It's hip to be blue

I finally got a chance to make some slight changes to one of the Pureneemo girls (and finish a re-root on another doll).

I don't know if I ever had a name for this one. Probably not and still don't. She used to have a small side fringe which I never really liked too much because it looked kind of strange so I ended up pulling that section out and re-rooting with some blue streaks.

I am really loving the change.

She has been on my to do list for a while now and it wasn't going to take long but other things always seemed to get in the way so I sat down and decided to do it while I had the re-rooting tools out.

I finally finished the re-root on the Barbie girl. I did actually go back in and added a few additional strands to try and cover some bald spots she still had on her head after I took this photo. I really am not sure what fibre this hair is but it is very hard to try and style it. But at least she's done now. That's another thing checked off the list.

I absolutely love Dark Crystal so when I saw these figures, I decided to snap them up. My husband is giving me Jen for Christmas but I was allowed to open Kira as an early present. She is standing on a Barbie size pallet that I made for the dolls.

There's also a reason I've been quite absent most of the week (besides work). Last weekend, I bought the new Sims 4 expansion, City Living and I've been playing it quite a bit.

I am still pretty in awe at how far the Sims have come since the first edition of this game. The graphics are so pretty now.

This is one of my newest Sim families. Her name's Cleo. She's married to Caesar. She's a food critic and he's a tech guru. They live in one of the more modest penthouses overlooking the city. I started them out in a cheaper apartment but got sick of their noisy neighbours preventing them from getting enough sleep.

I still haven't got a shipping notice for my Bluefairy girl (that I ordered over two months ago). Now I remember why I had a lack of interest in purchasing more bjds. Wait times and upfront payments make me nervous. I know the time-frame isn't as long as some companies (like Latidoll) but I do get nervous about losing money which I can't afford to lose if something goes wrong. I don't mind so much if pre-order dolls take a deposit with the remaining balance paid when the doll is ready to ship. But in bjd-land, they want the full amount upfront (which is a lot!) and can't really give a definite time-frame for when the doll will ship. This makes me nervous. It also means ordering bjds stresses me out. Which is why I don't do it often anymore.Until I have the doll in hand, I'll always be worrying.

I want to concentrate more on dioramas and customisations anyway so it's a good thing my acquiring more dolls days are almost over!

  1. Oh I'm sorry May's waiting has been stressing you out!! Hope she ships soon and everything goes back to normal for you. I'm so used to bjds because it's the only thing I buy, that I can't imagine it any other way. But I've been thinking about momokos for sometime now thanks to certain someone (hehe) and I almost feel ready to jump into another doll collection. I say almost because the fear of starting yet another collection terrifies me, but we will see what happens from here to january, since I'm telling myself not to buy anything until the end of the year.

You have been playing sims and I have been playing world of final fantasy, but still we both have managed to get things do and I'm glad for once I've been productive (I don't have to worry about you because you always are). Your new sims character is very nice, you know I can't dislike pink hair even if I got paid to do so :D pink pink pink!

Your rerooting skills are flawless, I truly admire you! I don't think I would dare to do it, but your rerootings always seem to end up so amazing, loving the blue streak on your pureneemo and how your barbie looks now. There has been a few barbies with fantasy colors but they never look as good as yours.

Hope your weekend is going amazing!

    1. It wouldn't be so bad ordering bjds if they did the system differently like with some of my other pre-order items. With the last FR doll I purchased, I had to pay 20% deposit and then the balance when the doll came in and was ready to ship. I like that system. I haven't ordered a bjd in such a long time now that I had forgotten how stressful it could be. But as you said, if that's the only thing you order, then it would be the norm for you and it was for me too before I started venturing out into other doll lines and seeing the different types of systems other places used for their pre-order items. I believe even DDE when I last ordered a bjd through them had a similar system set up, deposit on order + balance on shipping. Not sure if they've changed that system since as it was quite a few years ago now that I ordered my DZ Hid from them.

