May the Fourth Be With You '23

Just a quick post to wish my fellow Star Wars fans a Happy Star Wars Day! Featuring one of my favourite characters Din Djarin from The Mandalorien, the other favourite being Ashoka Tano. (This figure actually belongs to my husband. I am waiting for my own in the original Beskar armour to arrive.)

This Small World

A quick post with some figure and doll photography.

I also wanted to showcase a Youtube video I came across called "Jerry Business: Little Toys, Big World" by SmugMug Films. It is a very short film about a toy photographer who does toy street photography. I love how creative and adventurous he gets with his photography. I also love his philosophy that if people like his work, that's great but if people don't that's okay too because he'll still keep doing it.

It's exactly how I feel. I'll keep doing this because I enjoy it and love it. Obviously I have been branching out past the dolls and entering the realm of toy and miniature photography these days. I like to mix it up and experiment. Plus, let's be honest, figures are so much easier to pose (and store) compared to big massive dolls!! And if they happen to fall during a photoshoot, the person taking the photo doesn't feel like their heart stopped from it. (Yes I am looking at you BJDs.)

Coraline, Coraline. I love this figure. I have two versions of her. They aren't the most "lux" figures but they are still pretty good at posing, plus I was super lucky to get them as they are hard to find.

Snap and Smile

I've been taking a lot of photos over the past few days. Of different subjects. It's been interesting, challenging and frustrating. But it's also been a lot of fun. I haven't had time until recently to really enjoy taking photos for a while so it was nice to have the time to be able to do this.

We'll start with one of my most neglected dolls. She's an Obitsu 48cm doll with the Mafuyu head. It's been such a long time since I posted her on this blog. I'm going to call her Anya.

Bounty

I really wanted to make use of the good weather outside yesterday for a change so borrowed two of my husband's Star Wars figures for a quick photoshoot.

It's a little hard to see as I wasn't sure if it would work. I had my daughter help me with this one. I gave her a spray bottle filled with water and got her to spray it up into the air. I wanted a fine rain mist effect which it provided however the camera doesn't do a great job of catching it. But if you look closely, you will see tiny water droplets on the figure and a fine mist on his helmet (courtesy of my daughter who decided to spray the water onto the figure at one point). I wanted to give the illusion he had been trekking through the rain in pursuit of a bounty.

The Colour Sphere

I mentioned in a previous post I had been watching tutorials on toy photography. I purchased a neat little portable light that has multiple colours (for adding mood and atmosphere). I wanted to try it out and thought it would be fun to grab a couple of my figures to test drive the light. I also thought it was a great opportunity for me to play with my camera settings on my DSLR.

Here are the results of my little experiment.

My Tiny World

Recently I've been watching tutorials on Toy Photography and wanted to try my hand at this. I used my DSLR and phone to take photos. I got a new phone recently and I have to say, I love the photo quality on this one. Although that makes no difference on the blog as blogger does something weird to my photos and they never look quite as clear and crisp as they do in my photo editing program. Oh well, can only work with what I have.

A Day in the Wilderness

Took our daughter to visit with her grandparents and thought it would be a good opportunity to take some dolls and get in some quick photos while I was there.

The Great Outdoors

I hope everyone is keeping well, healthy and safe! Miss 4 has finally started at an Early Learning Center two days a week so I will be getting a tiny bit of free time - at least until Christmas as her Center closes for two weeks.

This year has flown by so fast. I can't believe we are already nearing the end of September. I know I say this every year but this particular year seems to have sped by even faster. Having a toddler running around really fills up your day so you start marking days by their activities rather than the time!

I was finally able to have a good photo session this past weekend when we took Miss 4 over to visit with her grandparents. Hubby kept her occupied while I took some snaps of figures I took around there. Unfortunately these days, photos are mostly taken with my phone rather than my big camera. Don't want to have it broken running after Miss 4!!

The first set of photos is with one of my Figma figures. I can't remember the name sorry. She's rather cute though.

Being Coraline

Thank you everyone for the kind words of support over my last post. I appreciate every one of them. It has been a hard week with my boy gone but we are taking it one day at a time.

In an effort to get back to routine, hubby and I decided to do our regular Thursday night shopping just to get out of the house and try and be normal for a little while. While we were out, he found the Coraline figure I had been wanting to get for a while now. This figure is incredibly hard to get your hands on as it's sold out at most places and has been for a while. So it was a surprise to find that our local Zing store had her. Hubby bought this for me to cheer me up a little.

