It's out of my hands

In an earlier post, I talked about finding some jointed hands for my Dollshe Saint as his current ones, one of the ball sockets has broken straight through in two places and is being held in place at the moment because it's pushed up against the wrist and the hand part.

I put in an order last weekend for some Universe Doll B.J. hands as they were having a 15% off sale on them until August. I ordered through LegendDoll.

I love how very slender they are and I think they will fit my Dollshe boy perfectly. I ended up getting them in pink as my Dollshe resin seems to have a pink undertone to it. I initially ordered them in yellow but then realised it was too yellow against the DS resin and the dealer kindly let me change it. I like that they give you 24hrs to make any changes before they send your order to the doll company.

I think they'll most likely take 2-3 months as Universe Doll is a single artist company.

In other doll news, I've finally made a decision to go ahead with getting the Impldoll SGB Star body later in the year. I really love the hourglass vibe to this body and I am really loving a lot of the clothing Impldoll have for these bodies. The question is ... which head.

These are my current contenders, from left to right: Star Alberta, Idol Delia, Star Alma, Idol Azalea, Idol Octavia. Some of the Idol heads look good on the smaller Star 65 body (Azalea). I have read that Delia who is meant to be on the 70cm body actually looks good on the Star 65 body because her head is smaller. Octavia I am having a hard time finding owner photos of but I am thinking her head may be too big for the shorter body. Both Alberta and Alma are Star 65 so they were made for the shorter body anyway.

This new character is going to be Inara, the witch that saved and raised Amaryll and incidentally is who Amaryll believes died in a bandit attack. Amaryll herself buried Inara. What she doesn't know is that Inara is truly immortal, not the divine kind but the kind that literally cannot die. If she's injured severely, it may take her a full turn of a season to heal and regenerate the dead cells in her body. But she always comes back to life. It's her curse. At least that's what she believes. It's actually because of a particularly vicious virus that broke out two hundred years ago and wiped out half of the population, regardless of race or creature status. The other half were lucky enough to escape it. Only Inara managed to contract the virus and survive it. But at a cost. It changed her on a cellular level and she is able to regenerate depending on the severity of her injuries and survive any attack on her body. It might take a while but she always survives.

During those dark days, Inara lost both her husband and her child to the virus. She eventually remarried many years later but learned she could no longer bear children. The virus had also taken that ability from her. She also did not age like normal people. This is why she decided to live apart from people and honed her knowledge of magic and how to use it. She learned how to wield blood magic and infuse items with her own magic to protect herself.

I just have to decide which of these lovely heads will be my Inara.

I also mentioned that I was looking for an additional head to share my Popodoll 68cm body. I had considered the Universe Doll Higos head,  but then I was browsing, as you do, on Granado's website and came across this sculpt...

He is Granado's Dark Lord Enoch. I was sad to see he was sold out so I emailed Granado to ask if they ever re-released their heads. It turns out they do, they just don't have a set plan as to when that happens and which heads they will be offering in each period. So it's just a matter of waiting really. I can order through LegendDoll as they offer the head and Granado confirmed they had a special deal with that particular dealer to offer those heads but they did say I couldn't ask about my order directly if I went through their dealer. I would have to direct my questions through LegendDoll which I kind of figured anyway.

I do prefer to order direct as it cuts out the middle man so I will wait and hope they do an October re-release for Halloween or something. I'm not in a huge hurry so I can wait for a while. If I get too impatient, I know I can always go through their dealer. Both places offer layaway so it doesn't make too much of a difference.

I kind of fell in love at first sight with this sculpt. I'm not normally a vampire sculpt kind of person but his character just came to me when I saw the sculpt. My heart did a little jump and I knew this was THE ONE.

My world does have elves but they're the pale kind and most of them were wiped out during the virus outbreak. Only a small handful managed to escape but the elf clans were decimated by the loss. They pretty much disappeared after that. It's believed they simply died out and became extinct. No one has seen them for two hundred years.

Malek, like Inara, survived the virus. Unlike Inara, Malek actually died but the virus brought him back to life and changed him. He's no longer an elf, but something between elf and monster. He's often mistaken, if he's seen, for one of the Princes of Hell. He's also going to be Inara's love interest. The two bond over their shared immortality and the ways in which the virus has changed them and taken from them.

So I finally have a doll wish list again.

  1. The two characters are very interesting and have fascinating stories! Will Amaryll find out that Inara is alive and how would she react, I wonder! It's good that Inara is not alone, that she has Malek.
I had Alma. The Star body is beautiful, so very feminine. Mine had the medium bust, which was voluptuous, more than I had expected. I like all the heads you picked to choose from though, especially Azalea's. She was big competition when I got Alma, I had trouble choosing!
The Granado men are beautiful, I love Enoch! This company makes such amazing dolls. I hope he will be available soon again.