Oooh I am happy to enable with Momokodolls. Share the love! I will say, when purchasing Momokodolls, unless it's a limited you fall in love with, you can look around for sales. That's how I've managed to buy my three girls. None of them were purchased at their retail price. I also would suggest AmiAmi as they seem to be the most competitive for pricing on Momokodolls, also Hobbysearch can sometimes be all right. There's also the Petworks Global Store but they don't keep a big range of dolls. The other place was Mimiwoo however I only bought mine from there as the store was having a sale. Their retail prices I find are the most expensive for Momoko. They are the usual suspects I tend to check for my Momokodolls.

I thought of you when I made her hair pink! She's one of my geeky sims. She did have white glasses but I don't know what happened to those. I need to put it back on her. How are you finding world of Final Fantasy?

Awww thank you for the kind words on my re-rooted dolls. It is time consuming to do re-roots but I find the repetitive motion quite relaxing and it means I can re-watch the whole ten seasons of Stargate SG-1 again. Makes the time go faster too. In total, Barbie re-root took me about 4 days at about 4-5 hours each day, roughly.

I was hoping to start on a MH re-root with the blue black hair I have here on the weekend but I came down with a cold late Saturday afternoon and was laid up in bed all day yesterday with fever. Ack. Hate being sick because I am not productive when I am sick and that frustrates me a bit.

Hope you had a better weekend than me!

  2. I know the feeling with waiting and wondering about those upfront payments. When I ordered my first bjd, my husband did not like the idea of paying so much money and then sit and wait for „ages“. Hope that you get your doll soon or at least hear that she is on the way.

Games are so much fun and really releases stress. I usually keep it to Jelly Splash, Experiment Island and Angry Birds.

I like your reroots, they look amazing! I like the touch of blue in your Pureneemo girl’s hair.

    Have a wonderful new week!

    1. It is rather nerve wrecking to hand over that much money and hope the doll gets in your hands. It's one of the biggest factors in not buying a lot of bjds for me lately. It's not so much the wait time, heck, I had a doll on pre-order for a year before it finally arrived but then again, I didn't have to pay for the doll until it was ready to ship. But yeah, that potential loss freaks me out a bit and always has even back when I got my very first bjd.

I've heard of but never played Angry Birds. I do know that game is pretty popular.

Thank you. The re-roots are satisfying to do when you finish, it's just the length of time it takes that can sometimes be a deterrent.

Hope you are enjoying what's left of the week!

  3. Hi Alasse,
Am loving the reroots, they both are quite stunning. I know what you mean about the repetitiveness of doing them, I used to go into auto mode when doing the Blythe dolls.

Loved the Dark Crystal too and your Kira is lovely, (I'm envious) where did you find her?

I am used to the wait for BJD's now, though I still don't like it and like you I worry. I did surprise myself this past week and paid a deposit on a non bjd vinyl doll that I will have to wait a year for, hopefully she will be painted in time for Christmas '17! Never thought I'd order a vinyl doll, let alone decide to wait that long for one. Still it gives me a year to save up to pay the balance. :)

Hope you've enjoyed all your creating this week, I've been pretty bust myself.
    Hugs,
    X

    1. I am finding re-rooting dolls to be quite relaxing even though it feels like it takes such a long time!

I got the Dark Crystal figures from Popcultcha but you can also get them from the online Zing store. They even have pop vinyls of the characters which hubby has already purchased for me for Christmas.

Ooooh a vinyl doll, this sounds interesting. What type did you end up going with if you don't mind me asking? I'm quite excited to hear your thoughts on vinyl dolls when you have one in hand.

Sadly no creating for me this week that just past. Have been sick for the past eight days with a viral infection. Still not at 100% yet but at least I feel a lot better today than I have been!

  4. You've become too great at re-rooting! It's such a delicate and time-consuming job, I really admire your patience!

The sims 4 looks good, I've recently been considering updating from Sims 2 to Sims 3.... (baby steps? LOL)

    1. Thanks for the kind words! I rather enjoy it and I love the wide range of available colours so it's nice to be able to do such fantasy colours.

Really loving Sims 4. I know it gets a lot of hate but I feel like it loads way faster than Sims 3. Still waiting on a weather expansion pack and then my game will be perfect! If you're into custom content, there's not an awful lot for the newer Sim games but I'd be curious to hear what you think of Sims 3 should you make the jump.
