The One True Immortal

In my last post, I mentioned that I was tweaking my character profiles again for the bjd crew. I do this because for me, it's one of my favourite parts of this hobby. I enjoy working on my characters and my resin crew always inspire me to develop their personas more.

Today, it's all about my one true immortal, Amaryll. If you've popped over to the BJD Crew page, you will notice that most of the Immortals have a mortal name counterpart except for Amaryll who does not have a mortal name. This is because the six other immortals were once mortals with simple mortal lives until they were taken over by the essence of the Gods. Each of them had specific jobs/specialties which was how they became the avatars in which the Gods would be reborn. I'll go more into that as I introduce each of them in their own posts. For now, the Shadow Queen holds the floor...

She's called the One True Immortal because she is. She was born an immortal and did not have a mortal life previously. She is the Daughter of the Queen of Hell. Her mother was a simple mortal who was sacrificed by her village to the King of Hell. She became one of his Seven Queens. Each Winter, she was granted leave to return to the mortal world for a season to allow her womb to quicken with child at an accelerated speed and give birth. Because Hell was a place of death, a child could not be born there nor develop inside the womb. Once the child was born, the Queen returned to Hell and the child would remain in the mortal world until a certain age then they would be summoned to Hell to lead one of the many realms. If a child was born female, the child was left behind to fend for itself as the King was interested only in male children, who would later become the thirteen Princes of Hell. It was rare for a Queen to birth a female child and those that were born often died before their first birthday.

Amaryll was the first in hundreds of years. Her mother reluctantly left her with a merchant and his wife. The couple were frightened by the child's strange skin and long ears. They felt the child was cursed and left her in the nearby woods for the wolves to finish her. Amaryll was found and rescued by a Witch who lived in the heart of the dark forest. She grew up under the woman's tutelage and care. It was in her early teen years that she discovered her dark powers and truly began her journey as the Daughter of the King and Queen of Hell.

A powerful woman who can manipulate the minds and dreams of mortals, she can also lay claim to their souls. She is the lover of the Warlord. Together, the two are feared by both mortals and immortals alike.

  1. Wow, that's a great story! Such imagination is a gift. The motif of leaving the underworld reminds me of the myth of Persephone. The photo manipulations make Amaryll look gloomy and ruthless. Yes, a true dark lady.

    1. I have too many stories rolling around in my head so I have to be careful not to want to bring the characters from them all into doll form. I don't have enough space in my cabinets!!

I was actually inspired by the story of Persephone and thought I would make mine a little more purposeful because of Hell being a non-living sort of place and all. I've always had a bit of a fascination with that story in particular.

I had way too much fun doing the manipulations. Now if I could only find some horns shaped like tree branches with peeling bark...

  2. Amaryll's story is fascinating. What a life she has led so far, and her powers are really scary. The photos are awesome, and her facial expression is amazing! I love the raven on her shoulder :-).

    1. I don't think Amaryll is entirely evil otherwise she wouldn't love The Warlord as much as she does but she does tend towards the selfish side rather than the selfless side. And she can be a little scary when she's displeased or angered and don't even get me started on when she loses her temper. Someone usually ends up losing a limb or their head! Or both!
