Today, I sent off 50-04 to her face up artist but managed to take some quick snaps of her before packing her head away.
I thought I would try Eve's wig on her to see if I liked the style and I do but prefer the colour to be either pale blonde or honey blonde.
Here, she is wearing a dress and shawl designed for a slim Minifee doll and tights designed for SD13 girls. The hat is one designed for a Pullip. It seems that she does fit 8-9inch wigs but it can be tight. Eve's wig is a 9-10inch which is slightly big but with a clear wig cap underneath, the fit is a lot better. I do plan on getting a cotton wig cap for her as I find the silicone caps can sometimes stain resin so it will most likely stain vinyl.
This body does some quite amazing natural looking poses as well as poses with a bit of attitude like in the last photo here. I haven't as yet been able to get her to stand on one leg yet but I think that's mostly due to not yet finding that center of gravity.
50-04 without a wig. She looks a little bobble headed and the neck looks a touch skinny when she is bald but with a wig on, I don't really notice this as much. For me personally, I don't mind as I like the big head, little cute body look. She might look more in proportion on a 60cm body.
Close up of her eyes which I bought from Parabox. I do like them but I think they sometimes look a bit dull in some lighting. I'll probably get more eyes. If anyone has suggestions on where to get these style of eyes from, feel free to leave me a comment below.
The back of her head. You can see where it is etched with OBT50-04 which is the sculpt name. To remove these headcaps, it's a simple matter of gently squeezing and pulling out. To put the headcap back on, I just try and align the sculpt name on the headcap with the sculpt name on the head base and squeeze and gently push in.
This is why if you plan to get the bigger Obitsu dolls, I highly recommend attaching the head piece and leaving it in. They go for about $8 AUD so pretty inexpensive to stock up on. I used a handy tutorial I found here to attach my head piece. It was lucky I had my husband to help me otherwise I would not have been able to do this myself.
This neck piece 'tube' is quite handy and once all heads are installed with this, it's a very easy matter of simply pulling the head with neck piece attached out of the body and putting in another head. It got a little banged up during installation.
A view down inside the Obitsu neck. That darker peach coloured plastic round knob you can see is actually the top part of the inner skeleton and where the neck tube slides over to lock in the head.
One other noticeable difference I found was this squishy torso part. The bust is also squishy but not as much as the torso. I'm used to picking up my dolls around their waist so it's a bit strange to pick the Obitsu girl up this way and actually feel that part of her inner skeleton with how much the vinyl 'gives' when you press on it.
Overall, I think the Obitsu heads and bodies are sculpted quite beautifully and I really am finding myself in love with their natural posing abilities.

One last photo, this one in homage to Celty Sturluson from Durarara. I figured seeing as the body was headless, I had this image of making an ode to one of my favourite anime characters. Apparently there is going to be a figma of her released so I will definitely be getting that one. Hope it comes with the black smoke like the Nendoroid version.
The last photo is brilliant! I can't believe there's an anime with a headless character in it! XD Seems so different and interesting. LOL :D
ReplyDeleteGreat review, I think her posing is very nice and real~ I had the problem with my DD girl that her arms are very loose and tend to fall off, her torso also easily comes apart at the middle joint ;_;.. it's very frustrating! I wonder if this type of body might be a suitable replacement!
Those eyes can be bought everywhere on taobao too ~ just search for DD eyes I think! But the size is important, usually it's between 20 to 24mm~~
The headless rider is an Irish fairy, a 'Dullahan'. I find the character concept so very intriguing. I'm a fan of Irish and Celtic mythology so no surprises that I love the character of Celty.
DeleteWow, but I did not know DD bodies were like that. Is it one of the older bodies or newer ones that you have? The Obitsu body I have is quite solid, about 48cm but with the head on, I measured her at 53-55cm tall. I don't currently have a DD head otherwise I would show you what one would look like on this size body (although they do have a 50cm. The only difference is it comes with an M bust and the legs are longer.) I have heard of people hybriding their DD heads onto Obitsu bodies though. Mimiwoo has a tutorial on how to do it with the neck piece. When I eventually get my DDH-06 head, I can compare the two sizes for you and also put the head on this body. This is going to be my floating body so I'll have at least two heads sharing it at some stage.
I've also read that DD Normal skin is a good match for Obitsu White Skin but you can probably google DD/Obitsu hybrid and find some more info on that.
Thanks for the eye tip. My 50-04 takes a 20mm and my 50-02 takes 18mm. Everything I've seen that I have liked so far seems to only come in 22mm which won't fit into my 50-04's eye sockets.
She's so pretty!! I loke her body a lot! didn't realize her head was so big until you mentioned wig size. It doesn't look that booble headed, I quite like it!
ReplyDeleteI was really surprised when I opened her and saw how big her head was compared to the default head that came with the body. It's amazing the size difference even though both heads are supposed to be able to go with that size body. I will probably try for an 8-9inch wig for her as the 9-10inch is a little big for her. One site I read said she took 9inch wigs but the Obitsu site lists her wig size as 8-9inch. So confusing!
DeleteHi Alasse,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review. She is certainly an interesting doll and I was quite fascinated by the neck joint. Love the last photo, it's very clever. :)
Hugs,
X
You're welcome. That neck joint is quite different isn't it? I love how easy it is to swap out heads once the neck piece is in. That neck piece is a world of pain. I wish they had come up with a better way of doing it as the way it works with the tube sliding inside the neck is quite brilliant but getting the neck piece on is a bit of a trial.
DeleteThank you. I wanted to do something in homage to that character and then decided I'd make it old style sort of photo.
