy Life" game since I got it at Christmas and it got me thinking that I want to really make some big changes this year to the doll collection. Sentimentality aside, sometimes you just have to let things go. I have been struggling with the three minifees I currently have and I am beginning to accept that maybe they just don't work for me. So the plan is to hopefully move them on. And the big massive 68cm Popodoll body I have (what was I thinking?) could do with moving on as well. I can handle Saint's body but only because it's so thin and lanky.
So that's the plan so far, well part of the plan for this year. I wouldn't mind trying to move on at least one of my Monster High dolls as well and possibly two of my Fashion Royalty dolls.
The other plan (courtesy of Chibi Maker 1.1 by gen8 at deviantART) is to shell my avatar in Fantasy Life in her two aspects: that of a mage and that of an alchemist. Her name is familiar (that name used to belong to MYD Heeah).
I'm thinking I'd love to shell these characters in the 27cm bjd size. At the moment, I think Luts Honey Delf is most likely the way to go but I am still investigating other companies. I'm also going to choose different sculpts for each character. And I want to try to see if I can figure out how to cobble together these outfits or as close as I can get to them by either seeing what bits and pieces I can find already made or sew them myself (a big ask!)
What has been on my my mind a lot lately though is how much more I prefer the smaller sizes these days to the bigger sizes. I really barely touch my bigger dolls anymore. They all have their pros and cons but the smaller dolls for me at least, seem easier to handle and photograph more and more. So that just leaves one question ... what happens with the bigger dolls in my collection?
I hope you get your doll collection to the point you want it this year. Sometimes is hard to let some things go, but it the end is much much better.
ReplyDeleteyour mage and alchemist chars look very nice though I'm not familiar with the game
I'm hoping so too. Sometimes with me, it could just be a matter of switching out head sculpts or tweaking the story a bit to make me feel better about a doll on the "maybe to go" list.
DeleteFantasy Life is a relatively new game I think released for the 'New' Nintendo 3DS.
Hi Alasse,
ReplyDeleteI can see Honey Delfs as your little characters and also relate to your affinity with the smaller dolls. I have many more smaller dolls than large ones, they sort of sit in my hands better. I'm also moving on dolls that no longer fit in.
Hugs,
X
Moving on dolls is such a pain especially with the secondhand market as it stands right now. Nothing seems to sell well anymore. I'll procrastinate more...
DeleteSmaller dolls are definitely easier to handle. I think I appreciate the beauty and presence of the bigger dolls quite a bit but the smaller dolls are just easier to "grab and go" if that makes sense!
Oh that Chibi maker XD I spent HOURS using it to make my characters ages ago, and some of them have changed so much since then I feel like I should do it again! It takes so much time D:
ReplyDeleteYou know for the dislike I have for Dollshe for their business practices my Hound is also my favorite 70cm - he's so easy in every way. Everything I put on him fits and even though I complain about all the locks on his joints it does mean he can hold all his poses. And stand, which is always important. As encouragement, my Popo68 moved on really fast after I posted it for sale. Hope you have the same luck.
As for the size thing, I have pretty much every size at this point, and I don't think I could bring myself to get rid of any of them completely (I tried with the Pukifee size, and now I have even more than I started with >.<). I tend to get fascinated by them in phases. This week it's SD again as I spent some time dressing them and fixing them up over the holiday. I'll move back to mini eventually and then become obsessed with tinies.....so it's really hard even to pick a favorite size, let alone cut one loose altogether.
If it gets to the point where the larger dolls don't make you feel comfortable or happy, I would definitely let them go however. Being unhappy with something in a hobby that is purely about joy is the cue to me that it needs to change. Good luck!!
That Chibi maker is so awesome. The other one I like (and you might like too as it's more fantasy based) is the Gaia Dream Avatar maker. Although it has a heap more options so takes a lot longer to put one together.
DeleteI had read about the Dollshe fiasco. I am glad I waited long after that before ordering although I must admit, I was a bit concerned when I ordered my Rhythmos body. I really didn't want to wait a year or longer for it. Luckily, mine came within 3 months. {sigh of relief there}.
Your hound, does he have the older body or the newer Pure one? Mine is the Rhythmos and it stands okay once I get it in the right spot but I have problems with that body sitting without having to lean it up against something... but then again, I haven't sueded or anything.
My concern with the Popodoll body is that it weighs 4-5 kg and costs almost $100 EMS to post to the US. Our postal rates are getting pretty bad for international postage these days so I've found, a lot of times, buyers are put off by the high shipping costs. Here in Australia, our overseas shipping is calculated on weight rather than box size so the heavier an item, the more expensive it gets to post. Even at airmail rates, it's about $90 although I'd be too worried to send via airmail because it's not trackable or insured. It's not so bad on items that are lighter in weight to post, it's just the heavy stuff that is a concern.
I'm glad you said that about the different sizes because I think I am a lot like that too. Each size becomes flavour of the week/month every so often and that is okay. I mean, I had a Yo sized doll at one point and sold them both and now look at me, getting another Yo.
Thanks for your words of advice. Much appreciated. I don't feel unhappy with the larger dolls at the moment so maybe that means I should quit worrying about it? Ah, this hobby has its quirks doesn't it?
