My two BMR dolls that I ordered recently arrived to me this week, about two days apart! I've been looking forward to seeing these dolls in person and they do not disappoint! The gorgeous tissue paper wrap (if you have collected the Silkstone dolls you will know what I mean) makes these dolls feel like a luxury purchase but still at a really affordable price.
I honestly haven't even come up with a name for them yet so in this post, I will call them 'Man Bun' and 'Yellow Glasses'.
Let's talk about this box. I love it so much. It has to be my favourite Barbie box and yes, these boxes I will be keeping as a collectors item. I love that it is cardboard brown with the illustrations on the front which to me gives off a sketchbook feel. I love to see the drawing designs for dolls.
Man Bun actually arrived second so I'm posting their photos a bit back to front! I really love his hoodie and thongs. The glasses are very very cool. And the little chest bag? What do you call those? Such a great little detail. I have seen people take the bun out but I rather like him like this so he will stay as he came. I like that he is easier to pose because of his flat feet but it does still take some careful fidgeting.
Okay, so I am not normally a Ken fan. I usually find their faces a bit generic but this Ken, he is one handsome doll. I really like that strong jawline and the gentle expression. I know the girls in the doll house are going to go wild for him.
I'll admit, I wasn't 100% sold on her outfit but I really loved her face so I was able to overlook that. In person, the jacket is pretty cool. I may use it for Man Bun though. The dress is not bad and I like the little hoodie at the back and it's nice and vibrant. I just don't really think it's going to suit her character so one of the others will no doubt steal it for themselves. I really adore her skin colour. It reminds me of dark chocolate. It photographs so nicely.
I think she will be quite a sassy one. I'm thinking of making her one of Syn's celebrity friends. Maybe the one responsible for helping Syn get her big break and propel her to the star she is today. She's going to be an icon in the music industry. And a fashionista so whatever she wears will sell out like hot cakes.
This was a really quick box opening for these two beautiful dolls. I did order a third so she might arrive in the next two weeks. I only really like three of the six BMR dolls so it's nice that I will have the set of three I like. The third girl was hard to find at a good price because she is quite popular and normally goes for double her price on the second hand market. But with a little google fu I was able to compare her pricing at a few different places and ended up getting her from the same place I bought the boy. Plus free postage. Can't beat that!
With everything that is going on globally at the moment, I think I really need my doll hobby to keep me sane and calm. It's my refuge in a world that's exploded in chaos.
Hope you all stay safe and healthy.
You're right, the hobby can keep us sane. People tend to panic here. Schools are closed and some products in shops are sold out.
ReplyDeleteYour BMR dolls are super cool! I'm not a fan of Ken either but that one looks great. Indeed, the kidney bag is a lovely accessory. It would be nice to have an articulated guy in the collection so I may feel tempted to buy him. As for the girl I hope the color of her body is even, unlike MtM AA, and the joints aren't partially melted.
People are panic buying here too. Our schools are still open though. It's nice to come home to a hobby that is simple enjoyment.
DeleteFrom what I could see, she seems pretty even and no melted bits. The two I got are made pretty well. I hope you will be able to get the Ken too. I haven't played as much with him to see how he works but so far, he has good moving parts. I did notice one his legs is a bit looser than the other leg but it seems to be common from what I gather from reviews. I don't find it impedes his posing though. So keep that in mind.
Yes I'm hoping that the hobby will keep me sane too, I'm going to use my time staying at home, to do some dolly sewing I think.
ReplyDeleteThese two are great, I particularly like the girl, she has a lovely face and as you say, her skin tone really is like dark chocolate!!!

I still have to go to work at the moment. We only stay home if we start to feel unwell but when I am home, it's nice to be able to do something I enjoy to bring a smile to my face again!
DeleteI really love the factory face on her and even the make up on her is really nice. There isn't a single thing I would change about her face.
Oooh, they both look so much better in real life than on the company photos! Man Bun is a very nice Ken, but I simply love Yellow Glasses! She is real beauty! Shame that BMR dolls are quite expensive here at the moment...
ReplyDeleteThey are really nice dolls. But I agree, Yellow Glasses is really breathtaking. I am a huge fan of this face sculpt. I had to look around a bit to find them at a good price but I've noticed a lot of the second hand ones are being sold for really high prices. I got mine brand new so I was lucky there was a store in Australia that sells them.
DeleteCongrats on your new arrivals Alasse, I agree with everyone, the girl looks very pretty and I also love her dark skin tone.
ReplyDeleteBig hugs,
X
Her skintone is so lovely. It really does remind me of dark chocolate for some reason and I love how it photographs.
DeleteNice dolls ❤
ReplyDeleteI think Mattel did a great job on these.
DeleteThese two look so amazing! Love the details and their outfits! Congrats! Look forward to see the third one!
ReplyDeleteI have been sewing and searching for patterns during this craziness with the virus. It really keeps me sane. Some of us in the family, has an ordinary flu - thankfully, if we can say so.
Stay safe!
I am hoping the third one arrives quickly! That one is the one I am most curious about in person. I actually stumbled on an old site that I used to use a few years back which has patterns for medieval outfits for Barbie. I'm thinking of trying them myself. I hope your family get better soon! Even the normal flu is not pleasant!
DeleteThat's so funny, I just posted my BMR dolls. :)
ReplyDeleteSo we have a bit different thoughts about the Ken doll. ;) I don't like his clothes and hairstyle. But I'm really happy I have him.
But I think exactly the same about your new lady. :) She's so beautiful. I hope I will get her some day too, because she's the third BMR doll I really want. :)
Congrats on new arrivals! We really need some small things to be happy about right now.
It is funny plus when you posted about your BMR dolls today, my third and final BMR girl arrived! How strange is that!!
DeleteI love that we will both eventually have those three BMR dolls in particular. We have good taste! Yeah, I don't mind his outfit and shoes and I really love the man bun so I will keep mine as he comes. I am looking forward to see what you do with yours though as you had mentioned changing his hairstyle.
I really feel these dolls are pretty well made given their more affordable price point compared to other Signature dolls I have seen.
