So I gave her a little make over. She got a more elegant hairstyle complete with a funky butterfly pin and new threads. I think she's totally rocking this look. I'm keeping her default name as Apple because she kind of reminds me of candy apple because of her colour scheme.
I also managed to pick up Issue 2 of the Marvels magazine with Black Widow as the figure.
Unlike Iron Man, I think the likeness to the actress isn't really there other than in the costuming and pose but not in the face.
I don't feel she is as well painted and sculpted as Iron Man. The paintwork on her outfit is good but a little clunky on the guns and hair. She's still a lovely figure for the price but I was a little disappointed as the prototype photos had more of a likeness to the Black Widow from the Avengers movies.
I was tipped off by one of my husband's work colleagues about a new pop culture shop in our town so of course I had to go have a look. Pop Vinyl heaven. There were so many to choose from as well as Nendoroids, Figma, Studio Ghibli merchandise and much more. So you can imagine my delight when I found one of the limited edition Snow Miku (the Snow Bell version) and for a decent price too. I had to have her. It was a shame though there weren't any QPOSKET figures. I may have to order in the QPOSKET Princess Serenity that I want.
Sadly, this figure was a little disappointing. Two seconds out of the box and the cherry on her shoes came off and I had to superglue it back on. Then her bottom parts (both of them) didn't fit into the hole slot well so I had to file the pegs down to get them to fit without falling out all the time. And I also noticed the top of her hair looked like it had faded somewhat. By this point, I was really getting worried I might have just bought a bootleg so I took to the good ole internet and looked up details for comparison. After investigating the matter, it looks like the one I bought is legit (lucky for the store I bought her from otherwise there would have been hell to pay). I suspect she might have been a display model and was actually removed from the box for in store display. It's a shame but at least most of the issues are tiny and can be fixed and she still looks pretty neat.
My IT Jordan arrived earlier in the week. She is as gorgeous in person as I imagined. I did take a bunch of photos of her on the day she arrived but none of them turned out. It's actually a little difficult trying to capture her true skin colour as it can look darker or lighter depending on how much light hits her.
I really love her very strong features. I feel like she's a lady who can handle herself pretty well and has a will of steel.
She has a slight scuff mark on the end of her nose which I haven't tried to clean off yet but otherwise she came to me in pretty good condition. I really adore her face screening and love that hint of yellow on her eyes.
Another new addition is this rare hard to find second wave "Orange Top" MTM Barbie. I got lucky and picked her up at Toyworld on Saturday. She was the only one there. She does have a spot missing on her eyebrow so I will have to try and fix that up by applying some acrylic paint but otherwise, everything else was fine. I washed out her hair and combed out the big curls she had. I may put the curls back in at some point. I love the combination of that skin tone with the blonde hair. I also like her face screening.
Yet another bald Ghoulia. This one was my former Geek Shriek Ghoulia. It was a shame I had to remove her hair but it was so filled with leaking glue to the point of utter tacky hair, it was pretty gross. And the amount of glue that came out of inside her head was pretty bad. I also removed her super bright red lips. I like her eye screening so I am only doing a part custom on her face. Still not sure what colour I will make her lips and I will probably go with a wig for her as I really dislike re-rooting.
The plushie in the background is new too. It's from Spirited Away.
All three girls getting acquainted.
Orange Top: Ooooh I love how soft and silky your hair is and such a gorgeous red.
Jordan: Would you please not touch my hair?
Ghoulia: This bald look is really psyching me out.
Hi Alasse,
ReplyDeletePity about the Black Widow and Snow Miku, it happens a lot with figures, I don't think they have really good quality control on them.
I certainly wouldn't want to cross Jordan, boy those looks are dangerous! I like the loose curls on Orange Top, they look so natural.
Boy it sounds like you've had some real trials with your Ghoulia, but I think the paler lips and wig will work for her.
Hugs,
X
Usually, the figures from Good Smile, at least ones I've purchased have been really good quality. This is the first from the company that hasn't met the usual standards.
DeleteI've been really loving the fashion dolls a lot lately. It's just so much easier to find props for them (and affordable too!)
I still haven't found the right material to make Ghoulia's wig yet. Everything I have seen so far is a bit meh. I might pop into Lincraft tomorrow and see what they have.
I adore all of your purchases and projects :3 Ahh, you're lucky to have found a pop culture shop, Ghibli merchandise is especially dangerous! I remember finding a Ghibli shop in Taipei... I will probably have to go there again, but the prices were rather... Japanese xO so bad for your wallet!
ReplyDeleteI seem to be buying a lot of fashion dolls lately! I really like the Integrity Toys style especially their older dolls like Jordan. Sadly some of the newer dolls have quality issues but their older dolls second-hand tend to be pricey!
DeleteI wish there was a Ghibli shop in Australia. There is probably merchandise down in the bigger cities like Melbourne where the anime community is a lot bigger. Still plan to visit Melbourne one day.
I think Ghoulia rocks the bald look but I guess it's just me XD
ReplyDeleteIt's such a shame about your new nendo (which is so pretty btw) and the black widow figure. I've never been the one to collect figures, though I got some plastic tsum tsums this weekend, the excuse was that they could work as Ailene's toys, but who am I kidding, they are sitting in my desk lol. Hope your future purchases have better quality control~
Jordan is absolutely stunning, love her hair color and the eyes are very pretty too!! She arrived quite fast, congrats!
Nope, not just you. I like her bald look too. I debated about giving her short hair as none of my fashion doll girls have really short hair yet. I would have to figure out how to do that though...
DeleteWell you never know, I'm sure Ailene will feel like playing with them one day!
I try to buy mostly from Australian sellers because shipping is so much cheaper and faster! Only problem is most of the good dolls are from US sellers but the shipping cost is triple the price on top of the price of the doll and the conversion to AUD so I tend to avoid it if possible.
I never thought I would love the faces on the Ever After High Dolls as much as I do. I think there's a lot more subtlety there than can be picked up in a two-dimensional picture.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, I share this sentiment too. I always overlooked EAH but there are some really lovely face screening especially with some of the more recent dolls from the past year.