For those who aren't aware of who Coraline is, here is a trailer to the official movie, released in 2009.

"I don't want whatever I want. Nobody does. Not really. What kind of fun would it be if I just got everything I ever wanted just like that, and it didn't mean anything? What then?"

Lady of Light, Lady of Shadows

I've been thinking about my next bjd purchase. I can either get a body for my Dollzone Cosmo floating head (Geraint) which would be nice but because he is from 2010, resin match is going to be pretty difficult or I can get another full doll. I'm tempted to get a Lady of Light to play off against my Lady of Shadows but I'm still procrastinating on it.

In the meantime, I was able to get out in the yard today and snap some photos. Let's start with our Lady of Shadows first.

Amaryll deep in thought about the state of affairs in her Shadow Court. This grey skin looks gorgeous in natural lighting.

May The Fourth Be With You

Well, it's a little late for May Fourth in Australia as we're only a couple of hours from the end of it but it's about to be May Fourth somewhere in the world.

The Dark Phoenix - Marvel Legends Series

After patiently waiting and hoping for a sale to happen, it finally did and I managed to get X-Men's Dark Phoenix at a sale price. She came as a twin pack with Cyclops but obviously I was only wanting it for Phoenix.

A Phoenix Rises

A few months ago, I mentioned about putting an order at Hobbysearch for Phoenix from X-Men. After some delays from Coreplay, she finally arrived.

I've been a massive fan of the Dark Phoenix storyline since I saw the animated version on TV when I was younger. So when I saw Coreplay had released this girl, I had to get her. She came in two versions, this one and the fiery eyes one. I really can't figure out why they didn't just include the second version as an extra head with this one.

DC Comics Diana Prince Doll & New Resin in the House

This will be a rather big and photo intense post.

A couple of new dolls in the house this week. We'll start with the gorgeous resin that came in a lovely parcel from my Tassie friend yesterday. I actually discovered this sculpt a bit late and always seemed to miss the sales when she came in stock. So I was delighted when my friend asked if I would like this sculpt. She is Bimong Dandelion.

Even blank, she has such beautiful features. Her lips are incredibly detailed and I love her rather wistful expression. I had been planning to paint her myself but after seeing her in person, I'm not sure I have the skills to do this face justice. I may have to send her out for a face up but ... I really don't like having to send dolls out these days. I will have to procrastinate further.

Figma: Wind Ranger

Further to my fantasy discussion from my last post, I actually received one of my figma orders last week. I was so frustrated with not being able to turn my dolls into a fantasy crew that I ended up looking for this in another medium - action figures or rather specifically, Figma figures. That's not to say I won't attempt to turn my dolls into a fantasy crew, it'll just take a lot more time so progress will be slow, snail's pace really.

On to the hero of this post ...

She is my 'Ranger' class character.

Of Apples and Widows

When I bought Apple White months ago, the plan was to wipe her face, remove her hair and repaint her ... however, I took her out to work on her today and realised that I really loved her face screening and the hair combination was just too gorgeous to replace.

So I gave her a little make over. She got a more elegant hairstyle complete with a funky butterfly pin and new threads. I think she's totally rocking this look. I'm keeping her default name as Apple because she kind of reminds me of candy apple because of her colour scheme.

An Avenger Knocks and a Body Thief Emerges

A lot of photos to post today. It's been a very cold past two days here in the (normally warm) tropics. Unusual weather for here but I'm not complaining. Even had to turn on the heater last night just to get warm! That is a first!

Let's start with Iron Man.

I was at the newsagent today and saw this new magazine with a figure of Iron Man attached to it. So of course, I couldn't resist. I adore Iron Man's suit.

Holiday Haul Plus Backlog

I'm back from Brisbane and don't have as many photos as I wanted. I only had my phone with me as I didn't want to haul down my big camera so I took a photo of the city with my phone camera and the goodies with my big camera once I got back home. Every day was busy and it went far too quickly.

I'll start with "Goodnight Brisbane" which was the last photo I took on the last night I was down there. The weather was beautiful, nice and cold unlike where I live which is always so hot!

The view from the opposite side of the river where I had dinner with my sister. We had a seafood paella (was too dark in the restaurant for a photo), lamb kebabs and tomato salad. It was delicious. We ended the night at a different restaurant for desert. I had Churros with salted caramel and fresh strawberries. My photo of this did not turn out sadly.

Mail Day

A bunch of stuff arrived today from Hobbysearch. I had actually forgotten I had ordered the Chara Form. It was supposed to have been released back in December 2015 but got delayed twice.
