Of Wren and Rabbits

I decided to try testing out Wren with the diorama today. It looks like the tiny dolls aren't a bad size to use with it. I also redressed her. I like her new eyes, not really sold on the wig though. Maybe I will put her green one back on.

And after waiting patiently for over a year, I finally ordered her proper outfit yesterday from TTYA. I'm hoping they don't take too long to ship it out.

For those who weren't aware, Souldoll are discontinuing their Sweet line and have heavily discounted the heads and body of that line until the 31st March. I am seriously debating on getting the Isla Rabbit Head with the face up. I'm not fussed on the Sweet body so I'd have to hybrid the head to another body if I got her.  It's mostly what always held me off from getting one of the Sweet Dolls, plus I have heard both good and bad things about the company so not sure. I still have some time to procrastinate ...

In other news, both my (former) Minifee Carl and Limwha Mono sold so I'm now down two dolls in the numbers game. Thank goodness. I'm also considering selling off another doll but ... I don't know. I don't really plan to replace any of the sold dolls. I'm getting to the point where I like having the smaller collection. But of course, if I did get another, it'd be either another Yo or another Tiny. Plus they take up less space in the cabinet and I'm finding these days, I seem more drawn to them than the bigger size.

I think I'll be incorporating Rosalina into one of the existing dolls here. I've been following the Bluefairy discussion on DoA and from my understanding, it seems like the company has changed the body sculpt for their Tiny Fairy size and that is the body you get, not the old classic body. I've seen some photos of the new body on their facebook a while back and wasn't really fussed on the aesthetics so I guess that decides that for me. And the hands on the Little Monica Little Harmony girl  body really bugs me. I know, such a silly thing but I've discarded many wishlist dolls simply because I did not like the hand sculpting (Tiny Delf 20 Mytyl, Iplehouse JID, Souldoll Sweet, Dollmore Kid to name a few). Yes, one can hybrid but resin matching is such a pain that I avoid it if I can.

To end this ramble, let me pose a question ...

If you could "reset" your collection, would you have done exactly the same thing as the first time around or would you have changed directions?

  1. Nice pic! and congrats on selling the dolls you wanted to sell.
I love souldoll Isla, I wanted to get one in the far future, it's too bad they are going to discontinue them, hope you get Isla so I can see yours :D

If I could reset my collection I think I would have gone MSD size instead of SD (I could still do it, since I don't have many SDs left, but I refuse to part with my Dia). And I would definitelly stay away from ntrincate fantasy parts that frustrate me when I want to take nice pics.

    1. Thanks! I'm still procrastinating on Isla. Right now I am thinking if I sell my Popodoll body then I can use that money to buy her but I doubt the body will sell before the last date...

I am with you there, I would definitely stick to MSD and smaller. I like my SDs though now that I have them but if I didn't, I wouldn't know what I was missing!

I love fantasy parts but I found them hard to photograph too. I used to have a few fantasy dolls (with fantasy parts and also fantasy colours). All great in theory but ... hard to take decent photos of.

  2. Love how the backdrop looks Alasse, it's come up a treat. Great that you've moved your dolls, I managed to move my heads and hope my Lati Yellow soon finds a new home now that I am no longer getting my DZ Vanilla. I think sometimes it takes a little while to discover the direction you want to take with the dolls, I know it did for me. I jumped in feet first and now I have found it's time to prune a few that just don't quite fit my stories.

    1. Good luck with your Lati Yellow! I hope she is able to move quickly for you! It is definitely slow going on the MP right now.

I was like you in that I jumped in feet first myself. My long list of past dolls (all moved on) is testament to that. I think in the early years, I just didn't know what I wanted so tried a heap of different things and discovered what I liked and what I most certainly did not like in a doll. It's all part of the journey isn't it?

  3. That's an interesting question. I thought about it for awhile and I think my collection would have turned out pretty much the same. I like having the variety of doll sizes that I have.

Wren looks so cute! She has a lot of attitude, that girl, doesn't she?

And congrats on your dolls selling!

    1. You always take great photos of all of your dolls. I really love looking at them and wondering how you do it, especially your group shots! Those sorts of shots are nightmares for me.

I think for me, the reset feeling has come about more since I started to branch out into other doll lines as well so I started thinking in terms of space in the cabinet. A lot of dolls don't take up as much room as those SD dolls I have at the moment but I am glad I went through the journey because otherwise I wouldn't have ended up with the ones I have now.

It's nice to move on dolls that just wasn't working but I was keeping around just because they were pretty.

    2. Ah, group shots. I hate them too. They are the hardest kind of pictures to take. But, I keep trying to do them because I like seeing my dolls together. Someday, I would like to take a picture of all my bjds together. I can only imagine how frustrating it's going to be, which is why I've not done it yet. XD haha

  4. Wren looks great in your backdrop! Congrats on selling the 2 dolls. Ilsa is adorable!

I'm relatively new to the hobby, (about 2 years) and I love my Lena character (MNF Rheia) But if I could go back with the knowledge I currently have I would probably go with an Unoa Lusis for my first doll, as I LOVE the various facial expressions they offer!!!

    1. Thanks! Ah, I had a Rheia, briefly. She's a beautiful doll but I think I preferred enjoying her through other people's photos of her!

I've always been curious about the Unoas myself. I do like their different facial expressions and it looks fairly easy to change them out too. They're just hard to get is the only issue. I have heard their body is not that good at posing though so maybe you could hybrid and get a Unoa head and headback for your Minifee body?
