I just finished sealing them with Vallejo and am letting them cure overnight. Xhanthi just released a great tutorial on how to use this product if anyone is looking for an alternative to MSC.
Unfortunately, I couldn't completely remove the eyebrows. I believe they had stained the vinyl but I'll just work around that. It was about where I had wanted the eyebrows anyway.
The
They have a really cheap plastic smell but for the price, I don't really care too much as these aren't intended to be anything else but practice heads.
Okay, I know what you're thinking. I said I wouldn't be adding anymore to the EAH collection and technically I'm not. I bought her to repaint and because I actually love her blonde hair with the streaks of candy colour in them. Plus I really dislike her character in the episodes so she was a good doll to try and repaint.
I have plans to turn one of my Ghoulias (the only default factory face one I have) into Shiva from Final Fantasy (specifically her FFX version) but before I go ahead and try that on a doll I want to keep, I'd like to try repainting something with a similar head size. Bonus was she was still on sale so it seemed like the stars had aligned.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with these two!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny, because I wouldn't have noticed with her original paint, but the skinnier-faced of the two has an interesting head sculpt - something about the nose, I think.
I noticed the same thing about the skinnier head too. I think because the factory face was so strange and obscured her sculpted features somewhat. I think she looks kind of sweet blank.
DeleteI LOVE Shiva though my favorite is from FFVIII :D!!!!
ReplyDeleteThose dolls look nice for practice! and thanks for showing us the tutorial, though they dont sell vallejo here haha XD but maybe after I run out of liquitex I can try that :)
I think I just got lucky with being able to get Vallejo here in Australia. I know not a lot of places stocked it so I had to order it from an online company. I may try Liquitex if I run out of Vallejo and can't readily get it again. I actually have to thin down the stuff anyway with the airbrush I am using because it has such a small needle and nozzle. It won't spray properly straight out of the bottle for me.
DeleteShiva is great isn't she? I've always loved using her in the games. She's always my favourite Aeon. I love her Diamond Dust attack, I think that's the one where she clicks her fingers and the ice shatters around the enemy.
Omg... the FFX Shiva is my favorite! (though the obsession started with the VIII one!) ~~ that's sooo amazing! But how do you plan to do the complicated hair? (Yes I've considered this before!)
ReplyDeleteGreat dollies for practise, I also like the colors on Apple White :D
Me too, I started with VIII but really liked the design they did for her for FFX. I don't mind the design in the latest one either but she reminds me a bit more of the Snow Queen from Narnia! (Who I also happen to like ... do you think there's a theme there?)
DeleteI'm actually thinking of using either Saran or Yarn. If I used yarn, I ca separate the strands and do a more dreaded look for the hair. With Saran I guess I would just plait it and tie it ... I have to remove Ghoulia's hair anyway. Mattel love shoving glue into their heads and I happen to get the only second MH doll I own to have the glue seeping out into the hair problem which makes the hair feel sticky and tacky and just really gross.
I'm going to work on her re-root first before doing anything else.
Apple's candy coloured strands are my favourite on this particular edition of her.
Looks like you are really serious about doing face ups Alasse, good on you! :) It's a wise move to have these dolls to practice on before tackling the real thing.
ReplyDeleteI love Xhanthi's tutorials, they are so informative and really easy to understand.
Now I shall be anxiously waiting to see the results you achieve with these dolls. :)
Hugs,
X
I'd like a better airbrush but I'm still learning so I'll just stick it out with the one I have at the moment. I think I got it working properly again after pulling it apart today. I was having issues with the spray coming out evenly and managed to find a Youtube tutorial that had some solutions to try when running into this problem. Thank goodness for Youtube right?
DeleteI was hoping to work on their faces today but found out I needed to spray them yet again because the pencils weren't really adhering to the plastic that well so it won't be until tomorrow sometime as I sprayed two additional coats and have to let them cure overnight.
But yes, I am finding that I am enjoying doing these face ups a lot.