    1. I definitely plan for Amaryll to find out about Inara. I already have a scene in my head of their reunion. I've also been toying with the idea of finding a teen version of Amaryll to use in flashbacks with Inara to show their relationship during her youth.

That's what I'm going for too, the medium bust. The big bust looks a bit too big for me and the small is not big enough for Inara. Azalea is definitely a big contender but her face may be a little too gentle for Inara. I'm hoping Impldoll do a free head event and that way I can get two heads to share the body. Alberta is really calling to me at the moment. But so is Alma. There just aren't a lot of owner photos of either of those sculpts though.

If the Granado Vindoll bodies weren't super buff, I'd be tempted by them but the downside to vinyl is how easy they stain. Resin stains too but takes longer to do so I've found from personal experience.

I actually didn't have a character but I just wanted that Enoch head so much that I created one and made him an elf changed by the virus that took the rest of his clan. My world is a modern world but has elves and humans and other as yet not introduced races and monsters in it and a lot of those creatures were created by the virus and never existed prior to it. Who created and distributed the virus is a big part of the story too.

  2. I like the first head, Alberta. But when I read your description of Inara (amazing story) I just realized you are writing about Octavia! I just saw all the scenes you are telling about with her as Inara. :)

I think it's a wonderful idea to show her past with teenage Amaryll.

I can understand why you added another character. Enoch suits your world and your story perfectly.

    1. I think Octavia definitely has that more mature look to her that would fit with Inara however I suspect her head is going to be a lot bigger because she's designed for the taller 70cm body and not the 65cm body that I am wanting. I've been looking at her promo photos and she appears to have a very big noggin. My concern is the bobble head syndrome which is why I have so many contenders right now!

I don't seem to mind buying heads to share bodies I already have. Just means I don't have to fork out more for a body as well!

    2. That's a shame... I love this sculpt!

  3. The hands are really nice. I like when they make them with veins. Inara is a fascinating character. She got through many hardships and gained wisdom so I thought Alberta would be a good match. Hm, I'm not a fan of Granado's sculpts but a vampire... yeah, that could be interesting. :) He's very masculine. However his eyes are pretty narrow so it might be difficult to find proper eyes, ones that are clearly visible.

    1. Universe Doll's non jointed hands have veins. They are really nice but so far, LegendDoll don't seem to be selling them. I hope they do because I wouldn't mind getting some for my Popodoll body.

I have been leaning a lot towards Alberta too. Just something about the face coupled with the dark hair which will be the colour I will use for her anyway. I've been having similar thoughts about the Enoch sculpt after looking at quite a few owner photos. Luckily, he's a popular sculpt, both vampire and human versions so finding owner photos is a tad easier than looking for Alberta's! The eyes are very narrow which bugs me a little. I like to see the eyes of my dolls. People seem to have trouble finding the right size for this sculpt too which is a worry. I'm in no hurry so I am taking my time with researching that particular sculpt. The question is, how much narrow eyes will bug me long term ...

  4. Your story (well, more like Inara's story ;)) sounds fascinating, even if really sad... But the fact, that Enoch is in the similar situation, seems like a ray of hope for her - there is someone similar to her, someone who will never die and leave her alone.
I second Nana Arima - Alberta's head seems to me like Inara incarnated (the default face-up is beautiful too). And Enoch is simply gorgeous! He has such a melancholic look...

    1. I think for Inara, she's held herself back from loving another person for so long because she got tired of watching them die which I think is why she allowed herself to love Amaryll because of her immortality. So it'll be good for her to meet someone she can love romantically that won't die on her.

The face up on Alberta is indeed beautiful. She has been calling to me a lot so it will most likely be her in the end. She just has a certain look that makes me think of tragedy and loneliness.

  5. My first impulse was to say Azalea, but you know me well enough to know I always prefer redhaired girls. I think with the storyline, you alone will have to choose Alasse, as no matter what anyone suggests, the doll and the character needs to match in your mind.

I'm pleased you are so inspired lately, and you finally have a BJD wishlist again. I'm still in limbo, but that might change when I finally bring my Lunette home (the wait is killing me).
    Big hugs,
    X

    1. I'm waiting to see if Impldoll has a free head event again and that way I can order Azalea and the doll who will be Inara. That way I have a spare head who I have a supporting character for anyway.

It's nice to be able to play with my bjd again. I haven't had one of those wishlists in what seems like a long time now. I hope your Lunette doesn't make you wait much longer!

  6. I love the hands and the head Alma. But that is my liking and I think that maybe Alberta or even Octavia would suit. Then there is the question of resin match and sizes. It is hard and I can really not give any tips, because I have not bought heads and bodies separately.
I'm glad you have a BJD wishlist and the story is great!

    1. I'm taking my time with a decision as I am not in any sort of hurry at all. It's just nice to know I can add a doll later as it's not limited! The resin should match though as it's from the same company, just whether the heads for the taller dolls would look bobble headed on the smaller body.
