Getting rid of the frizz

Since my Alice in Steampunk World arrived the other day, I decided I didn't need two Alice dolls really to be, well, Alice. So I came to the conclusion to use my Sepia Alice as the custom Pullip. That and those curls were so bad, frizzed to the point of no return that it was a good opportunity to give her stock wig a bit of a hair cut. I didn't really mind too much as I plan to replace her wig at some point. I'm either going with a silver/white or black wig. I really like her monochrome look and want to keep that.

Plus, I've kind of wanted a doll inspired by Emily The Strange for ages.

I'm going to go ahead and name this one Clara. Here she is after I cut away those insanely frizzed up no hope of saving curls. Strangely, the ends of her hair does what mine does when it gets cuts short, kind of flips up. It's hard to judge length on curly/wavy hair when cutting but it's always fun.

The one thing I don't want to do when I get her a new wig is glue it down. A lot of tutorials I've found about changing out the stock wig says about gluing the new wig down. I think I might try either a headcap or rubber band to keep the wig in place. Velcro is another option but it'll be the last option as I hate using that stuff for wigs.

From everything I've read, 8-9inch is pretty snug on them but 9-10inch might be better as it'll go over the whole head and eye mech as well ...so I will try the bigger size.

I think I will also go ahead and make a choker and headband for her. I'll also really like to get a dress with sleeves but still in a similar style to the one she is wearing, keep that gothic Victorian/Wednesday vibe.

  1. She's cute, I like her whole color scheme~ and her outfit is adorable x3

If you get a new wig for your Pullip, usually you don't need to glue it down. I've found most wigs have elastic bands which allow them to stay firmly put on Pullip heads. I have 20 Pullips and never needed to use glue! If not, you can use some double sided tape on the head before putting the wig on ^^

    1. One of my current dolls is wearing a 9-10inch soft black wig so I think I will attempt to pry off the stock wig tomorrow and put that on to see how it fits.

Thanks for all the tips regarding the Pullip wigs. Most of the wigs I buy have elastic bands so it's nice to know that works as well. I was actually surprised when I discovered my first Pullip's hair was glued to her head. For some strange reason, I thought Pullips had removable wigs.

Is it weird that I'm excited about making this girl more custom? I know they have the MIO kits but I'd have to commission someone for a face up etc and it's too big of a hassle. Besides, I actually like the face up on certain Pullips.

    1. Thank you. Her hair was really easy to cut which surprised me. The BJD wigs are a bit harder to cut but my scissors went through her hair like butter.

  3. Yes, she looks much better without the frizz Alasse and your styling ideas are perfect for her. The 9/10 wig should fit over a silicone cap just nicely and as for the Wednesday thing . . . I was thinking of names the other day for my incoming girl and Wednesday came to mind. I'm not going to use it, but it seems to me, we must be on a similar wave length. LOL!

I also hate Velcro on dolls, especially around hair. YUK!!

    1. Thanks Xanadu! Oh wow, we sure are on the same wave length!

I know the Emily the Strange books are for younger readers but I love reading them and fell a bit in love with the character and have wanted her in doll form for a while but could never settle on any dolls. I debated over Doll Chateau Bella at one point but I've just not been as taken with the face sculpt after seeing owner photos. Pullips though are perfect for this type of character.

I'll be interested in what you end up naming your incoming girl.
