Snap and Smile

I've been taking a lot of photos over the past few days. Of different subjects. It's been interesting, challenging and frustrating. But it's also been a lot of fun. I haven't had time until recently to really enjoy taking photos for a while so it was nice to have the time to be able to do this.

We'll start with one of my most neglected dolls. She's an Obitsu 48cm doll with the Mafuyu head. It's been such a long time since I posted her on this blog. I'm going to call her Anya.

Sif and her cat, Ginger. Technically it belongs to the Barbie family but she's borrowing him for this photoshoot. Sif works with Amaryll and likes to challenge her and the rules of The Watcher Circle. She thinks Amaryll is a little uptight and isn't afraid to tell her.

Head swap - she was originally on a static fashionista body. I moved her onto a Made to Move body yesterday. Her face up is enhanced and altered slightly by me. Her name is Ingrid and she is Zoe's best friend. She is also an artist - the two met at collage. Ingrid has her own studio where she teaches young artists about the craft. Here she is out and about finding inspiration for her next piece. Yes I did put a pencil I made into her hair. She likes to be able to whip it out when she wants.

Zoe takes some time out from doing commission work for clients to squeeze in a spot of relaxation with her guitar. She is learning to play "I'm Yours." by Jason Mraz.

Deirdre, my magically talented baker of delicious patisserie that brings smiles to faces and the friendly owner of The Wayward Inn Cafe.

Side note: Updated and simplified the BJD profiles. Was way too overwhelming before and exhausting to edit when I needed to.

Gabriel, one part of the duo that is Steele & Winters PI. He's very into the Paranormal and is trying to find out why and how his sister died. Former pianist, now retired from the music scene.

Nikolas or 'Niko' as his close friends call him. He's engaged to Deirdre and is a bit of a green thumb. Likes to garden - says it helps him think. He is the second part of the Steele & Winters duo {him being the Winters part}. Has a soft spot for Remi and treats her like a kid sister.

I was pretty stoked this figure could do this pose and hold it, despite the little bit of wind rattling through the backyard during this set up. Did a bit of editing to this one as I wanted a subtle lightsaber glow effect and wanted the background to have a bit of surreal vibe going on.

Bo-Katan and Mando are one of my favourite figures. I love their outfits a lot. Hubby had some random bits and pieces he had made for his warhammer stuff so I made use of them in this photoshoot. Love how it fills out the background.

My new little people arrived and I cannot be happier. They are so well painted - more vibrant than the cheaper set I have. Given their price point, I would expect this level of quality both in sculpting and painting so I'm glad I got them even if they were a tad on the expensive side. Daughter asked if she could eat the cookie afterwards.

Just a little scale comparison for you of the little people. Sif is Tiny size (16cm).

It's been a good couple of days in photography.

  1. So great to see you enjoying your doll time Alasse. :) The photos are really good, and I enjoyed catching up with all your dolls again. The biscuit one made me smile, I don't know where you find the patience to pose those tiny men.
    Big hugs,
    X

    1. I'm getting a lot of posts out at the moment I know but that's because I won't be able to post and do photos soon (if everything goes ahead and isn't cancelled again!). At least for a month or two. Oh trust me, that biscuit one, I was ready to toss those tiny people at the window. It was frustrating and took way longer than it should. I followed tips on how other people stand them up but it didn't work so well for me. I'm glad at least the photo turned out okay. I was going to try a shoe next but we'll see how that goes. Maybe I can use a BJD shoe.

  2. Such various photos, but it's such a joy to watch them all! Love the one with the cookie :). Sif looks like a someone, who could be friends with my Myun ;). And her/not her cat looks really familiar :D.

    1. Those little cat figures are so cute. I have so many of them in the Barbie doll house, I swear the house belongs to the cats rather than the Barbies! It was great to be able to photograph some of my big dolls. I haven't in a while. I have never got around to doing a diorama or set for them.

  3. It's great your doll hobby is so versatile. Tiny people are funny and useful for many creative photos. And I love your Barbie diorama. That vase is particularly lovely. And I'm very curious about the PI duo's cases. I'm sure they'll have a lot of unusual adventures.

    1. Tiny people are frustrating to pose but worth it when the photo looks half decent. I've had a few that never made it to the blog or IG because they just didn't turn out the way I envisioned. I should photograph those vases - they are a three set I think or four ... my in-laws gave them to me. They work a treat for the Barbie size. And Niko and Gabriel - interesting team - they'll feature in a few of the Tales from New Port stories whenever I get around to them which could be a while!!

I think that the photo of Jedi is my favourite.

    1. It's nice to have some time back even if it was just for a little while. It will have to be put on hold for a little bit now but it was good to come back to it for a bit. I was amazed the Jedi could hold that pose for such a long time!

  5. The tiny figures are really fun to photograph especially with real world items to showcase the size difference.

  6. The tiny figures are really tiny, but rather amazing to see in photos. It looks like they are working on that cookie. Great photos, love the Star Wars ones.

    1. There's a bit of surrealism with the tiny figures that I absolutely adore and have fallen in love with. I want to do more of them.
