Being Coraline

Thank you everyone for the kind words of support over my last post. I appreciate every one of them. It has been a hard week with my boy gone but we are taking it one day at a time.

In an effort to get back to routine, hubby and I decided to do our regular Thursday night shopping just to get out of the house and try and be normal for a little while. While we were out, he found the Coraline figure I had been wanting to get for a while now. This figure is incredibly hard to get your hands on as it's sold out at most places and has been for a while. So it was a surprise to find that our local Zing store had her. Hubby bought this for me to cheer me up a little.

For those who aren't aware of who Coraline is, here is a trailer to the official movie, released in 2009.

"I don't want whatever I want. Nobody does. Not really. What kind of fun would it be if I just got everything I ever wanted just like that, and it didn't mean anything? What then?"

~ Neil Gaiman, Coraline

The figure is made by a company called NECA. It feels rather fragile, the limbs are quite delicate and I found the legs actually have no feet. They end in pegs which go straight into the boots. Sadly, her left boot continually falls off so I have to be careful about that! Her face is supposed to be able to come off so you can adjust her eyes and swap out face plates between figures. However, I still haven't been able to actually pry the face plate off yet (not for a lack of trying).

She was priced at $58 AUD but personally, a figure like this, I think she should be more around the $24-30 AUD mark. Her clothes are very well made for the size and the articulation is wonderful but her left boot falling off all the time is a bit of a problem.

Overall though, I really wanted this figure and now I have her. I do like her and she does stand on her own believe it or not when you can get the balance right. But she doesn't stand alone for long so you have to be quick to take photos! Her face is painted nicely though and looks like the character. I'm pretty happy with her when all is said and done.

Not Coraline related but recently, I've been getting back into scrapbooking, specifically, scrapbook journalling. I wanted to show a page from my current journal I am working on. This one has a theme about love.

I also decided I wanted to make a custom photo album. I'm not sure if I'll turn into one for my dolls or my cats yet. I've only so far completed the front and back covers. I've yet to add the pages inside the album.

That's it for me. I've just been keeping myself busy and listening to a lot of Imagine Dragons and Daughtry.

  1. Keeping yourself busy is a good thing. Scrapbooking seems like fun and I really like your love themed page and the album cover. I've never watched that movie but Coraline looks interesting. Pity she doesn't have feet but since she poses so well I think it's not a big deal.

    1. Coraline is an interesting movie. If you're a fan of Tim Burton's work, this movie will be right up your alley.

I've been enjoying scrapbooking again. I'll be taking more photos to fill out my journal though which will be a good thing!

  2. Coraline is very cute, I'm sorry about the boot but maybe you could glue it on? Would that work, do you think? I live the raincoat, very nice.
That is a lovely start to your new scrapbook. I have a beautiful scrapbook that my daughter in law gave me for my birthday one year, I've never put anything in the pages as they are so beautiful and I didn't want to ruin them, but maybe one day.
I hope you're doing OK and that the pain is getting a little easier to bear. It'll never go away but yes, it does get a little easier to deal with :(

    1. Gluing the boot on to the peg will make undressing her impossible as the legs don't go over her boots sadly. I will just have to make do for now.

I got into scrapbooking when I starting doing the Becky Higgins Project Life albums of all the photos I had that needed a new album. It showed me a new way to do photo albums and I loved it so I transferred the same concepts to my journals.

I'm doing okay. I picked up his urn today so I'm glad he's back home, in a different form but still here now. Will always miss him though and his sister. It's a big adjustment as the house feels so very empty without them.

    1. Thanks for the kind words. I have to keep busy when I am home particularly because that's when I would spend time with him and cuddle up with him. He used to follow me around the house sometimes as I was doing the chores so it's feeling a bit empty these days without him there.

Scrapbooking is a lot of fun. I am enjoying it after a bit of a break from it!

  4. Funny you should be showing this doll Alasse, I was just speaking to my daughter about the movie on the weekend. :) She's such a great repro of the character, I'm so pleased you found her.
    Big hugs,

    1. I've been working on the softie version of Coraline for a few months now. I should have had it finished ages ago but it's tiny so the bits and pieces are fiddley so I'm only doing them when I feel inspired too. And I started doing the Monster High doll version of her too. I've been re-rooting the hair but it's taking forever so I've set it aside and got sidetracked, as you do.

    1. I've found figures tend to photograph so well a lot of the times. There's just something photogenic about them.

Scrapbooking keeps me busy and keeps the muse happy I guess. It's a lot of fun and I like that it combines creativity with pretty paper and bits of art.

  7. What a nice surprise. It's so great you found her. Maybe try to put some putty on the leg's peg? The one you use for insert bjd's eyes? It won't be permanent, but should keep the boot on.
I still haven't seen the movie. But I am planning to.
I love your albums. It's good to keep yourself busy.
